GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 7 – ATELIER – J. Lloyd + 0.5kg (56kg)
Race 1: TAB WE'RE ON Maiden Plate 1000 METRES
HILLS OF MINTO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BRUTAL MISS – Approaching the 400m, badly hampered. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have some abrasions to its off foreleg and off hindleg.
CERETTI – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice L. Martyn was fined $300 pursuant to AR131(b), for failing to ride her mount out over the final stride. When determining the matter, consideration was given to apprentice Martyn’s good record in relation to this rule, her forthright evidence and that Stewards were not satisfied that her actions had cost her mount finishing in 2nd place.
ENCHAANTED – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
EXCESS CAPITAL – Brushed the rail near the 700m. Fell approaching the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer R. Warzecha was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
SOUND THE BUGLE – Raced keen early.
KINGZOU – Began awkwardly.
MISSABEAT – Bumped the rail near the 700m and became unbalanced. Dislodged rider R. O’Sullivan approaching the 400m. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for rider R. O’Sullivan being dislodged near the 400m and EXCESS CAPITAL (J. Taylor) falling. In the incident, KINGZOU was hampered and BRUTAL MISS was badly hampered. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in its right hindleg. Trainer B. Gray was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
Following the running of this race, both riders J. Taylor and R. O’Sullivan were stood down by the QAS officials from their remaining engagements. Rider R. O’Sullivan was transported to hospital with pain in his right hand. Both riders R. O’Sullivan and J. Taylor were advised that they would require a medical clearance and to complete a satisfactory COG test prior to next riding.
Race 2: BRAD RYAN QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1400 METRES
DASHING MARS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LOTTERY LINK. Laid out rounding the home turn.
FORGING AHEAD – Slow into stride. Raced keen early. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 1000m. Held up for clear running from passing the 500m until approaching the 350m.
GOLDEN NOTRE – Approaching the 200m, became unbalanced when bumped by FORGING AHEAD.
ODE TO BEAUTY – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
RAINBOW GLITTER – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 1000m. Shifted out and away from ENJECTOR when racing greenly rounding the home turn.
VALOURI – Raced wide without cover until the 700m.
MILDURA LAD – Began awkwardly and bumped at the start. Passing the 400m, bumped with VERONA AFFAIR after being tightened for room by RAINBOW GLITTER, which shifted out and away from ENJECTOR. Eased down from the 250m. Rider M. Hellyer reported the gelding raced greenly, laid out and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative was advised the gelding would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
HANIEL – Severely hampered at the start and lost ground.
VERONA AFFAIR – Laid in near the 1000m. Bumped on the hindquarters by MILDURA LAD near the 400m and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice C. Baker reported her mount raced greenly.
PRONTO PERCY – Slow to begin. Obliged to shift wider rounding the home turn.
LOTTERY LINK – Inconvenienced at the start, bumped and carried out. Raced keen early.
Race 3: JONKER @ AQUIS STALLIONS Maiden Plate 1400 METRES
CHARMED CHOICE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped PEAK MISS.
PEAK MISS – Bumped on jumping.
SKIEDA – Change of tactics; to be further forward. Settled at the lead.
BLENHEIM GIRL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 1100m, momentarily steadied and carried in by PEAK MISS (M. Philpot), which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice M. Philpot was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
URBAN PRINCESS – Approaching the 100m, momentarily steadied, altered course and shift out to obtain clear running.
Race 4: PROST @ AQUIS STALLIONS MM COUNTRY CUP QUALIFIER BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1000 METRES
PARETO – Raced tight and bumped with TAKE A BOW approaching the winning post.
RUSSIAN MINT – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Raced wide without cover throughout.
JEMELDI – Raced keenly in the middle stages and approaching the 600m improved onto heels and steadied.
OBEROI PRINCESS – Stumbled shortly after the start.
ELECTED (IRE) – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
TAKE A BOW – Raced tight and bumped with PARETO approaching the winning post.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
Race 5: HAPPY 65TH MANDY JUPP Class 2 Handicap 1800 METRES
PROCEAN (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced and shifted in approaching the 350m to avoid the heels of WHISKY TRAIN.
