GENERAL
 
Stewards have adjourned an Inquiry into a complaint received from Burdekin Race Club President Mr R Gudge regarding the alleged conduct and actions of
Trainer Mr B Crear at the on course stabling area just prior to the running of Race 8.  
 
Race 1: SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER QTIS Maiden Plate 1000M.
 
MISHANI WOLF – Lost ground in the early stages and became detached from the field shortly after. Trainer John Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on MISHANI WOLF with respect to its poor performance.
 
THE GENERAL TALKS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to race. Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping with BREECHES.
 
BREECHES – Bumped on jumping and taken inward onto RAPID POWER which had to be steadied. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
PARTY FOR US – Began awkwardly losing ground. Raced keenly in the initial stages. Hung in under pressure over the final 200 metres.
 
RAPID POWER – Had to be steadied shortly after the start.
 
MEANS TEST – Raced greenly entering the first turn when being restrained.
 
Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER Class 2 Handicap 1000M.

HELL OF A TRIP – Jumped out at the start and was slow to begin.
 
MELO MELO KAVA – Hampered on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn before shifting to the outside of FRAMED IT passing the 200 metres to obtain clear running.
 
REMEMBER ROY – Crowded for a short distance shortly after leaving the barriers. When asked to comment on the performance of REMEMBER ROY, rider Ivo Fry reported that gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure, failed to respond to riding and proved disappointing.
 
THREEBROTHERS – Raced keenly when wide in the preliminary stages.
 
ROCKBARTON RACER – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with MR KOBO.
 
YANIT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to race. Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping MR KOBO.
 
MR KOBO – Raced three-wide for the majority. Bumped on jumping. Ran wide rounding the final turn.
 
Race 3: DERBY DAY NOVEMBER 1ST Benchmark 70 Handicap 1000M

CAPTAIN BOND – Bumped at the start losing ground. When questioned regarding the performance of CAPTAIN BOND, rider Justin Huxtable stated that after getting back at the start, the gelding had failed to make any ground and struggled to carry the heavy handicap weight today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
VIBURNUM – Made the first turn awkwardly and laid out taking TO LOVE SOMEBODY out onto YOUR TOO GOOD. Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
 
YOUR TOO GOOD– Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing on Friday 22 August 2025 at Cairns and was passed fit to race. Raced four-wide without cover throughout.
 
KISS ME LATER – Jumped out at the start and bumped with CAPTAIN BOND, which lost ground.
 
TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Had to be steadied after being taken out by VIBURNUM rounding the first turn.
 
Race 4: BUILT ON LIQUID GOLD Class 3 Plate 1830M.

KINGS CASTLE –Approaching the 700 metres, shifted in tightening THE SEEKER, which had to steady. Rider Wanderson D’Avila was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
 
ODEGAARD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing on Friday 22 August 2025 at Cairns and was passed fit to race. Laid in under pressure near the 100 metres and had to be straightened. Briefly inconvenienced by PRIMO passing 75 metres.
 
PRIMO – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Had to be steadied off heels for some distance passing the 1250 metres. Laid out under pressure, passing the 75 metres briefly inconvenienced ODEGAARD.
 
TRIGGERIFIC – Jumped out at the start bumping with PRIMO. Compounded passing the 350 metres and finished a considerable distance behind the bulk of the field. When questioned on the performance, rider Aidan Holt stated that TRIGGERIFIC felt uncomfortable in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
READ ‘EM AND WEEP – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after. Dipped when making the crossing at 1300 metres.
 
TORQUE ESPAGNA – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
 
THE SEEKER – Tightened for room approaching the 700 metres and had to be steadied.
 
