GENERAL

As Jockey A. Jones was injured and not riding at today’s meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Jockey Jones was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 4 – PIPPIE BEACH – J. McDonald +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 4 – CHEVAL CHIC – D. Bates +1kg (55kg)
Race 8 – MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO – R. Maloney +0.5kg (56kg)
 
The track was upgraded to a good 4 at 11:30am.
 
RACE 1:SOCIAL EVENT HIRE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1400M
 
PASIMA – As Apprentice C. Keatings had transportation difficulties, she was replaced by Apprentice C. Bellamy. Slow to begin.

DEEP RESPECT – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. Dunn was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.

SCARLET PRINCE – Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Apprentice R. Thorburn reported the gelding was inclined to lay out over the final 200m.
 
DAGGERS – Began awkwardly.
 
EYE OF THE EAGLE – Slow into stride. Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room to the inside of YOSHINO which laid in and away from SEVEN’S (R. Maloney) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Maloney was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until near the 200m. Passing the 150m, shifted in to improve and raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
YOSHINO – Obliged to steady near the 600m after improving onto the heels of OCEAN ALPS which was eased to allow SEVEN’S to cross and take up a position outside the lead. Raced in restricted room for a short distance inside the final 100m whilst weakening.
 
NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Slow into stride.
 
OCEAN ALPS – Eased near the 600m. Raced in restricted for a short distance passing the 250m.
 
PIPISTRELLE – Stewards acceded to the late change of gear for the mare to race in a lugging bit instead of a butterfly bit. Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
LARRIKIN ROGUE – Began awkwardly.
 
SEVEN'S (IRE) – Raced wide without cover until the 700m.
 
BLANTONS RUN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


RACE 2:GOLD COAST CITY COUNCIL BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP 1200M

SAILOR'S SECRET – Momentarily inconvenienced leaving the 400m. Again, leaving the 300m was inconvenienced. Cast its off-fore plate.
 
SLIPPIN' JIMMY – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
WARBY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BUNDELLA – Apprentice C. Bellamy advised the gelding was disappointing and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised it is the intention to send the gelding for a spell. Nonetheless, Trainer Gollan was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
CASPERNOVA – Held up approaching and rounding the home. Near the 350m, improved onto the heels of the weakening BUNDELLA and was obliged to shift in.
 
SOOTHSAYER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
SWISS EXILE – Placed in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 400m when SOOTHSAYER shifted out before being corrected. On straightening passing the 350m, hampered and carried out onto SAILOR’S SECRET by SOOTHSAYER (M. Rodd) which shifted out in an attempt to improve. Jockey M. Rodd was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
ROYAL COMMODORE – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
STREET CHASE – Raced wide without cover throughout.


RACE 3:TAB KEN RUSSELL MEMORIAL CLASSIC 1200M

SILKEN SALUTE (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 800m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Raced in restricted room near the 200m when UNLOADING shifted in before being corrected.

UNLOADING – Shifted out at the start and bumped MACEDON MISSION.
 
BERZELIUS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Obliged to alter course and shift out near the 150m to obtain clear running.
 
DUKE OF ALBEMARLE – Jockey J. Melham reported the gelding became worked up pre-race which she believes was detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida advised he would report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on how the gelding pulls up.
 
MACEDON MISSION – Bumped on jumping.

RACE 4:ATTWOOD MARSHALL LAWYERS SILK STOCKING 1400M

ZASZOU – Began awkwardly. Near the 1300m, raced in restricted room and was steadied inside TORABELLA which was taken in by DIRTY DANCING (R. Dolan) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey R. Dolan was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Improved onto heels approaching the 1200m and was steadied.
 
PIPPIE BEACH – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. McDonald advised the mare ran well and may appreciate a step up in distance.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SUNSET DREAMING – Jockey D. Moor advised the mare didn’t travel comfortably and proved disappointing.
 
DIRTY DANCING – Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
 
TEN DEEP (GB) – Apprentice E. Lang advised the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Gollan advised he would report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on his intentions going forward with the preparation.
 
BENGAL DIAMOND – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
AMPLIFY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
SWELTERING – Slow to begin.