WHISKY TRAIN (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 350m, improved onto the heels of DIOSA, clipped that runner’s heels and blundered, becoming severely unbalanced, almost dislodging App B. Youngberry. After considering all the evidence, Apprentice B. Youngberry was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for attempting a run when there was insufficient room to do so. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DIOSA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
DEEP DAWN – Raced in restricted room and steadied near the 100m.
WILL IT SNOW (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
INSAIN JEWEL – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GLOBAL. Raced keenly whilst being restrained early. Near the 100m, steadied when tightened for room by GLOBAL (M. Hellyer), which shifted ground when laying in under pressure. Rider M. Hellyer was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and told to stop riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances.
GLOBAL – Bumped on jumping, taken out across heels and steadied shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and near the 100m, tightened the running of INSAIN JEWEL in onto DEEP DAWN. When questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, rider M. Hellyer advised his instructions were to avoid going wide on straightening and if necessary, ride for luck. He said his mount had picked up at that point to follow WILL IT SNOW and when that gelding shifted out, he elected to come back to its inside and attempt to follow LIVALITTLE. He added GLOBAL laid in badly in the home straight, which affected his ability to ride the gelding properly and consequently also affected the horse’s efforts to finish the race off.
Race 6: TAB CALCUTTA 15 JAN BOOK NOW RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1000 METRES
EAGLES BEWARE – Bumped on jumping.
VERSION – Co-Trainers C & K. Geran were fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the race-day declaration of N. Tomizawa as the rider.
ARTOPIA – Trainer P. Webster were fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the race-day declaration of H. Shaw as the rider. Near the 900m, taken in by JUDY JETSON. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up from the home turn until near the 300m.
DARLING TAKE CARE – Near the 900m, tightened by CHAYSE’N’SCOTTY, which was taken in by ARTOPIA, which was racing keenly and awkwardly placed to the inside of JUDY JETSON (App L. Martyn), which was commencing to shift in. CHAYSE’N’SCOTTY then steadied across the heels of ARTOPIA to relieve pressure to DARLING TAKE CARE. In all the circumstances, apprentice L. Martyn was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a). Held up from the home turn until approaching the 200m.
BEACHSIDE BABE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Near the 700m, bumped and forced wider by CHAYSE’N’SCOTTY.
CHAYSE'N'SCOTTY – Bumped on jumping. Near the 900m, tightened for room and steadied across the heels of ARTOPIA. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 700m, improved onto heels, shifted out and bumped BEACHSIDE BABE.
ROCONONO – Had its tongue tie refitted on arrival at the barriers.
JUDY JETSON – Apprentice L. Martyn reported her mount laid out for the majority of the event.
Race 7: SILKS UNDER THE STARS 23 JAN FREE ENTRY Class 4 Handicap 1400 METRES
BOONDOCKS – Raced wide without cover throughout.
ROCK HARD LOVE – Held up from approaching the home turn until shifting out to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.
HEYOKA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up from approaching the home turn until near the 100m.
ATELIER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 900m, improved onto heels and steadied.
Race 8: OFFICIATING FIRST FOALS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1400 METRES
The start of this race was delayed approximately 1 minute when the tongue tie had to be refitted on IRON GRACE.
I STOLE IT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
CHAYSE 'N' LEISA – Raced keen early. Held up from the 400m until near the 300m.
SLUGWORTH – Taken wider near the 800m.
THIEF BY NIGHT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
HAYAKU – Slow to begin. Near the 700m, steadied when momentarily tightened by TREASURER.
BRUTAL LASS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m until near the 150m.
LA ROSETTA – Began awkwardly. Held up from the 400m until near the 200m.
IRON GRACE – Had its tongue tie refitted after being loaded into the barriers. Raced wide throughout.
TREASURER – Began awkwardly and tightened shortly after the start. Near the 800m, raced keenly, improved onto heels and shifted out, taking SLUGWORTH wider. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
THUNDEROUS – Began awkwardly. Held up for a run from the 400m until near the 250m.
ROCKRATA – Rider G. Cartwright reported the gelding raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R. Tyrell advised it is now the intention to send the gelding for a spell.
