RACE 1: JAMES SQUIRE LASHES BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (850m)
 
FAST ‘N’ FANCY – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
SOUL BROTHER – Slow to begin.
 
EGYPTIAN LASS – Began awkwardly and bumped with POWER MAIDEN shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
STELLA BOO – Raced wide in the early stages.

POWER MAIDEN – Bumped with EGYPTIAN LASS shortly after the start.
 
SUBSIDISE – Became extremely fractious in the barriers prior to the start, dislodging apprentice Tom Orr, and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:17 pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on SUBSIDISE be refunded, with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st STELLA BOO – 13c win, 12c place
2nd POWER MAIDEN – 12c place
3rd FAST ‘N’ FANCY – 12c place
 
Trainer Michael Stephens was advised that SUBSIDISE would require a veterinary clearance and must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
ROCK DREAMER (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISSION RIDGE – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
 

RACE 2: HAHN SUPER DRY MAIDEN PLATE (1194m)
 
MALBEC MAN – Elected to shift wider near the 500m in an attempt to improve.

I WANT IT ALL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

NOT HAPPENING – Bumped with CINCHICATED soon after the start. Laid outwards in the home straight and had to be corrected by its rider to avoid the heels of CINCHICATED near the 150m.
 
GRIT ‘N’ GLORY – Began awkwardly and, as a result, was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice Melissa Taylor advised that, at its first race start today, GRIT ‘N’ GLORY raced greenly throughout. Apprentice Taylor further stated that the gelding did not handle the sand surface and resented the kickback for the entirety of the event whilst racing at the rear of the field. A post-race veterinary examination of GRIT ‘N’ GLORY revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Belinda Mair was advised that Stewards would monitor the gelding’s performance at its upcoming race starts.
 
CINCHICATED – Bumped with NOT HAPPENING soon after the start. Laid outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 

RACE 3: QUEENS HOTEL WAYNE WILSON MEMORIAL QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
BORNEO – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SERIAL OFFENDER – Raced wide throughout.
 
OUTBACK STEP – Slow into stride. Inconvenienced near the 200m when COSMIC PROPORTIONS shifted inwards when insufficiently clear. Apprentice Jacallen Dooley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
STROMBOLI DELIGHT – Began awkwardly.
 
COSMIC PROPORTIONS – Shifted inwards soon after entering the home straight and near the 200m inconvenienced OUTBACK STEP.
 
KETTLEBELL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.

VIKING SUN – Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

 
RACE 4: DICEYS LIQUOR WAREHOUSE GLADSTONE NEWMARKET OPEN HANDICAP (1194m)
 
DEHORNED UNICORN – Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENTREPRENEURIAL – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards, impeding SUPER SLICK. Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn.
 
CORKSCREW (NZ) – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Adam Spinks was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish line. Jockey Spinks was further found guilty of a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, and 15 times in total. Jockey Spinks’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven days, with the suspension to commence midnight 8 August 2026 and conclude at midnight 15 August 2026.
 
SPITSBERG – Raced wide throughout.
 
NATIVE BEE – When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice Tom Orr stated that NATIVE BEE did not appreciate the fast tempo set in the early stages of the event. Apprentice Orr added that the gelding would derive significant fitness benefit from today’s event, being first up since March 2026. Trainer Damien Rideout was advised that a warning would be placed on NATIVE BEE’s record for the performance and that Stewards would monitor the gelding’s competitiveness at its upcoming race starts.
 
SUPER SLICK – Impeded at the start by ENTREPRENEURIAL when that runner shifted outwards.

 
RACE 5: XXXX GOLD GLADSTONE CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1608m)
 
CAFFREY (IRE) – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice Jason Miller stated that the gelding felt fine in its action throughout the event and had travelled well in the early stages, however failed to handle the sand track conditions. Apprentice Miller added that this may have been attributable to the heavy weight impost carried by CAFFREY (IRE).
 
HEAT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining the lead position near the 1250m. Near the 150m, commenced to shift outwards when under pressure and bumped MOISSANITE.
 
TRICKY BEANS – Bumped with FULL STRENGTH at the start. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice Nikki Olzard stated that TRICKY BEANS travelled well in the early stages, however, when placed under pressure near the 600m, the gelding failed to respond and went to the line in a disappointing manner.
 
CASH ARTIST – Near the 1250m, was inconvenienced for a few strides by MOISSANITE when that runner shifted inwards before being corrected by its rider. Jockey Adam Spinks was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
MOISSANITE – Raced wide throughout. Bumped by HEAT near the 150m when that runner shifted outwards.
 
TAKE THE LEAD – Raced wide throughout.
 
ALL BUSINESS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
FULL STRENGTH – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards bumping with TRICKY BEANS.
 
THREE GONGS – Commenced to weaken towards the rear of the field near the 1000m and, from a point near the 800m, took no further competitive part in the event and was beaten 46 lengths. When questioned regarding the poor performance, apprentice Tom Orr stated that he could offer no tangible explanation for the performance. Apprentice Orr added that, in the early stages of the event, he placed the gelding under pressure in an attempt to remain competitive, however THREE GONGS failed to respond to his riding and ultimately took no real competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination of THREE GONGS revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer Gary Teal was advised that, prior to racing again, THREE GONGS must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards to prove its competitiveness.
