GENERAL
Trainer A. Chau was fined $200 pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to withdraw dual acceptor TRIBBIANI (NZ) (Race 4) by the prescribed time.
Upon arrival on course, Apprentice C. Lowe was assessed by QAS officials after being dislodged at another venue.
RACE 1: ARCHERS THE STRATA PROFESSIONALS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 M
BOLLINGER MISS – Slow to begin.
IN GREAT SPIRIT – Raced keen early.
ICEWATER – Raced keen early.
RACE 2: HOSPITALITY & STRATA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
Correct weight was delayed, to allow J. Lloyd, rider of second placegetter YATTAZOU, to view the Stewards footage of the home straight. After doing so, he elected not to pursue the matter further and correct weight was declared.
PROPHET OF DESTINY – As Apprentice C. Bellamy was unable to arrive on-course in time due to transport difficulties, she was replaced by Apprentice R. Thorburn on PROPHET OF DESTINY. Shortly after the start, raced in restricted room. Passing the 400m, laid out towards the heels of MISS DECHAMBEAU, steadied, and shifted in to obtain clear running. Approaching the winning post, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BEST EAGLE and consequently was not ridden to the end of the race.
BEST EAGLE – Rider B. Lerena reported his mount felt uncomfortable in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right fore-leg. Trainer B. Hull was advised BEST EAGLE would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
TAKE SHELTER – As rider B. Wheeler was unable to arrive on-course in time due to transport difficulties, he was replaced by A. Keeley on TAKE SHELTER. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after working hard in its preliminary enroute to the barriers. Raced wide throughout. Approaching and rounding the home turn, laid out.
AFRICAN EVENING – Slow to muster early speed. Trainer N. Beck stated the filly at its first start, received interference at the start and lost ground, raced keen early and green throughout and clearly benefited from that experience. He said, with the filly being up in distance, he was expecting a forward showing, however; was somewhat surprised with the win.
MISS DECHAMBEAU – Near the 300m, checked when tightened onto the hindquarters of SUCCESSISMAGIC, by BE AN ANGEL, which shifted out abruptly away from YATTAZOU. In the incident, both SUCCESSISMAGIC and BE AN ANGEL became unbalanced.
YATTAZOU – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SUCCESSISMAGIC – Raced three wide without cover for the majority. Became unbalanced near the 300m.
AKKU – Rider S. Sheargold reported his mount hung out from 700m.
BE AN ANGEL – Became unbalanced near the 300m.
Rider K. Zechner (AFRICAN EVENING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 300m whilst riding along, he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of YATTAZOU, taking that horse out and off its rightful running, being placed on heels for several strides and hampered. K. Zechner’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six (6) days, commencing midnight 18th July, concluding midnight 24th July 2026. In assessing penalty, account was taken of the QRIC Careless Riding Guidelines and that K Zechner had an excellent record under this rule, having incurred only two suspensions since November 2022.
RACE 3: GRACE LAWYERS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1800 M
Correct weight was delayed to allow K. Zechner, rider of third placegetter NOTES (NZ) to view the Stewards footage of the home straight. After doing so, he elected not to pursue the matter further and correct weight was declared.
WATERMELON – Blundered at the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
LOYALTY COUNTS – Re-saddled upon arrival to the barriers. Shifted out at the start and bumped OLD SONG. Raced wide in the early stages, before being allowed to stride and take the lead near the 1100m. Rider B. Lerena reported his saddle shifted forward shortly after the start before coming back underneath him near the 1100m.
O'CALDINO – Began awkwardly.
OLD SONG – Bumped at the start.
AIMA SUN – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
RACE 4: HUM ENERGY OPEN HANDICAP 1400 M
EDITED BY – Carried wider approaching and rounding the home turn by ZAMBEZI KHAN (NZ). Rider B. Lerena was unable to offer an explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
LIVING FREE – For a short distance passing the 500m, was held up for clear running.
ZAMBEZI KHAN (NZ) – For a short distance passing the 1000m, was awkwardly placed on the heels of BADGERS NUTS (NZ).
IKASARA – Began awkwardly. In the middle stages, raced keenly.
RACE 5: ARCHERS THE STRATA PROFESSIONALS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1000 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately two (2) minutes due to the horses arriving late at the barriers.
HE'S A SAINT (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
COINCIDE – Approaching the 600m, steadied from the heels of ROUGE ANGEL, which rolled out marginally. Apprentice J. Franklin reported he was asked from the wide gate to find cover just behind the lead. Trainer B. Gentle confirmed the instructions, stating with the good speed in the race and from the wide gate, he did not think the gelding would be able to obtain a leading position. He added COINCIDE would continue to race on the pace where possible.
CHAYSE'N'SCOTTY – Slow to begin.
FAR BEYOND – Slow to begin.
SOUTHAMPTON NICCO – Crowded on leaving the gates.
ROUGE ANGEL – Tardy to begin.
RUSSIAN PINS – Began awkwardly.
RACE 6: RIVERS INSURANCE BROKERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – When under pressure from the 200m, laid in.
COUNT NICHOLAS – Began awkwardly.
I AM VOODOO – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m, steadied when racing tight to the inside of HARBOUR GOLD.
WANJINA ROSE – Slow to begin. Apprentice C. Bellamy stated the mare was not suited to the firmer track surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
EXUBERANCE (NZ) – Passing the 50m, was unable to obtain clear running and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
MISS FORCE – Bumped at the start by STOINKA, which began awkwardly.
STOINKA – Began awkwardly. Passing the 500m, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of I AM VOODOO (J. Lloyd), which was shifting out to improve. Rider J. Lloyd was advised to exercise greater care.
RACE 7: STRATA COMPLIANCE SOLUTIONS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M
The start of this race was effected approximately fifteen (15) seconds earlier than the advertised starting time. The matter was brought to the attention of the Starter.
SEAMS LOGICAL – Slow to begin. Passing the 700m, laid in onto the rail for several strides and became badly unbalanced.
AMERICAN CONQUEST – Rider K. Zechner reported the gelding did not back up from its recent run on 4 July 2026. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer N. Beck advised the gelding would now be spelled.
MISHANI EXTREME – Began awkwardly. Over-raced with its head up in the early and middle stages. Apprentice O. Kendal was fined $100 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for the use of the whip on four consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.
ZOUSAIN'S CHOICE – Slow to begin. Approaching the 500m, held up for clear running when awkwardly placed between runners.
CAT CALL – After the running of this race, it was noted the gelding had lost its off-hind plate.
RACE 8: NDUSTRY AWARDS 13 AUGUST CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200 M
STANISLAUS – Shifted out at the start. Passing the 1100m, steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ARALETTA, when racing tight to the inside of DESTINYS SUMMIT. After the running of this race, was noted to have lost the near fore plate
WINCHMAN – Raced keenly with its head up early.
TRIBBIANI (NZ) – Trainer A. Chau was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
ARALETTA – Bumped when racing tight approaching the 200m.
DESTINYS SUMMIT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover early. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
MA'S EPIC – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m, eased when awkwardly placed to the inside of ARALETTA, which was racing keenly and was being steadied from the heels of ROCK HARD LOVE, which was steadying in front. Bumped when racing tight approaching the 200m.
