GENERAL
 
As Jockey A. Butler was indisposed, stewards permitted changes as per the steward’s race day summary.
 
 
Race 1: FIND US ON FACEBOOK BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 850 metres
 
HAYYLER’S TARY – Passing the 400m became awkwardly placed on the heels of KRISPY KEV.
 
BIG JAKE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not competing in the past twelve months and was passed fit to start.
 
NATURAL EMPEROR – Laid out rounding the home turn and raced wide throughout.
 
ARARRAC – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.
 
GOSSIAUX – Hampered on jumping away and was slow as a result. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: WELCOME GOLD COAST TURF CLUB BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1000 metres
 
STUMPED – Rider reported that the gelding failed to handle the sand surface.
 
IN WAVES (NZ) – Rider reported that the gelding failed to handle the sand surface.
 
ROCKSHORE – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
SETLIN SAGE – Apprentice A Donald was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on eight occasions prior to the 100m, three more than permitted. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that this was Apprentice Donald’s sixth breach of this rule in the past twelve months.
 
Race 3: AG EQUIP QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
EMPEROR OF LIGHT – Slow to begin.
 
HE DID IT – Rider reported that her mount resented the kick back and failed to travel at any stage of the event.
 
MONEY TRAVELS – Slow to begin.
 
VOK’S THE ONE – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rider could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
BETTER CHILL’EM – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Race 4: SAVOUR THE FLAVOUR BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1194 metres
 
KRAVITZ – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
CRISSCROSS – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
SIDETRIP – Late scratching at 7.50am due to no available rider.
 
ROCKY POET – Dipped on a number of occasions shortly after jumping away.
 
ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow to begin.
 
Race 5: MELBOURNE CUP DAY @ GTC BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1517 metres
 
YES NO MAYBE SO – Rider A Spinks was cautioned regarding his use of the whip when out of contention.
 
MR MAHARAJ –Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion.
