Race 1: HARVEY NORMAN GYMPIE CLASS B HCP – 850M

The start was delayed approximately five minutes when YOUPE was declared a late scratching at 1.32pm after becoming fractious behind the barriers, dislodged jockey R Payne and galloped a considerable distance before being recaptured. Prior to declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on YOUPE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

3c in the dollar for all win bets - # 6 (ROCKSHORE)
4c in the dollar for all place bets - #6 (ROCKSHORE)
4c in the dollar for all place bets - #9 (ALL GAIN)
4c in the dollar for all place bets – 1# (MAJIANG)

A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind. Trainer K Afford reported that the immediate racing future of YOUPE would now be considered, however nonetheless he was instructed to produce a veterinary certificate if YOUPE resumes a racing career.

MAJIANG – Tightened on jumping when taken in by MR FUJI.

MANDO ROCK – Permission was granted for the filly to race with only one front shoe when MANDO ROCK detached a shoe which was unable to replated behind the barriers. Hung in near the 400m inconveniencing MR FUJI. When questioned regarding the performance Jockey H Richardson reported that her mount was inclined to hang in throughout the event.

TORTUGA – Raced wide throughout.

MR FUJI – Shifted in abruptly on jumping. Steadied off heels of MANDO ROCK near the 400m.

ROCKSHORE – Jumped awkwardly and hampered shortly after.

BROWN LINES – Shifted out on jumping.

Race 2: GYMPIE MOTOR GROUP MDN PLT – 1170M

BARTA LINES – Hung out near the 1000m inconveniencing BLUE BOY MCCOMBE.

BLUE BOY MCCOMBE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey N Morton stated that after receiving interference near the 1000m, her mount was forced to race in the kickback. As her mount failed to travel when in the kickback, she elected to race wide to avoid the conditions and was satisfied with how BLUE BOY MCCOMBE finished off its race. Jockey N Morton plead guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that she failed to ride her mount out to the finish. Jockey Morton’s license was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 13/3/21 and to expire on midnight 21/3/21. When assessing penalty, stewards took into account jockey Morton’s guilty plea and record, however, were also mindful of the stage of the race in which she stopped riding and that her actions potentially cost her 3rd place.

MARMION – Raced wide throughout.

CELEBRATING – Rider R Faehr reported that his mount contacted the gates on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the gum.

After the running of this race, jockey R Payne was displaying signs of dehydration and was stood down from her remaining engagement. Jockey R Payne was advised she would require a medical prior to her next riding engagements.

Race 3: COOLOOLA FOOD SERVICE BM50 HCP – 1170M

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol films to ascertain whether MEGASHOT was afforded a fair start. After viewing the available films and taking evidence from jockey K Gates, stewards were satisfied that the reasons for MEGASHOT missing the start were purely down to the horse’s own mannerisms and correct weight was subsequently declared.

WILD ELEMENT – Raced wide throughout.

DESTINATION ROCKS – Raced wide throughout.

DRYSDALE SPIRIT – Apprentice R Wilson reported that her mount failed to handle the track conditions.

HAYLEE PRINCE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not competing in the past twelve months and was cleared to start. After arriving at the barriers, underwent another inspection and was deemed unfit to start and declared a late scratching at 2.51pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on HAYLEE PRINCE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

10c in the dollar for all win bets - # 7 (MAGIC PANTHER)
9c in the dollar for all place bets - #7 (MAGIC PANTHER)
9c in the dollar for all place bets - #1 (SOLID ASSET)
10c in the dollar for all place bets - #9 (PRESTISSIMO)

Trainer M Bailey was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to HAYLEE PRINCE starting in any trial or race.

MEGASHOT – Stood flat footed (5L) as the start was affected. Trainer K Afford advised that he would be considering the immediate racing future of MEGASHOT. Stewards nonetheless informed K Afford that a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding.

PRESTISSIMO – Raced wide throughout.

CARLTON STAR – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

Race 4: GJ GARDNER HOMES BM65 HCP – 1030M

LAST ARMAGEDDON – Rider H Richardson reported that her mount never travelled throughout the event and when asked for an effort, LAST ARMAGEDDON failed to respond and went to the line in a disappointing manner.

HAVASHOUT – Slow to begin.

SHE’S SMART – Apprentice R Wilson reported that her mount immediately resented the kickback, raced fiercely and had to be steadied off heels on a number of occasions. She added that when she directed SHE’S SMART to the outside to avoid the conditions near the 500m, her mount was able to settle and ran on fairly from that point on and was not overly disappointed with the effort.

GOSSIAUX – Slow to begin.

Race 5: GOLDFIELDS GYMPIE RUSG BM55 HCP – 1470M

Correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of 2nd placegetter H Richardson (BRIGHTON TOFF) to view the available films to ascertain whether there were grounds for a protest against 1st placegetter K Gates (LITTLE DRUMMER BOY). After a lengthy delay viewing the available patrol films, H Richardson declined to protest, and correct weight was declared.

BIGGIE – Declared a late scratching at 4.11pm after becoming fractious in the gates becoming cast for a significant period of time. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BIGGIE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

48c in the dollar for all win bets - # 8 (LITTLE DRUMMER BOY)
36c place for all place bets - #8 (LITTLE DRUMMER BOY)
36c place for all place bets - #4 (BRIGHTON TOFF)

Trainer A Sawden was advised that BIGGIE would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start. Jockey S Sweeney was subsequently examined by QAS officers after complaining of general soreness and was cleared of any obvious injuries.

LUCKY MACHU – Raced wide throughout.

BRIGHTON TOFF – Steadied approaching the winning post when LITTLE DRUMMER BOY shifted In.

GRANDE CASADORA – Apprentice L Dillon reported that she could offer no explanation for her mounts disappointing performance. She added that as her mount failed to travel throughout the event and failed to respond to her urgings, she elected not to place GRANDE CASADORA under any more pressure over the concluding stages.

EMOTIVE MOUNTAIN – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

FORT MYER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being kicked by another runner when loaded in the barriers. FORT MYER was found to be lame in the near hind and deemed unfit for racing and was declared a late scratching at 4.17pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on FORT MYER be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

Trainer D Corbett was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to FORT MYER racing again.

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY – Shifted in approaching the winning post inconveniencing BRIGHTON TOFF. Jockey K Gates was reprimanded under AR132(5) for using her whip on 15 occasions throughout the event.
