Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 3 – SNITZEL MISS – J. McDonald +1kg (56kg)
Race 4 – SOUTHERN HEIRESS – J. McDonald +0.5kg (56kg)
Race 6 – STRADA VARENNA – J. McDonald +1kg (56kg)
As jockey J. Mott had transportation difficulties, he was replaced as per the Stewards summary.
RACE 1: AQUIS GOLD NUGGET QTIS 2YO COLTS AND GELDINGS 1100M
BACIAMI – Began awkwardly. Laid out over the concluding stages.
DRAGON MAGIC – Raced keenly in the early stages. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running from the 150m until shifting out near the 50m. Jockey M. Rodd reported his mount raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
EXCLUSIVE ONE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Weakened from the 500m and was eased down in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey D. Thornton advised the colt when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion may have had some breathing issues. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Wilson advised he would report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on how the colt pulls up, adding that it is his intention to apply a tongue tie to its gear. Trainer M. Wilson was advised the colt would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
WOOTTON YOU KNOW – Jockey C. Williams reported the colt didn’t feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the cold to have a slow recovery and the thumps. Trainer S. Kendrick advised it is the intention to send the colt for a spell.
WRITTEN ACLAIM – Raced keenly in the early stages.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
RACE 2: AQUIS GOLD PEARL QTIS 2YO FILLIES 1100M
BY CHOICE – Raced wide throughout. Laid out from the 500m until the entrance of the home straight. Jockey R. Bayliss advised that the filly may appreciate a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
SCARTOON – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
REMEMBRALL – Laid out in the early stages.
TIGRONI – Raced wide without cover throughout.
INHABIT – Jockey T. Pannell could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Hickmott advised it is the intention to send the filly for a spell.
IRANSOFAR – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Leaving the 500m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of REMEMBRALL for a short distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a minor laceration to the outside of its off-foreleg and inside of its near-foreleg.
RUN LIKE A GIRL – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
DOUBLE COOL – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve passing the 300m.
ADORA DJON'S – Raced in restricted room near the 250m between REMEMBRALL (B. Thompson), which rolled in marginally and DOUBLE COOL (J. McDonald), which shifted out to improve. Both jockey B. Thompson and jockey J. McDonald were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
RACE 3: CARBINE CLUB QUEENSLAND MAGIC MILLIONS MAIDEN PLATE 1400M
PIERANT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a rearward position closer to the rails.
AGRAFFE ROCKET – Slow into stride. Passing the 1100m, became awkwardly placed on heels whilst over racing. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Raced in restricted room passing the 150m between HIT THE SWITCH and PIERRO LAD (E. Brown) which shifted out under riding. Jockey E. Brown was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident. Commenced to lay out over the concluding stages.
BELLO CAVALLO – Raced wide for the majority.
DIFRONZO – Near the 1000m, when the pace of the race slackened, became awkwardly placed on heels whilst over racing.
HIT THE SWITCH – Raced wide for the majority. When being restrained near the 900m, commenced to over race with its head up.
PIERRO LAD – Raced wide for the majority. Jockey E. Brown reported his mount laid out throughout.
RUSTEMO – Held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m.
SWAG – Bumped on jumping. Over raced in the middle stages whilst being restrained when the pace of the race slackened. Raced wide for the majority.
CRASH THE PARTY – Slow to begin. Passing the 1000m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels when the pace of the race slackened. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 300m. Jockey C. Williams reported the filly was not suited by the tempo of the race, however was disappointing in finishing efforts when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
KOOLATAH QUEEN – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for a short distance rounding the home turn.
RECONCILIATE – Began awkwardly. When the pace of the race slackened passing the 1000m, commenced to over race. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight when awkwardly placed on heels of TINKLEJAZZ which shifted in marginally before being corrected.
SNITZEL MISS – Change of tactics; to be further forward if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly. Settled in a midfield position. Raced wide for the majority. Raced in restricted room passing the 700m between HIT THE SWITCH and RUSTEMO which rolled out marginally. Jockey J. McDonald reported his mount was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight and didn’t quicken as anticipated. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
TINKLEJAZZ – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and passing the 300m, was disappointed when attempting to shift BELLO CAVALLO wider on the track and as a result was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages.
YOU SEXY THING – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 1100m, became awkwardly placed on heels whilst over racing. Held up from the 500m until passing the 300m.
MONTE CARLO MISS – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:22pm when the filly became cast in the tie-up stalls. Trainer J. Field was advised that the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to accepting for a future race or trial.
RACE 4: EXPERIENCE GOLD COAST MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO FILLIES & MARES CLASS 4 PLATE 1300M
POSTER GIRL – Commenced to over race passing the 900m whilst being restrained to allow MAMUSHKA to cross. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. On return to the enclosure, it was noted that the mare had cast its off-fore plate.
