STRIKE ZONE- Little slow to begin. Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding and performance of the gelding. App S Chan stated he was instructed to ride the horse back in the field as he had at its previous start, place the horse under riding from the 600 metres and it would respond well. Trainer B Dixon confirmed these instructions, however was somewhat critical in that the horse was not ridden with more vigour and placed under pressure early than it had been. Mr Dixon stated he would look to step the horse up in distance if possible.
Stewards were of the opinion that App Chan had erred in not placing the horse under pressure from approximately the 800 metres in an attempt to hold a position or race closer to the rear of the field. Stewards did not believe this error had breached the Rules and the matter was referred to Mr Scriven for further mentoring of Apprentice Chan.

DARK MATTER- Little slow to begin. Jockey fined $100 under AR 145 for returning to scale in excess of half kilogram over his allotted weight.
