GENERAL
Following a stable inspection trainer Ian Prizeman pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR104(1) for failing to keep up to date treatment records required under the rule. Mr Prizeman was subsequently fined $200.
Stewards conducted random float and vehicle inspections with no concerns identified.
Race 1: CRAIGS BAKERY BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (850 METRES)
CLOCKS TICKING – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.Stewards intend to inquire into the circumstances regarding CLOCKS TICKING being required to return from the on-course stabling complex to the tie up stalls, following the running of race 2, in order for a veterinary examination to be conducted which revealed the presence of blood in both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer D Schultz was advised that CLOCKS TICKING would be stood under the provisions of AR79(4).
HEAVENLY LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Improved into restricted room over the concluding stages.
INTENSE STEEL – Blundered on jumping and was slow to begin as a result. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight.
EQUITABLE – Raced wide throughout.
FRIDAY’S JET – Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY AMBER SMITH BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1194 METRES)
PHIL UP – Declared a late scratching at 8:02am due to no available rider.
AWESOME SPIRIT – Slow into stride. Apprentice T Orr was reminded of his obligations in regard to whip use when out of contention.
BLAME THE BUBBLES – Raced keenly in the early stages.
LITTLE FREDDY – Began awkwardly.
SPITZBERG – Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Switched inwards near the 50m to maintain clear racing room.
DAUNTING INSTINCT – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
COSMIC PROPORTIONS – Raced middle stages. Shifted wider near the 500m to improve and raced wide thereafter. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: MIST PLUMBING AND GAS QTIS Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
EXTREMELY PERFECT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the middle stages. When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance apprentice T Orr stated that the gelding had travelled well in the early stages however when asked for an effort at the 400m EXTREMELY PERFECT failed to respond. He further added that it was the geldings first start on a sand track which may not have been beneficial to EXTREMELY PERFECT’s performance.
VIKING SUN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection after not racing for an extended period of time and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
POWER MAIDEN – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid inwards when under pressure in the home straight. Shied momentarily prior to the finish with jockey M Kennedy becoming unbalanced briefly.
STORM SURGE – Laid inwards when under pressure in the home straight having to be corrected on a number of occasions.
Race 4: SPORTSBET OPEN Plate (1000 METRES)
HAN DYNASTY – Fractious prior to the start. Inclined to lay outwards when under pressure in the home straight.
HARD LANDING – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
HEAT – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Raced wide throughout.
SVINDAL – Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early stages.
KING OF THE VIBE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Jockey M Kennedy reported that her mount was second up today and would derive significant fitness benefit from the run.
SHE SMASHES – Began awkwardly. Shifted wider in the middle stages to improve. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: GREG HOHO "THIS IS FOR YOU BUDDY" Class B Handicap (1517 METRES)
RICALLEN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
LUNA READY – Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance trainer T Smith stated that in his opinion the filly may not have handled the step in distance today, he further added that he would now look to give LUNA READY a freshen up prior to its next race start.
DANE ICHI – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
MAGIC VALOUR – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Hung outwards rounding the home turn. When questioned in relation to the mares racing manners rounding the home turn apprentice A Meissner explained that it was her intention to race wide entering the home straight to afford MAGIC VALOUR to race on unbroken ground however did not anticipate racing as wide due to the mannerisms of the mare. Considering the circumstances stewards advised trainer L Keirnan that a warning would be placed on MAGIC VALOUR’s record for hanging outwards.
TOUGH AS TUNGSTEN – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey A Spinks stated that the mare had travelled well in the early stages however failed to respond to his riding urges from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer D Schultz was advised the TOUGH AS TUNGSTEN would be required to trial prior to its next race start due to being uncompetitive.