RACE 5:MOËT & CHANDON GOLD COAST BRACELET 1800M

SPICY LU – Apprentice C. Keatings reported the filly was disappointing when asked for an effort from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer N. Olive reported he was disappointed in the filly’s performance, adding that he would report back to Stewards in the subsequent days on his intentions going forward with the preparation.
 
NIGHTLINE (NZ) – Held up on the entrance to the home straight. Near the 250m, shifted out to improve and bumped SHEEZA DIVA.
 
ZULEIKA – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 1500m.
 
FIREBALL MISS – Change of tactics; to be further forward from the good barrier. Slow to begin. Settled in a midfield position. Bumped near the 250m.
 
SATONO INVADER (NZ) – Jockey R. Maloney reported the filly felt uncomfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Lees was advised that the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
SHORTCUT – Obliged to alter course near the 200m.
 
SHEEZA DIVA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 250m, bumped and became unbalanced when NIGHTLINE (M. Du Plessis) shifted out to improve. Jockey M. Du Plessis was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
ERIN JO (NZ) – Raced in restricted room for some distance near the 1200m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.
 
BELLA WAHINE – Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start, resulting in Jockey J. McDonald’s right foot making contact with the barrier partition. Began very awkwardly and shifted in.


RACE 6:XXXX BAT OUT OF HELL 1000M
 
HI DUBAI – Declared a late scratching at 1:20pm due to the track upgrade. Trainer C. Maher was advised the mare will not be permitted to start on tracks rated a good 4 or firmer.

GOLDEN BOOM – Shifted in at the start and bumped UNFLINCHING. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Jockey R. Maloney reported his mount failed to respond when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Cast its near-fore plate.

KING KAPA – Bumped on jumping, becoming severely unbalanced. Cast its near-fore plate.
 
UNFLINCHING – Bumped on jumping.
 
TONKIN – Bumped on multiple occasions at the start, became unbalanced and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages. Improved onto heels near the 700m, shifted out, taking OUTWEIGHED wider. Improved onto the heels of GOLDEN BOOM near the 100m and was obliged to shift in. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported the mare over raced in the early stages, proving very difficult to settle. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-Trainer A. Freedman was asked to report back on the condition of TONKIN in the subsequent days.
 
MANOLO BLING – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up on entering the home straight. Obliged to alter course near the 300m to obtain clear running.
 
OUTWEIGHED – Taken out by TONKIN near the 700m.


RACE 7:TAB A.D. HOLLINDALE STAKES 1800M

KNIGHT'S CHOICE – Bumped on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BIRDMAN (IRE) – Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn.
 
GOLDEN PATH (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped KNIGHT’S CHOICE.
 
ZOOLOGY (GB) – Knuckled on jumping and lost ground.
 
MISS JOELENE – Jockey T. Berry reported the mare wasn’t suited to today’s quick tempo in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  


RACE 8:BRANDONS ELECTRICAL GOLD COAST GUINEAS 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when SYLPH became fractious in the barriers, reared and dislodged Jockey T. Berry. Subsequently, the filly was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.         

BESKAR – Jockey R. Maloney reported the gelding hung in badly throughout event and proved difficult to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-Trainer A. Freedman was advised the gelding will be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.

BEADMAN – Change of tactics; to be ridden more conservatively. Bumped on jumping. Settled in a midfield position. Raced wide with cover throughout.  Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 900m.
 
AERODROME – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
DANCE GAVIN DANCE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Leaving the 600m, raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
SUNRAYS – Jockey B. Thompson reported the filly failed to let down when placed under pressure and would derive benefit from the first up performance.
 
SYLPH – Began awkwardly. Jockey T. Berry reported his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities other than some irritation to its nearside eye.
 
MILITARY TYCOON – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 

RACE 9:AUSTRALIAN TURF CLUB TROPHY 1200M

HIDDEN WEALTH – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
 
METALART – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Improved close to heels over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested to the finish line.
 
MIDNIGHT IN TOKYO – Held up rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 150m.
 
TUNED – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
NAVYONTHEHIGHWAY – Near the 500m, was awkwardly placed and had to be steadied when OUROBOROS rolled out.
 
REDFORD – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
OUROBOROS – Jockey T. Marshall reported the gelding was disappointing in its finishing efforts. Trainer M. Hoysted was asked to report back on the condition of OUROBOROS in the subsequent days.
