RACE 2: ARCTIC KISS ICE BAR TICKETS AVAILABLE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1000M

DIAMOND GLOW – Kicked by another runner after arriving at the start. Examined by the veterinary surgeon who reported that the horse had sustained a laceration to the off foreleg and withdrawn on that advice at 12.40 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DIAMOND GLOW be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

8 cents in the dollar for the Win #1
8 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4

BLACK ZERO – Slow into stride. Apprentice S. Fawke was fined $200 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.

LOUISIANA ROUGE – Lunged forward after being boxed and broke open its front gates. Removed from its stall, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

PEZENAS – Slow into stride.

FAVORITE SHADOW – Clipped heels near the 800m and blundered badly. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that FAVORITE SHADOW, which was overracing badly, shifted out away from the heels of GLENBAWN DAME, which itself shifted out after being crossed by LOUISIANA ROUGE, which shifted in when barely clear. As the stewards were unable to be comfortably satisfied that due to the manners of FAVORITE SHADOW the incident may not have occurred, J. Byre (LOUISIANA ROUGE) was nevertheless told that the manner in which his mount had been shifted across GLENBAWN DAME bordered on carelessness and that he should ensure he is properly clear when crossing runners in future. A post-race veterinary examination of FAVORITE SHADOW revealed a laceration to the front of the off fore coronet.

RACE 3: DJ HAVANA BROWN ON JUNE 13 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

ANGEL OF LIBERTY – Raced four wide without cover.

RACE 4: WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT JUNE 13 CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1690M

VODNIK – B. Grylls explained that the horse was tardy to begin, which did not concern her as she had been instructed to ride it in a rearward position. She said the horse seemed to travel well throughout the run, however from the 700m when the tempo of the race quickened, her mount was left flat-footed and despite her urgings was unable to sprint with the remainder of the field. She added that as a result, VODNIK was unable to make up ground and finished one-paced in the run to the line and was most disappointing. Trainer B. Hill stated that the gelding does not appreciate racing on firm surfaces and agreed that today's tempo was not suitable as the gelding performs best when racing over further distance with the pace on in its races. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Mr Hill was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required to be produced prior to the horse's next start.

ROOMS ON FIRE – Restrained off heels near the 1300m and steadied to shift back in closer to the rail.

RACE 5: XXXX SUMMER MARQUEE TICKETS SELLING FAST QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1350M

On return to scale L. Cassidy, the rider of 2nd placegetter SHADOW LAWN, viewed the stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner STELLA DI NOTTE. After viewing the videos, jockey Cassidy lodged an objection, alleging interference approaching the 200m. On the evidence it was established that near the 250m, as J. Byrne (STELLA DI NOTTE) pulled his whip through to his right-hand, his whip accidentally struck SHADOW LAWN on one occasion. As the stewards were satisfied that any contact with the whip was negligible and the effects therefore immeasurable, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge's placings.
