RACE 1: CITY OF IPSWICH CLASS 1 H'CAP – 800m
BEYOND THE STORM – Slow to begin.
COLEY – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice G. Goold stated it was his intention to race in a forward position, however after being slow into stride and failing to muster any early speed settled back further than he had anticipated. He added that the gelding finished the race off well, and also recommended to connections to remove the blinkers and cross-over noseband for its next race start.
JAYELEM – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
JAI'S LUCK – Had to be steadied from the heels of SUPERDUTY, which shifted in under pressure near the 100m.
STAR STILETTO – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 2: SKY RACING CG&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
HEART OF THE SUN – Stewards approved the late gear change of the addition of hoof pads.
POET – Underwent a pre-race examination as the gelding had not started for a considerable period of time and was subsequently cleared to start. Held up when awkwardly placed at heels and had to be steadied rounding the home turn.
CAMPINO – Had to be checked when tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Bled both nostrils. Connections were advised that the gelding would be ineligible to race for a period of 3 months and would be required to perform a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.
OUR BOY BEN – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide without cover.
TENT SILENCE – Made contact at the start. For a short distance leaving the 200m was placed in restricted room to the inside of ROCKIANA, which shifted in under pressure.
CASINO GOLD – Made contact at the start. Held up rounding the home turn and unable to improve until entering the home straight.
ROCKIANA - Inclined to lay in under pressure for the majority of the home straight and proved difficult to ride.
REVELIO – Rider T. Harrison reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in under pressure for the majority of the home straight. Trainer T. Bailey reported to stewards following the race that the gelding returned after the race with its tongue over the bit and felt that this was the reason for the gelding weakening over the concluding stages. He advised that he would experiment with the addition of a tongue-tie for its next race start.
RACE 3: QUEENSLAND TIMES F&M H’CAP – 1200M
Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the stewards patrol film over the concluding stages to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of the second placegetter, CHASTE ANGEL, against HIDDEN LOVE being declared the winner. Subsequently, stewards were satisfied that there were no adequate grounds for an objection to be lodged and subsequently declared correct weight on the Judge's placings.
DIRECT QUOTE - Jockey T. Bell reported at scale that the filly raced greenly throughout and would be better suited over further distances. Shifted out under pressure near the 200m and bumped another runner.
TWILIGHT HUNTER – Slow to begin.
SKYLAR'S STAR – Slow to begin.
CHASTE ANGEL – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact.
FOXY SAINT – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
GREY OPINION – Bumped near the 200m.
RACE 4: CHANNEL 7 CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1100m
FEW ARE CHOSEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SANSHO DAYU – Overraced for a short distance near the 900m. Had to be steadied near the 700m when overracing. Crowded for room approaching the winning post.
CHOOSE A SAGA – Stewards acceded to a request from trainer S. Ryan for the horse to race without a tongue-tie as this was the gelding's first start for his stable and had trialled without this gear. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running upon entering the home straight. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey G. Colless stated his instructions were to ride in a forward position, however after beginning only fairly was unable to muster sufficient early speed and therefore elected to take up a position towards the rear of the field.
TRESSLES – Stewards afforded jockey C. Whiteley the opportunity to comment on the performance. He stated that the gelding was only having its third start back from a 15 month break and at this stage of its racing career may be better suited to races over shorter distances than that of today's event. Stewards will follow up with trainer B. Guy in the days subsequent in relation to horse's post race recovery.
RACE 5: MIDDLE GREEN QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
YABA DABL DOYA – Declared a late scratching at 8.40 am when found to be lame after being replated.
ORCHESTRAL PRINCE – Apprentice M. Powell was fined $300 for failing to claim his full allowance.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by the connections of the 3rd placegetter, JETINTOIT, against MANKINI LOVE being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards' patrol film it was established that whilst MANKINI LOVE did shift out under pressure at this stage taking JETINTOIT slightly wider on the track, stewards were also mindful of where this incident occurred and the margin between the relevant horses at the finish and therefore were of the opinion that a reversal of placings was not warranted and therefore dismissed the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge's placings.
At a subsequent inquiry, L. Tarrant, rider of MANKINI LOVE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 100m he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure, resulting in JETINTOIT being taken wider on the track, and causing ORCHESTRAL PRINCE to be tightened for room and having to be checked at this stage. Apprentice Tarrant was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 June and to expire at midnight, 4 July.
JETINTOIT – Began awkwardly.
RUNWAY ANGEL – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
STARBYTE – Bumped heavily shortly after the start.
I LIKE CANDY – Bumped a short distance after the start and had to be steadied when racing inside KHALEEQ , which was taken in by PETE'S BELLE. Commenced to overrace for a short distance leaving the 800m.
RACE 6: G&B STAINLESS BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 2150m
KIRCHNER - Raced wide in the early stages. Jockey J. Byrne could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the mare today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
TARTAN WARRIOR – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which compounded in the home straight, revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily over 1000m in an official trial, and submit to stewards the results of an ECG prior to its next race start.
RACE 7: TRADELINK STAINLESS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1350m
CHIRICAHUA – A pre-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the near-side nostril after the gelding was fractious in the tie up stalls. The horse was subsequently cleared to start.
WORLD SERIES – Slow to begin.
REPO ZEST – Jockey T. Harrison was reprimanded for shifting in near the 800m when not fully clear of OUTBACK CARSON, resulting in that horse having to be steadied. As a consequence, WILD SANDS and STRENGTH, which were following, had to be steadied.
MAGNETIC STAR – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
STRENGTH – Laid in for the majority of the home straight.
CASINOMAC – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Morrisey reported to stewards that it was now his intention to freshen up the filly before resuming in races over a shorter distance.
RACE 8: REMAC 1 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1666M
ETAIN – Steadied when tightened for room at the start.
HANGOVER TOO – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and for a short distance in the home straight and was obliged to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running.
MR PENNYPACKER – Held up rounding the home turn and shifted back to the inside to obtain clear running.
CHANGE OF LUCK – Stewards questioned apprentice A. Hearn regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, which was ridden forward and led in today's race, which was in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. Apprentice Hearn stated that his instructions were to be aggressive out of the gates and obtain the lead, instructions which he was able to carry out. Trainer M. Renehan confirmed that the instructions were to go forward, which has always been his instructions in the short time the horse has been at his stable. He added that at the gelding's most recent start after positioning forward early, CHANGE OF LUCK settled further back than he anticipated as a result of drawing wide on that occasion. Mr Renehan was of the view that as his instructions had not differed today to its previous start he did not believe today's instructions to be change of tactics. Stewards reminded Mr Renehan of his obligations that if the horse settles further back at its next start he would be obliged to advise stewards of such change.
INTERIM APPROVAL – Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale he dropped his whip rounding the home turn.
TREASURES SECRET – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 100m.
CARTON – Lost its off hind plate in running.
