General:
Jockey B. Richardson and apprentice L. Tilley both pleaded guilty to a charge of unseemly behaviour under AR 175(q), in that following the running of Race 4 at this meeting they were involved in a verbal altercation in the scales area and jockeys’ room, within earshot of members of the public. B. Richardson and L. Tilley were each fined $200.


Race 1: CAMPBELL FUELS MAIDEN THREE-YEAR-OLD & UP H’CAP - 1000m
1st – AIRMASS 2nd - DESTINY’S DESIRE 3rd – FOR OF US 4th – GILDED SPIRIT

AIRMASS – Bumped another runner at the start. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer P. Clarke noted it was the gelding’s first run for his stable, however could offer no tangible explanation for the improvement.

SEALEGS LILLY – Bumped another runner at the start. Jockey S. Bayliss reported the mare was inclined to hang out rounding the first turn.

MIGHTY MONSOON – Shifted in abruptly at the start.

READY FOR ROYALTY – Slow to muster speed. Raced very wide around the home turn.

SERRATED – Raced wide throughout.

ACCEPTING – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey T. Banks reported the gelding compounded from the 400m. He noted that the gelding was having its first start in 11 months and in his opinion would derive a significant fitness benefit from the event.


Race 2: JORDY RAYMOND CIVIL CONSTRUCTION CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1000m
1st – ROCKING EMPIRE 2nd – SHE’S RICH 3rd – WILLOW MIST 4th – IN MY FACE

IN MY FACE – Hampered at the start. Overraced in the early stages. Had to be checked from heels after passing the winning post when ROCKING EMPIRE (W. O’Connell) shifted in when insufficiently clear. W. O’Connell was issued with a reprimand for this incident.

WILLOW MIST – Raced wide throughout.

KING KAIYO – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.


Race 3: GUNDY CUP MEETING SEPTEMBER 12 CLASS B HCAP – 1200m
1st – BIZARRE ROCK 2nd – SMINCHA 3rd – FIELDS OF OXLEY 4th – ROMP IT IN

ROMP IT IN – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.

WONDERFUL WALLY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

SMINCHA – Brushed another runner near the 150m.

FIELDS OF OXLEY - Brushed another runner near the 150m.

EXEMPLARY (NZ) – When questioned regarding the performance, which was below market expectations, neither trainer S. Iverson nor jockey W. O’Connell could offer any tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.


Race 4: NATIONAL JOCKEYS CELEBRATION DAY BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1200m
1st – MORE OF THE ZAIM 2nd – LONG LASTING 3rd – NARCISSUS 4th – ON ICE NOW

TORIUSS – Slow to muster speed.

ROBERT’S COMMAND – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ON ICE NOW – Jockey B. Richardson was reprimanded for failing to weigh in for fourth place.


Race 5: PROTERRA BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1400m
1st – WHITE RAIN 2nd – DUNGIVEN 3rd – POUND ON TUBBY 4th - TELLZCAY

EASY TO SMILE – Slow to begin.

POUND ON TUBBY – Overraced in the early stages.