MISS KIM KAR – Slow to begin.
USEAPIN – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels near the 400m and was steadied.
PIERATA'S GEM – Obliged to steady passing the 1100m to avoid the heels of POSTER GIRL (M. Harley) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. Harley was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MAMUSHKA – Momentarily inconvenienced near the 900m and had its hind quarters bumped by SOUTHERN HEIRESS which shifted in.
SCRIPTED – Raced wide without cover throughout.
ALTERMATUM – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
SOUTHERN HEIRESS – Near the 900m, shifted in and bumped MAMUSHKA.
RACE 5: SCONE RACE CLUB MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 4 PLATE 1300M
AXIUS – Bumped at the start. Jockey N. Rawiller dropped his whip near the 200m.
GORBACHEV – Leaving the 200m was obliged to alter course and shift in to avoid the heels of HELLA FAST which shifted in to obtain clear running. Jockey J. McDonald reported the gelding may appreciate a step up in distance and is better suited to tracks with more give in them. Cast its near fore plate.
I'M HEROIC – Bumped at the start.
CONCESSION – Bumped on jumping.
BLUEPINOT – Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 200m, jockey D. Lane momentarily dropped his nearside rein before gathering it a short distance later. Jockey D. Lane reported his saddle slipped on jumping, placing him at a disadvantage.
STARDEEL – Bumped at the start. Passing the 1200m, obliged to steady when tightened for room by CASH which shifted out marginally. Over raced in the early and middle stages and passing the 1000m, was inconvenienced when carried in by HELLA FAST which was taken in by ABENDER which was carried in when awkwardly placed at the heels of MAYFAIR which shifted in. Commenced to race fiercely passing the 800m. Approaching the 100m, after becoming awkwardly placed on heels, was obliged to shift out.
HELL TO PAY – Bumped on jumping. Obliged to steady after improving onto heels approaching the 700m.
HELLA FAST – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Held up for clear running near the 200m and was obliged to shift in to improve.
CASH – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room leaving the 1000m to the inside of AXIUS (N. Rawiller) which shifted in to obtain a position one off the fence. Jockey N. Rawiller was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey E. Brown reported his mount didn’t travel comfortably at any stage and raced flat. Trainer M. Hickmott was advised to report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on how the gelding pulls up.
JOPPA LANE – Raced in restricted room for a considerable distance and brushed the running rail passing the 1000m when racing tight inside HELL TO PAY which shifted in and away from GORBACHEV.
SKORPIOS ISLE – Taken in on jumping, bumped and then shortly thereafter was steadied to avoid the heels of HELLA FAST.
MAYFAIR – Raced wide for the majority.
THEE CREEK – Near the 200m, was obliged to alter course to avoid the heels of the weakening CONCESSION and when doing so shifted in to a run where there was insufficient room resulting in jockey Du Plessis having to check his mount.
HEAVENLY IMPACT – Slow to begin.
RACE 6: EXPERIENCE GOLD COAST SUNLIGHT CONSOLATION 3YO PLATE 1100M
The start of this race was delayed initially when GOLDARINE dislodged its rider and flipped over when leaving the mounting enclosure and galloped riderless for some distance before being captured. GOLDARINE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5:23pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on GOLDARINE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply:
1st MISS FREELOVE – 4c the win, 3c the place
2nd TORQUE TO BE SURE – 6c the place
3rd FORGOTTEN SPIRIT – 6c the place
Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that the filly would have a warning placed against its pre-race manners.
The start was further delayed when MANPOWER became fractious after being loaded into the barriers. The gelding was subsequently removed, underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 5:26pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MANPOWER be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply:
1st MISS FREELOVE – 3c the win, 3c the place
2nd TORQUE TO BE SURE – 4c the place
3rd FORGOTTEN SPIRIT – 4c the place
Trainer A. Campton was advised that the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
KING OF POP – Bumped shortly after the start.
TORQUE TO BE SURE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
JOHNNY – Held up rounding the home turn.
NORTHLANDER – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied after improving onto heels near the 700m.
SOLIDUDE – Raced wide throughout.
MISS FREELOVE – Jockey T. Clark dropped his whip near the 200m.
SISSTAINABLE – Near the 800m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels whilst over racing.
HIATUS – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 1000m.
STRADA VARENNA – Raced wide from the 700m.
Following the running of this race, jockey C. Collis reported he had some discomfort in his right shoulder.
RACE 7: TAB MAGIC MILLIONS THE WAVE 1800M
PORT LOCKROY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have heat stress.
