GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 1 – J. Guthmann-Chester +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Race 4 – S. Cormack +1kg (55kg)
Race 4 – A. Thompson +0.5kg (56kg)
Race 7 – Y. Lewis +1kg (56kg)
Race 7 – B. Lerena +1kg (56.5kg)
 
 
RACE 1:TAB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000M

ACACIA RIDGE (NZ) – Raced wide early.

CATFISH – Laid in during the middle stages when close to the heels of TREV and brushed the rail near the 600m. Raced greenly in the home straight.

METAL BOSS – Slow into stride.
 
PROFIT IN PARADISE – Passing the 900m, got its head up when being steadied from the heels of TREV. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider D. Peisley could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TREV – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer K. Zahmel was advised the colt will require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
BROOKE'S BLOOMS – Began awkwardly and bumped on the hindquarters. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
HAIL AND HARTY – Began awkwardly, shifted in, bumped the hindquarters of BROOKE’S BLOOMS and lost ground.
 
INCH BY INCH – Raced greenly in the early and middle stages.
 
PORTNOVA – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start.
 
 
RACE 2:NOVOTEL BRISBANE AIRPORT HOTEL QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000M

The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when ZITHER MACHINE proved difficult to load. Co-Trainer E. Vincent was advised a warning would be placed on the filly for being difficult to load.
 
BY FORCE – Bumped on jumping. For a short distance approaching the 200m was held up for a run.

HARRY'S MODE – Shortly after the start, raced in restricted room between PRESTIGE AUSTRIA and HOT IMAGE. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 100m, was crowded for room when ZITHER MACHINE shifted in, before being corrected.
 
ZOUS A CHANCE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HOT IMAGE – When making ground over the concluding stages, was held up and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
 
KARAI MARTINI – Bumped on jumping. Near the 800m, carried out towards the heels of FLYING SCARLETT by ZOUS A CHANCE, which rolled out. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.


RACE 3:BEDSHED GOLD COAST QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1708M

LYNEHAM – Approaching the 100m was brushed by KRUMAC, which shifted out slightly under pressure.

NORTY FORTY – Rider K. Yoshida advised the filly may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer K. Kemp confirmed the filly will now be spelled.
 
AMAZIGH TORQUE – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keen early.
 
FLYING PHOENIX – Began awkwardly and was then bumped by AMAZIGH TORQUE.
 

RACE 4:PULLMAN BRISBANE AIRPORT HOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP   1800M
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes, due to several runners being somewhat difficult to load.    
KOJAK (NZ) – Shortly after the start, steadied when tightened between BE THY NAME and BOMB PERIGNON, which shifted out slightly.
 
BE THY NAME – Slow to muster early speed.
 
KOOJAN (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced for an extended period.
 
BOMB PERIGNON – Raced keen early.
 
STEPLIKA LION – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously early.
 
HURDWICK STONE (NZ) – Lost its footing behind on leaving the gates and began awkwardly.
 
VALOUR VICTORIOUS – Weakened from the 300m and eased down passing the 100m.
 
THE HOPESTAR – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice M. Apel advised the mare felt uncomfortable in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
ROTATE – After beginning well, settled in a more forward position. Passing the 1500m, steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of BILL’S ANGEL(F. Larson), which shifted in when not clear. Rider F. Larson was advised to exercise more care.
 
Following the running of this race, apprentice C. Bellamy was examined by QAS officials after experiencing some pain in her right wrist and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.

 
RACE 5:HAPPY 70TH MICHELE CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1800M
 
EASY LOVE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

SAN JOSE BOY – When questioned regarding settling in a rearward position, rider B. Lerena reported it wasn’t his intention to be as far back but when the gelding didn’t begin the best, he elected to get his mount to settle in a rhythm and found himself at the rear passing the 1100m. He added at the 900m the gelding picked up the bit but then approaching the home turn, failed to work into the race and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
BORN TO BE ALIVE – App M. Apel dropped her whip near the 300m.


RACE 6:BRISBANE AIRPORT CONFERENCE CENTRE MAIDEN HANDICAP         1300M

SENSE OF DUTY – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly.
 
INDAMOUSE – Rider R. Wiggins reported his mount hung out throughout, particularly approaching and rounding the 800m turn. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised the gelding would be required to Officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
TRANGO TOWERS – Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported his mount raced ungenerously with blinkers on.
 
BRASH MAGIC – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.
 
