Stewards – S. Fletcher, H. Matthews

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Gayndah 07/06/2025

Race 2: Rider W. O’Connell pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b), that as the rider of NEWELL BEACH he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race. W. O’Connell was fined $200. In determining penalty, Stewards were comfortably satisfied that W. O’Connell’s actions had not cost his mount first place, acknowledging his guilty plea and clear disciplinary record regarding this rule.

GENERAL

Apprentice rider B. Moffat was permitted to retain his rides in Races 1 and 4 and to only claim 1kg of his 2kg allowance in Race 1 and no claim in Race 4 when no other suitable rider was available. Apprentice B. Moffat subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR143(14)(a) and fined the sum of $300 for failing to claim his full allowance in Race 1 on LATE NIGHT DEVIL (1kg of 2kg) and in Race 4 on TORRENTIAL (0kg of 2kg). In determining penalty, stewards took into account Apprentice Moffat’s poor record under this rule over the previous 12 months, his guilty plea and other mitigating factors presented to stewards.

Stewards accepted the explanations tendered from trainer T. Thomas regarding the late rider declaration for DON’T CHA WISH in Race 4.

Race 1: STEPHENS FAMILY SPRINT BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (850 METRES)

DELIGHTFUL DREAM - On arrival at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near hind leg. Trainer B. Thornton was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

RUNAROUND SUE – Began awkwardly. Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages. Apprentice rider C. Lowe dropped her whip near the 200m.

THE RATTLESNAKE – Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to hang out under pressure in the home straight.

IGBO – Fractious in the barriers. Raced 4-wide in the early stages.

ULTRA INSTINCT – Slow to begin. Rider W. O’Connell reported that his mount resented the kickback.

LOVE MY LOUIS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Made the crossing at the 750m awkwardly. Had to be steadied near the 300m when improving onto the heels of ULTRA INSTINCT which was weakening.

Race 2: THE TRADIES OPEN Handicap (1030 METRES)

DARE TO SHARE – Raced wide throughout.

MEDALS – Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages.

HOLIDAY DREAMS – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

DIGGITY – Slow to muster speed.

JAIN – When asked to comment on the performance, rider K. Gates advised that her mount struggled to maintain its position, adding that once it began to lose ground, it encountered kickback which it resented.

CLOCKS TICKING – Raced 4-wide for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, rider W. O’Connell advised that the instructions from the trainer were to obtain a forward position, however upon jumping from the wide barrier, was obliged to race wide from an early stage and as a result, struggled to maintain the early speed and commenced to weaken from the 400m. He further added that the step up in distance and rise in class of todays event further contributed to the performance.

Race 3: COOL RUNNINGS QTIS Maiden Plate (1170 METRES)

WOOLMAR – Bumped after the start when CITY SUN shifted out on jumping. Race 3-wide in the early and middle stages. Apprentice rider J. Busuttin reported that she raced wide in an effort to avoid the kickback which her mount resented. Inclined to hang in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CITY SUN – Shifted out on jumping and bumped WOOLMAR. Overraced in the early stages. Apprentice rider S. Bailey advised that the filly resented the kickback.

BRAIDWOOD ROSE – Raced 3-wide in the early and middle stages.

Race 4: TSR R U COOL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap (1170 METRES)

PAPER COWBOY – Bumped at the start when ABSOLVE shifted out on jumping and MADALSA shifted in. Race 3-wide throughout.

DON’T CHA WISH – Slow to begin. Momentarily steadied and forced wider passing the 300m when DAINTREE DREAMING had to be steadied and shifted wider to avoid the heels of SUNSHINYDAY which was weakening.

MADALSA – Shifted in on jumping and bumped PAPER COWBOY. Raced wide throughout.

BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

KOGA NINJA – Made the crossing at the 750m awkwardly.

ABSOLVE – Fractious in the barriers. Shifted out on jumping and bumped PAPER COWBOY. Rider K. Gates was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mount out fully to the finish.

SUNSHINYDAY – Weakened passing the 400m.

DAINTREE DREAMING – Near the 300m, had to be steadied and shifted wider to avoid the heels of the weakening SUNSHINYDAY (Apprentice T. Wheeler), which in turn forced DON’T CHA WISH (M. Kennedy) wider on the track. Stewards, in the presence of Racing Qld apprentice mentor Mr. M Cahill, inquired into the circumstances that led to DAINTREE DREAMING having to be steadied from the heels of SUNSHINYDAY (Apprentice T. Wheeler) near the 300m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties and viewing the available footage, stewards could not apportion blame to any one rider in this circumstance.

MAYBE SMART – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

MISS RINEHART – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Hung out for the majority of the event and rounding the home turn.

Race 5: TSR - REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING CUP BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1470 METRES)

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to inquire into the circumstances of Apprentice rider T. Wheeler (OPTIMUS MAXIMUS), placed fourth (4th) by the Judge, failing to weigh in immediately following the running of Race 5. After being belatedly weighed in in the presence of stewards and following an inquiry with Apprentice Wheeler and the trainer Mr. T Thomas, stewards determined that they were satisfied that OPTIMUS MAXIMUS had carried the required weight during the race and subsequently declared correct weight on the official numbers.

OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Stewards, in the presence of Racing Qld apprentice mentor Mr. M Cahill, inquired into the circumstances that led to Apprentice rider T. Wheeler failing to weigh in immediately following the running of Race 5. Apprentice rider T. Wheeler (OPTIMUS MAXIMUS) pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence which led to a breach of the Rules pursuant to AR227(a) in that as the rider of OPTIMUS MAXIMUS, placed fourth (4th) by the judge, he failed to weigh in when required to do so. Apprentice T. Wheeler was fined the sum of $400. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the serious nature of this breach in addition to Apprentice Wheelers guilty plea, forthright evidence, record, the remorse shown and relative inexperience as an apprentice.

CAILIN ALAINN – Slow to begin.

KASEAR – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

CZARACER – Fractious in the barriers.
