GENERAL

Due to a clerical error App A Donald’s status as a 4kg claiming apprentice was not displayed in the official race program. Bookmakers were notified by Stewards prior to the commencement of betting and Patrons via way of on course public announcement.

Jockey S Sheargold was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR127 after being dual engaged in Race 2.

Race 1: BURDEKING VETERINARY SERVICE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1460m

MBAPPE- Bumped with another runner soon after jumping. Took the 1300m turn awkwardly. On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the first such occurrence Trainer T Clive was advised that, under the provisions of AR79, the gelding would incur a 3 month ban from racing and be subject to a satisfactory gallop over 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

MURTALLICA- Bumped with another runner soon after starting.

THE DECKERAIDER- Slow into stride.

MARVELLOUS HEART- Slow into stride.

BOLD SPICE- Raced wide rounding the 1300m turn. Commenced to tire noticeably from the 600m before being retired from the race. Subsequent veterinary examinations failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Holt undertook to notify Stewards should anything become apparent regarding the geldings performance in the coming days. Trainer G Holt was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

RAMACHANDRA- Bumped by another runner which shifted out passing the 600m.

OR ELSE- Bumped the inside running rail passing the 600m, shifted out and bumped with another runner.

MOVING TARGET- Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: DON WEST TOYOTA CLASS B HANDICAP 1000m

BLUMISS- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

BELFAST LASS- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Performed below market expectations. Jockey B Thomson advised that her mount had travelled well throughout but struggled somewhat with the fast pace before finishing off well, adding that, in her opinion, the filly would be better suited to races over further distances. Trainer A Molino concurred with Jockey Thomson’s assessment. Stewards noted the explanations.

ARROGANT HEART- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to lay out from the 600m turn. Obliged to shift in around the heels fo another runner which was inclined to lay out under pressure passing the 50m.

TRAPASSI- Inclined to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3: BURDEKIN RACE CLUB QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000m

BIRDS NEST- Hampered on jumping after being marginally slow away. Shifted out and away from the heels of another runner, which had been inclined to lay out under pressure, passing the 100m.

MAHKOTA ROSE- Bumped by another runner on jumping and before shifting in hampering a further runner.

JAY KAY CEE- Began awkwardly and was buffeted between runners on jumping. Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running.

LUCY VAN PELT- Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping with another runner.

WRONGLY ACCUSED- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

JINK AND JIVE- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

Stewards inquired into the reason/s ZOU SOME DAMAGE (G Kliese) was checked passing the 600m. After viewing the official patrol footage and taking evidence from the riders involved it was ascertained that at that point JAY KAY CEE (N Nelson) shifted in when insufficiently clear of ZOU SOME DAMAGE (G Kliese) passing the 600m causing that runner to be checked and loose its rightful running. Jockey N Nelson pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) with Stewards subsequently suspending her license to ride in races for a period of 14 days to commence 31st May 2021 up to and including 13th June 2021. In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration the severity of the interference and degree of carelessness, which was deemed to be in the mid-range, Jockey Nelsons record in relation to the rule as well as her guilty plea. Jockey Nelson was advised of her right to an internal review.

Race 4: TAB 2021 BATTLE OF THE BUSH HOME HILL QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP 1180m

HIT SNOOZE- Began awkwardly.

RICH PRINCESS- Slow into stride after beginning awkwardly.

JEMADAR- Began awkwardly.

VERBALIZER- Raced wide until a point near the 1200m. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Passing the 200m became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by another runner. Bumped with that same runner several times from the 200m-100m.

BALMACEDA- Bumped by another runner, which shifted in passing the 200m, before shifting in and bumping with the hindquarters of a further runner. Bumped with that runner on several occasions from the 200m-100m.

REBEL LAKE- Shifted in marginally passing the 200m bumping with another runner.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey B Thomson, rider of 5th placegetter BALMACEDA, against VERBALIZER (C Spry) being declared placed 3rd on the grounds of interference from the 200m-100m. Stewards were of the opinion that, whilst BALMACEDA and VERBALIZER, which had been inclined to lay out under pressure,  had bumped on several occasions from the 200m-100m the initial interference suffered by BALMACEDA had come from REBEL LAKE (S Sheargold) which had shifted in marginally passing the 200m bumping with BALMACEDA causing that runner to shift inward and bump with the hindquarters of VERBALIZER which became unbalanced resulting in it laying out further and bumping with BALMACEDA several times. Given that the interference suffered by BALMACEDA could not be solely attributed to VERBALIZER and considering the beaten margin between the two runners Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judges numbers.