DIVIL A BIT – Half reared when the gates opened and lost ground. Held up for clear running from the 400m until near the 200m.
 
MEANER THAN MOST – Trainer P. Butterworth was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(1) for presenting the gelding with the incorrect gear. Shortly after the start, steadied and shifted in from the wide gate to obtain a rearward position.
 
HANSAGLORY – Raced wide throughout. Rider A. Thompson reported the gelding, which was first up, was unable to find cover and consequently raced wide for majority of the event. He added that HANSAGLORY will take benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CAPTIVATE LEGEND – As rider B. Wheeler was overweight, he was replaced by rider T. Brooker. Subsequently, rider B. Wheeler was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when found to be overweight.
 
BASSETT'S CHOICE – Raced keen early. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
Following the running of this race, Apprentice C. Bellamy reported that as her right wrist was still causing considerable pain, she did not believe she was fit to ride and consequently was stood down from her remaining engagements. Apprentice Bellamy was advised she requires a medical clearance prior to next riding.

 
RACE 7:LINDA DAFFY'S MERMAID WATERS TAB CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000M
 
DUSHENKA – Shortly after the start, steadied when racing in restricted room. Hung out under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride out. Trainer A. Campton was advised a warning would be placed on the filly.
 
DIALIDAE – Stumbled on leaving the gates and lost ground.
 
THE ROOKIE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

Following the running of this race, rider B. Wheeler was examined by QAS officials, found to be dehydrated and stood down from his remaining engagements at Toowoomba race meeting.

RACE 8:POCO VINO RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1800M

BOW TIE AFFAIR – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

SEA WARNING – Rider B. Lerena reported the gelding had been reluctant to respond to riding previously to take up a forward position, and for this reason he pressured his mount passing the 1400m to establish a lead but thereafter travelled an even tempo whilst well ahead of the remainder of the field.
 
WEEKEND ARTIST – Left the crossing at the 1500m awkwardly and dipped.
 
CAPTAIN INSANO – Bumped near the 400m.
 
JOTOPELI – Rider D. Turner reported the gelding choked down. He added the stable removed the tongue tie from its previous start, which in his view, contributed to the horse choking down. Bumped near 400m.
 
BENFICA LASS – Dipped leaving the crossing at the 1500m.
 
PRESTIGE ICE – Held up for a run from the 450m until passing the 400m and when shifting out, bumped JOTOPELI, which was taken out and bumped CAPTAIN INSANO, which in turn shifted out towards WEEKEND ARTIST, which then shifted out and inconvenienced CONTRERAS. A. Thompson, rider of PRESTIGE ICE, was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a).
 
YOU THINK SO – Held up from the 250m until passing the 150m.
 
UNIQUE ELLE – Late withdrawal at 3:30pm as no suitable rider was available.
 
CONTRERAS – Inconvenienced near the 400m.


RACE 9:RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP NOW BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400M

BOVIDAE – As no apprentice was available, Stewards permitted T. Brooker to ride the gelding. Passing the 500m, steadied when racing tight between GOLDEN MIKKI and NATIONAL INTEREST, which shifted out slightly.
 
GOLDEN MIKKI – Rider J. Lloyd was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. Stewards were satisfied his lack of action did not affect the result of the race.
 
LAUNCHER – Near the 900m, got its head up when racing tight to the inside of BRUCKHEIMER, which was tight to the inside of ARCHIE MAXIMUS.
 
NATIONAL INTEREST – Co-Trainer G. Heinrich was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly. Held up from the 400m until approaching the 300m and when shifting out to improve hampered TOOLATEMATE.
 
TOOLATEMATE – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Hampered near the 300m.
 
CIGAR MAN – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Near the 100m, momentarily tightened by HIDDEN FUTURE, which shifted in before being corrected.
 
SEASONS OF MIST – Trainer R. Tyrell was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider by the prescribed time. Raced wide without cover for the majority. Hampered and steadied near the 300m when KEIKO SAY (G. Spokes) shifted out when not clear. Apprentice G. Spokes was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in this incident.
 
KEIKO SAY – When questioned regarding the tactics, Apprentice G. Spokes advised from the wide barrier he was asked to find cover with the hope the mare would finish the race off better. Trainer J. Smerdon confirmed the instructions. He was reminded of his obligations to advise of any proposed change of tactics(AR100(1)(a)).
 
HIDDEN FUTURE – Apprentice J. Newman reported she was required to make use of her mount early to cross, however; the filly didn’t let down when placed under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
