Race 1: Easter Racing Carnival Maiden Plate- 850 metres
ALL BAR MAX- Jumped awkwardly outwards, raced wide throughout, hung out slightly on home turn. Stewards will interview rider in relation to use of the whip.
MISS SAPPY- Near the 600 metres, shifted outwards. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed it had been galloped on its near hind leg. Trainer L Keirnan reported the filly would now be freshened up prior to its next race start.
Race 2: Biralee Kindergarten Class B Handicap- 1194 metres
EXCLUSIVE KITTY- When Jockey A Butler was to be overweight, J. Stephens was substituted as the rider. Jockey Butler was fined $100 under AR 120 (b). Shortly after the start, commenced to buck and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer T Button was advised the mare would be required to barrier trial over 900m in raceday gear prior to its next race start.
RESTRAINING ORDER- Bounded on jumping and lost some ground.
Race 3: Strong Images Class 4 Handicap- 1000 metres
NORTHERN SHIFT- When placed in the barriers, broke through, was restrained, underwent a veterinary inspection and cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.
SAINT STAR- Subsequent to another horse breaking through the barriers, was fractious and broke through riderless. On being captured, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 2.50pm. All bets to be returned and winning bets to paid less deductions of 0 cents the win and 2 cents the place on the FINAL CHAPTER and 3 cents the place FRAHA.
DAILY PLANET- Slow into stride, raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Sue Laurniy Memorial Open Handicap- 1000 metres
BLAZE TO FORTUNE- Shortly after the start, dipped.
BASE JUMP- Raced wide throughout.
SNITZEM- A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Jess Hill BM 60 Handicap- 1517 metres
STRIKE ZONE- Little slow to begin. Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding and performance of the gelding. App S Chan stated he was instructed to ride the horse back in the field as he had at its previous start, place the horse under riding from the 600 metres and it would respond well. Trainer B Dixon confirmed these instructions, however was somewhat critical in that the horse was not ridden with more vigour and placed under pressure early than it had been. Mr Dixon stated he would look to step the horse up in distance if possible.
Stewards were of the opinion that App Chan had erred in not placing the horse under pressure from approximately the 800 metres in an attempt to hold a position or race closer to the rear of the field. Stewards did not believe this error had breached the Rules and the matter was referred to Mr Scriven for further mentoring of Apprentice Chan.
DARK MATTER- Little slow to begin. Jockey fined $100 under AR 145 for returning to scale in excess of half kilogram over his allotted weight.
WONGARANDA- Raced wide throughout.
