Race 1: Diceys BM 50 Handicap- 1517 metres
GO AS YOU PLEASE- Raced three wide throughout.
DUAN THEO- Rider stated gelding travelled well early when placed behind the leaders. However, failed to travel well for the remainder and raced at the rear of the field.
CHARSON’S GIFT- Rider stated the gelding travelled well until near the 800 metres, however when placed under pressure had failed to run on.
Race 2: Carlton Mid Class 3 Plate- 1194 metres
USURPER- Broke down near the 800 metres. A veterinary inspection revealed the mare had fractured its near fore semasoid. The horse was subsequently euthanised. As the vet was required to attend to this incident, a swab sample was not obtained from winner of Race 1.
MIDNIGHT CURLEW- Jumped out onto another runner.
KING KAHN- Contacted by another runner at the start.
Race 3: Roderick Water Class B Handicap- 1000 metres
Prior to correct weight, Jockey M Barnham viewed the photo finish for third. After doing so, he was satisfied as to the judge’s placings.
LITTLE PADDY- Harmlessly dislodged the rider behind the barrier, galloped riderless, broke through a running rail in the chute and on being captured was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards. Prior to correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on LITTLE PADDY be refunded and winning bets subject to the following deductions;
ZALATED 0 cents Win, 7 cents place
SOUL SERENADE- 7 cents place
RUN ‘EM RAGGED- 5 cents place
A warning will be placed on LITTLE PADDY for its pre-race manners.
SONADOR ROSE- When questioned regarding the performance, rider stated mare was positioned and travelling well until the home turn, however received contact when a runner rolled in, and failed to run on. Jockey Coome was reminded his mounts out to the end of the race.
ZALATED- Trainer C Garland reported that he was of the opinion that the gelding may have choked down in its two previous starts. Acting on this, he reapplied the tongue tie for this race and this contributed to its improved performance.
Race 4: Biralee QTIS Maiden Plate- 850 metres
The explanations for the late rider declarations for DRAGONMOSS and ACCEPTING were accepted.
FLYING FERO- Began awkwardly and lost some ground.
PRINCESS RHYTHM- Jockey M Barnham was permitted to ride one kilogram overweight when no other riders were available. Jockey Barnham was fined $100 (AR 120(b))
Race 5: Barnes Electrical Open Handicap- 850 metres
No racing incidents.