ENCODER – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SLY BOOTS – Passing the winning post, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SNITZANOVA which was carried in by PORT LOCKROY which was taken in by ENCODER (J. McDonald) which shifted in before being corrected. Jockey J. McDonald was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and reminded to not allow his mounts to shift ground on pulling up.
PASIMA – Slow into stride. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.
LAST CHANCE SALOON – Slow into stride and shortly after the start was inconvenienced at the heels of DEMON DARB. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted and as to why his mount was many lengths behind the field in the early and middle stages, jockey N. Rawiller stated that shortly after the start he received some interference from DEMON DARB and was obliged to steady and come back towards the rail and in the process lost some momentum. Jockey Rawiller added that he allowed the horse to make gradual ground without hard riding and tacked on to the field near the 700m and was only several lengths off the leader approaching the home turn. He further stated that he had some difficulty obtaining clear running early in the home straight and when he shifted in to clear running passing the 200m the horse responded only moderately and peaked on its run over the concluding stages.
CARPACCIO – Raced wide without cover throughout.
TOROS – Near the 300m, whilst weakening was steadied from the heels of YOU WAHNG which shifted in.
YOU WAHNG – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey T. Berry advised it was his intention to be more positive on the mare, however didn’t anticipate the early speed shown by runners to his inside and after finding himself trapped wide in the early stages, he allowed his mount to stride forward. He added that his preference would have been to settle a pair or two back than he did. Stable representative M. Eggleston advised that he was surprised to see the mare settle that far forward but added it does have a tendency to over race in its races. He advised that it is the intention to step the mare up in distance and remove the blinkers prior to next start in an attempt for YOU WAHNG to settle.
SNITZANOVA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until approaching the 100m.
RACE 8: TAB MAGIC MILLIONS THE SYNDICATE 1100M
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey T. Berry and trainer T. Gollan, of the 2nd placed KING KAPA to view the Stewards footage of the home straight. After viewing the footage, they elected not to proceed with an objection and correct weight was given on the judge’s numbers.
PAYLINE – Began awkwardly.
GOLDEN BOOM – Cast its off-hind plate.
KING KAPA – Raced in restricted room passing the 200m until leaving the 100m between PAYLINE and SPYWIRE (E. Brown) which shifted out under riding. Jockey E. Brown was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
PRINCE OF BOOM – Raced wide throughout. Jockey B. Thompson reported his mount was inclined to hang out for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
STORM THE RAMPARTS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey N. Rawiller could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
SPYWIRE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BRERETON – Began awkwardly.
SCAMPI – Raced wide throughout. Near the 400m, steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of PAYLINE (J. Huxtable) and PRINCE OF BOOM (B. Thompson) which both shifted ground. Both jockey J. Huxtable and jockey B. Thompson were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
RACE 9: TAB MAGIC MILLIONS SUNLIGHT 3YO PLATE 1100M
NORTH ENGLAND – Over raced in the early stages.
GRAFTERBURNERS – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Held up from rounding the home turn until near the 250m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
BLITZBURG – Over raced in the early stages.
ICE KOOL – Began awkwardly and was then steadied when tightened for room shortly after the start.
SAVVY HALLIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and when passing the 100m, shifted in and had its hindquarters contacted. Hampered over the concluding stages by SYLPH which shifted out abruptly.
AKAYSHA – Raced in restricted room passing the 200m between SAVVY HALLIE which shifted in marginally and GET READY LASS which was carried out by SWORDPLAY (R. King) which shifted out under riding. Jockey R. King was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident.
FOREIGN PRESS – Raced wide without cover throughout. Trainer T. Gollan advised that it is the intention to send the filly for a spell.
SWORDPLAY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped GET READY LASS. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have heat stress.
GET READY LASS – Bumped on jumping. Raced in restricted room approaching the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have heat stress.
SYLPH – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Shifted in on the entrance to the home straight and contacted the running rail. Shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages.
KISS GOODNIGHT – Steadied shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
RACE 10: RACING QUEENSLAND MAGIC MILLIONS QTIS OPEN 1300M
YELLOW BRICK – Resaddled on arrival at the barriers. Brushed with BOSSED UP near the 100m.
CORFE CASTLE – Raced in restricted room and was steadied near the 1000m when tight inside HOOT ‘N’ HOLLER which shifted in and away from SAFEWORK (J. Bayliss) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey J. Bayliss was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
READY TO SCHIPP – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported his mount slipped at the start.
BOOMTOWN BOSS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide without cover throughout.
JOHN RAMBO – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and passing the 200m, was obliged to shift out to improve and in doing so, raced in restricted room until passing the 100m.
BOSSED UP – Brushed with YELLOW BRICK near the 100m.