Race 5: BURDEKIN RACE CLUB 0-55 Handicap 1180M

STATESWOMAN – Laid in shortly after leaving the barriers and had to be straightened. Raced wide without cover throughout. Weakened passing the 500 metres. When questioned regarding her riding through the early stages and in particular if there was an opportunity to occupy a trailing position at any stage, apprentice rider McKenzie Apel stated that after beginning well from a wide barrier, she elected to ride to instructions and settle in a forward position, however, was caught wide. Apprentice Apel stated that STATESWOMAN tends to over-race when being restrained, and as such was reluctant to try and settle the filly in the middle stages. Rider Apel added that STATESWOMAN raced off the bridle from the 800 metres and failed to respond when placed under pressure. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
INALA ATICUS – Raced wide throughout.
 
OUR FOLLY – Fractious in the mounting enclosure prior to the start. Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: SWEETEST TOWN 0-55 Handicap 1180M

MR CALEB – Began awkwardly and jumped inward contacting the hindquarters of POWER PUFF. Brushed with the running rail passing the 1000 metres. Checked and lost ground at the 800 metres after HOLD MY HALO shifted in abruptly. MR CALEB made heavy contact with the running rail consequently.
 
BATTALION – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to race. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
HOLD MY HALO – Shifted in abruptly near the 800 metres despite the riders’ efforts making heavy contact with MR CALEB, which was checked and lost ground. After questioning riders Aidan Holt (MR CALEB) and Wanderson D’Avila (HOLD MY HALO) and reviewing vision of the incident, it was established that HOLD MY HALO’s inward movement was beyond the control of rider D’Avila and no action was taken. A post-race veterinary examination of HOLD MY HALO which raced disappointingly revealed the mare to be displaying signs of a possible seasonal complaint.
 
BASQUE – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MADAME MOTH – Bounded in the air on jumping away then shifted out hampering BASQUE, which lost ground.
 
LETHALLY STELLA – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RUGGED ROY – Jumped out at the start.
 
Race 7: BURDEKIN RIVER Benchmark 55 Handicap 1460M

SAND ‘N’ POWER – Help up rounding the home turn before obtaining a run to the inside of HIT SNOOZE passing the 200 metres.
 
JOE’S GIGGLE – Laid out under pressure passing the 75 metres.
 
SPELLMASTER – Held up rounding the home turn up to a point passing the 100 metres. When questioned on the performance of SPELLMASTER, rider Justin Huxtable stated that he was not disappointed in the performance of the gelding given that after being held up at a crucial stage of the race, the gelding failed to regain its momentum once obtaining clear racing room. Trainer Clinton Taylor advised that he would report back on any abnormal condition of SPELLMASTER in the days subsequent.
 
CONVERTOR – Shifted in on jumping hampering LOOK AT ROSA. Raced wide in the preliminary stages.
 
SIR MAXIMUS – Raced wide throughout.
 
HIT SNOOZE – Raced wide in the initial stages. When questioned on the beaten performance of the last start winner HIT SNOOZE, apprentice rider McKenzie Apel stated that HIT SNOOZE failed to quicken when placed under pressure in the home straight and the mare failed to run out the distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TEQUILA DANCER – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Had to be steadied away from the heels of SIR MAXIMUS approaching the 50 metres.
 
LOOK AT ROSA – Hampered at the start and got back. Held up rounding the home turn until passing 75 metres.
 
Race 8: SILVERLINK Open Handicap 1460M

OUTBACK ACTION – When questioned on the performance, rider Aidan Holt stated that the gelding failed to quicken when placed under pressure in the home straight and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near side foreleg. Trainer Lachlan Manzelmann was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
BELLACIAOCIAO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection having not raced for an extended period and was passed fit to race. Dipped when making the crossing at the 1300 metres and raced ungenerously for a short distance thereafter. Rider Wanderson D’Avila was reminded of his obligations with respect to the use of his whip when out of contention.
 
THE DRILLER – Held up rounding the home turn. Hampered approaching the 400 metres and lost ground.
 
JOHN JOSEPH – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
POET’S DAY – When making the home turn, commenced to lay in and after being corrected by apprentice rider Shakira Bailey, hampered THE DRILLER and VIVENZO which both had to be steadied.
 
VIVENZO – Hampered approaching the 400 metres.
