RACE 1: TABLELAND HARDWARE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 900 M
GROVERS PREDICTION – As the mare had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
SHERE KHAN – Slow to begin.
ACCEPT POWER – Slow into stride.
SCARLETT MODA – Race wide for the majority of the race. When asked to explain the performance of the mare which raced below market expectations, Jockey L. Morrison advised stewards that after beginning well SCARLETT MODA travelled well within itself, however failed to respond to her riding when placed under pressure and had a tendency to lay out however was disappointing. Trainer B. Bailey advised he was unable to offer any tangible explanation and was disappointed with its performance and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in the coming days that may have had a bearing on its performance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer B. Bailey subsequently advised stewards the mare to have minor soreness in the off foreleg. Stewards advised him that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the mare trialing or racing again.
REMEMBER ROY – Jockey T. Chambers advised stewards that in her opinion the gelding was not entirely comfortable on todays heavy track conditions.
OUR ADDICTION – Stewards noted rider M. Abe exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
RACE 2: COOKTOWN HARDWARE OPEN PLATE 900 M
YES DREAM – As the gelding had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Fractious in the barriers beginning awkwardly and was then tightened for room between RED BOOMSHAKALAKA which shifted out and MIDAS STAR which shifted in.
RED BOOMSHAKALAKA – Shifted out on jumping tightening YES DREAM.
MIDAS STAR – Shifted in on jumping tightening YES DREAM.
SPEED LEGEND – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
DEVIL’S INN – Slow into stride.
INCHING CLOSER – Jockey W. D’Avila was momentarily unbalanced on jumping.
ROWEINER’S DANCE – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race. When questioned, jockey T. Chambers advised stewards the horse did not handle today’s heavy track conditions. Trainer W. Kenning advised the mare pulled up well and agreed with jockey T. Chambers’ comments and further gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in the coming days that may have a bearing on its performance today.
RACE 3: INNISFAIL HARDWARE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 M
The running of this race was delayed when the ambulance was required for apprentice jockey Ms. J. Devine who fell ill. Ms. Devine was transported to hospital for further observation. Ms. G. Holt, current master of apprentice Ms. Devine was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to Ms. Devins’ next race ride. Replacements were made as per the steward’s summary.
IRRESISTIBLE FORCE – As no other suitable rider was available IRRESISTIBLE FORCE was declared a late scratching at 1:55pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all bets placed on IRRESISTIBLE FORCE be refunded with the following deductions to be applicable to all successful bets prior to 1:55pm:
-1st MCLOVIN 23c win, 18c place
-2nd INDEFINITE 18c place
-3rd CAPICELLA 18c place
VERBALIZE – Delayed the start further when proved difficult to load. On a report from official starter Mr. B. Brady the gelding was uncomfortable from inadequate room in its barrier and would benefit from a barrier extension which was relayed to trainer Mr. A. Ryan. Shifted out at the start bumping with RARE AND RELIABLE.
TIPPED OFF – Slow to begin.
MCLOVIN – Shifted in at the start crowding SUPERSTITIONS. When questioned into the improved performance of the gelding trainer S. Hoffman advised the horse was not comfortable when crowded during its last start and she had been experimenting with gear changes and removed blinkers for today’s race which was beneficial to the horse’s performance. Her explanation was noted.
SKOGAFOSS – Shifted in soon after the start crowding FOO FIGHTER. Jockey M. Abe was advised to exercise greater care. Crowded for room near the 1000 metres by CAPICELLA which shifted in.
FOO FIGHTER – Slow into stride and was then crowded for room by SKOGFOSS which shifted in.
SUPERSTITIONS – Crowded for room on jumping.
RARE AND RELIABLE (NZ) – Shifted in at the start bumping with VERBALIZE.
PREMIUM STAR – Shifted out at the start crowding SUPERSTITIONS.
CAPICELLA – Shifted in near the 1000 metres crowding SKOGAFOSS. Jockey I. Fry was advised to show more care.
RACE 4: CAIRNS HARDWARE MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
SUPER STEVEN – Shifted in at the start crowding TUTU TOULOUSE.
TUTU TOULOUSE – Crowded for room on jumping.
TOO MUCH CHILLI – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
ONOMA – Over-raced in the early stages.
RACE 5: HERBERT HALL HARDWARE QTIS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1500 M
SANJUAN – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Finished tailed off. When questioned, jockey Ms. T. Chambers was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance other than the horse wasn’t totally comfortable in today’s track condition. Trainer Ms. M. Potiris was of the opinion the horse didn’t handle today’s heavy track conditions and while she intends to freshen the horse up after today’s race she will try and reframe from starting the horse on similar tracks. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
ROTH AUTHORITY – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
REDLIGHTS ON – Hung out rounding the home turn.
RACE 6: CONSIDER IT DONE MAGIC MILLIONS/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL/FNQ U&C STAYERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2000 M
KHAMIS – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with MEDAL and lost ground.
MEDAL (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with KHAMIS.
THE HONEY BADGER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted out at the 900m to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.
