GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 1: Rider M. Powell +1kg (56kg)
Race 3: Rider C. Taylor +1kg (56.5kg)
All riders in attendance were sampled upon arrival at the racecourse prior to Race 1.
Race 1 - MICHAEL & ROBYN NOLAN RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 850 M
AMPHAWA – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped BRAIDWOOD PRINCE. Apprentice S. Wilcock was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(a) for using her whip forward of the horse’s shoulder.
BRAIDWOOD PRINCE – Bumped at the start.
NINE CIGARS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as a twelve-year-old. Raced in restricted room to the inside of DAINTREE DREAMING upon entering the home straight until near the 100m. Rider C. Meehan was reminded of his obligations pursuant to AR132(6)(b) regarding using his whip above shoulder height.
IMMORTAL LASS – Rider K. Gates reported that her mount struggled with the pace of today’s race and was not suited to the step up in grade.
LATE NIGHT TALKING – Near the 750m, raced in restricted room for a short distance between NINE CIGARS and AMPHAWA. Apprentice S. Bailey reported that her mount resented the kickback and was not comfortable on today’s surface.
POWER MAIDEN – Shifted in to obtain clear running in the home straight. Rider M. Taylor was reminded of her obligations pursuant to AR131(b) regarding riding her mount out fully to the line.
DAINTREE DREAMING – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2 - TONY & DEBBIE NOLAN QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1030 M
MISHPAT – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
NOT HAPPENING – Hung out for the majority of the event, proving difficult to ride. Rider C. Meehan reported his mount resented the kickback in the early stages and from that point on, commenced to hang out considerably. Trainer M. Nolan was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for hanging.
SECRET CAVIAR – Became very fractious pre-race en-route to the barriers, making contact with the outside rail on a number of occasions. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Very slow to begin. Trainer J. Hancock was advised SECRET CAVIAR would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. Trainer J. Hancock advised it would be the intention to retire the mare.
SEIZING DESTINY – Commenced to weaken from the 600m, losing significant ground and finishing tailed off. Rider M. Taylor reported her mount resented the kickback. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Mair was advised a warning would be placed on the filly for its poor performance.
BRAIDWOOD ROSE – Approaching the 850m, commenced to over-race for some distance, becoming awkwardly placed on heels.
Race 3 - TERRY & JAN NOLAN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1030 M
I AM VOODOO – Knuckled on jumping.
GOLD REVOLUTION – Apprentice S. Wilcock was reminded of her obligations pursuant to AR132(6)(a) regarding use of her whip forward of the horse’s shoulder. Though the strike was in the vicinity of the shoulder, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied it was forward of the horse’s shoulder, therefore no further action was taken.
PAPER COWBOY – Laid out rounding the home turn.
TORVECCHIO – Began awkwardly. Apprentice V. Soulsby reported after beginning awkwardly, her mount traveled comfortably to the 600m but failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure.
HEART OF PLATINUM – Slow to begin. Tailed off from the 850m. Rider K. Gates advised that after receiving significant kickback in the early stages, her sight was impaired for the remainder of the event and therefore had difficulty controlling her mount and elected to keep wide and to the rear of the field in the interest of safety for herself and fellow riders.
Race 4 - NOLAN MUSTER CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1470 M
ACES UP (NZ) – Raced wide without cover throughout.
RUMBLING AWAY – Apprentice V. Soulsby was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(g) for using her whip when clearly winning.
SHOW ME THE STARS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
GALACTIC LEGEND – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Apprentice K. Johnston reported her mount was fractious in the barriers, reared at the start and was of the opinion the gelding had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. Johnston was advised GALACTIC LEGEND would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. Trainer J. Johnston advised it would be the intention to send the gelding for a spell.
MEKANIC – Commenced to weaken from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled in the off-side nostril. Trainer K. Afford was advised of the provisions of AR79(8) that the gelding would be required to undergo a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to returning.
Race 5 - NEW CHAPTER BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1170 M
PABALLO – Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 50m, momentarily steadied when COSMIC PROPORTIONS shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider.
COSMIC PROPORTIONS – Began awkwardly. Forced wider rounding the turn near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
OUTDOOR CAT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
ENERGIA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Forced wider rounding the turn near the 900m. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider M. Taylor was reminded of her obligations pursuant to AR132(6)(c) regarding using her whip when out of contention. Rider M. Taylor reported she was forced wider at the first turn and then remained wide for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Mair was advised a warning would be placed on the mare for poor performance.
GRANDEUR ROSE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after striking its head on the float upon arrival at the racecourse.
COSTA CATORI – Took the first turn near the 900m awkwardly, forcing COSMIC PROPORTIONS and ENERGIA wider.
