As jockey S. Wilson was not riding at todays meeting due to injury he was replaced as per steward’s race-day summary.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the following riders were permitted to ride their respective mounts over their allotted weights.
Race 1, Shamarchie – A. Abe + 1kg,
Race 5, City Smart – F. Edwards + 1kg
Race 1: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 Metres
BETTER THAN THAT – Crowded for room on jumping.
DENISE'S PRIDE – Shifted out on jumping crowding BETTER THAN THAT.Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
VALIANT KNIGHT – Resented racing to the inside of SHAMARCHIE near the 50 metres when crowded for room and was steadied.
ISA GIRL – Laid out for the majority of the race and shifted wider rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G. Horner was advised a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners.
SHAMARCHIE – Shifted in near the 50 metres crowding VALIANT KNIGHT. Rider M. Abe was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 2: COREY MACHAN SHEETMETAL QTIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100
Metres
SMALL REWARD – Delayed the start slightly when proved difficult to load. Trainer P. Rowe advised stewards it is now his intention the mare be sent for an immediate spell.
STARFILLY – Slow to begin.
VIENNA CRUISE – Jumped outwards at the start bumping FIRST SLIP. Raced in restricted room approaching the 1000 metresand blundered when being restrained.
FIRST SLIP –Jumped inwards at the start bumping VIENNA CRUISE. Shifted in slightly near the 1000 metres crowding VIENNA CRUISE. Rider W. D’Avila pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip in an additional manner by striking his mount 8 times prior to the 100 metres, which is 3 more times than is permitted. Jockey D’Avila was fined the sum of $400.00 and advised of his rights to an internal review in regard to this breach. This was jockey D’Avila’s 4th breach of this rule.
RUSTIC ROCKER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly was lame in the off-hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance of soundness must be provided prior to RUSTIC ROCKER being permitted to race or trial again.
Race 3: GILVEAR PLANNING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1100 Metres
ROUGH CUT JEWEL – Shifted in and away from EXCEEDINGLY KOOL leaving the 1000 metres tightening runners to its inside.
VOLTAIC – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 1000 metres and shifted in bumping FLUTTERING.
FLUTTERING – Tightened for room and bumped leaving the 1000 metres.
ROTH'N'BELL – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
LABRUSCO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off front leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance of soundness must be provided prior to LABRUSCO being permitted to race or trial again.
Race 4: CAIRNS HARDWARE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1360 Metres
CRAIGLEASIMMO – Slow to begin.
STYLE LINE – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
FORGIATO – Over-raced in the early stages.
MISS CLAIR – Rider R. Shred advised stewards that in her opinion the mare was not comfortable on today’s firm surface.
BUWAN – Had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and threw its head in the air.
Race 5: FULLER SPORTS GORDONVALE CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1800
Metres
BULLSWOOL – Stewards accepted the reasoning for the late declaration of D. Smith as the rider of the gelding.Slow to begin.
CITY SMART – Slow to begin.Jockey F. Edwards was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner by striking his mount 19 times which is 5 more times than is permitted. Jockey Edwards licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 23 days to commence midnight 2 October 2021 and expire midnight 25th October 2021. Jockey F. Edwards was advised of his rights, regarding an Internal Review to this breach. This was jockey F. Edwards 7th breach of this rule.
SALESMAN – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
HE'S WOW CLASS – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
GAELIC –Rider W. D’Avila advised stewards that in his opinion the gelding was not comfortable on today’s firm surface.Rider W. D’Avila pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip in an additional manner by striking GAELIC 7 times prior to the 100 metres which is 2 more times than is permitted. Jockey D’Avila was fined the sum of $400.00 and advised of his rights to an internal review in regard to this breach. This was jockey D’Avila’s 5th breach of this rule.
