GENERAL
Due to the cancellation of interstate events, Races 7 and 8 were rescheduled to start at 4.41 pm and 5.20 pm respectively.
RACE 1: BENDWORX STEELPRO RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 800M
SOUND THE HORN – As the gelding had not started for some considerable time, the horse underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
I AM MCLOVIN – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. A. Taylor was fined $200 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
FIBRO – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the horse's performance, apprentice T. Wolfgram stated that after beginning well the gelding failed to muster any early speed and was unbalanced for a short distance before finding a rhythm where the horse then commenced to travel during the race and he was satisfied with the way in which the horse found the line.
SOCIETY QUEEN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
SIR GALLEN – As the gelding had not started for some considerable time, the horse underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.
RACE 2: ALLIED COATING SERVICES CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1680M
FIFTH COLUMN – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
HANGOVER TOO – Slow to begin.
ALFIE JUNIOR –Kicked by another runner behind the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the horse's disappointing performance, jockey S. Galloway stated that after being very fractious during its preliminary and behind the barriers the gelding began awkwardly and for this reason he was unable to ride the horse in a forward position. He added that he placed the horse under pressure leaving the 600m, however it failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of heat stress.
RACE 3: Q ROOFING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1010M
DAGGA BOY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
KING RED – Commenced to overrace leaving the 700m and hung out across the heels of other runners, having to be checked.
LIVE FAST – Began very awkwardly and shifted out. Improved onto heels near the 400m and had to be steadied. Forced wider near the 150m. When questioned regarding the horse's performance, L. Rolls stated that it was his intention to ride the horse in a more forward manner, however after it began awkwardly he was obliged to ride the horse back in the field. He added that his momentum was impeded rounding the home turn and once switched to the outside, the horse found the line well. Stewards noted his explanation. Lost its near fore plate in running.
SUAVE CAT – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the near hind leg.
MORNING FOG – Apprentice T. Wolfgram was fined $100 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
SNITZEL'S JOY – Forced wider near the 150m.
HEART OF TIER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto heels near the 600m and had to be checked. Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 150m, forcing other runners wider.
STELLAR KNIGHT - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
RACE 4: KIS BM75 H’CAP – 1200M
REMAGEN BRIDGE – Apprentice T. Brooker was fined $200 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
KNIGHT TEMPLAR – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
STORM CRAZY – S. Bogenhuber was reprimanded for using the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
ITCHINTOWIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off hind leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided before the horse is permitted to race again.
RED HOT DAZZLER – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the horse's disappointing performance, apprentice S. Fawke stated that after being slow to begin, the horse raced flat throughout and never responded to his riding at any stage and was disappointing. Trainer D. Bell stated that in his opinion the horse is looking for races over a longer distance than today's event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a mild case of the thumps.
SUBSTATION – Hung out in the middle stages.
RACE 5: POCOCK LOGGING & SCHRODER HAULAGE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
MOUNTAIN MAN – Apprentice N. Faithfull was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
MYSTICAL MOSS – Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Raced greenly throughout.
NO MORE CUDDLES – Began awkwardly. D. McIntosh was cautioned for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
STORM ANCHOR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
SKYLAR'S STAR – Commenced to race ungenerously for a short distance when being restrained near the 1000m.
RACE 6: MUCKERTS SAWMILL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
KNIGHT ERRANT – Momentarily tightened for room shortly after the start. Apprentice B. Ainsworth was fined $100 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
FLAMBE – Laid out rounding the home turn, allowing POMPEII FLYER to improve to its inside, and then continued to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
CHANGE OF LUCK – Began awkwardly.
RACE 7: MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM ITC F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 for the late declaration of J. Stanley as the rider of SHE'S WORTHY.
FIFTEEN LOVE – Shifted out at the 300m, making contact with SHE'S WORTHY. Rider A. Spinks was advised to exercise more care.
MISS INTERIORS – Worked strongly during its preliminary, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. When questioned regarding the horse's disappointing performance, rider R. Goltz stated that the mare never travelled throughout the event and he felt that something may have been amiss and for this reason he did not place the horse under any real pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the offside stifle and the inside of its offside hock as well as a slow recovery rate.
WESTERN DESERT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had a torn off fore tendon. Trainer N. Stewart advised stewards that the horse would now be retired from racing. Nonetheless, Mr Stewart was advised that a full veterinary clearance must be provided should the horse race again.
AIR DIAMOND – When questioned regarding her tactics when leading, in particular, the reason why she did not cross to the fence, rider A. Taylor stated that on previous occasions when she has ridden the mare and crossed to the fence, it has had a tendency to hang in, becoming awkward on the rail, and as it was her opinion that the horse would travel more comfortably racing one off the fence, she rode the mare accordingly. Stewards noted her explanation. A. Taylor was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
RACE 8: CHANNEL 7 C,G&E CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
SAGAMAMA – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the horse's performance, rider J. Stanley stated that his mount raced greenly in the early and middle stages and rounding the home turn became unbalanced. He added that after being placed under pressure and shifting out and obtaining clear running in the home straight, the horse found the line strongly.
LINE BREAKER – J. Morris reported to stewards that it was not his intention to ride the horse in a forward manner, however after beginning well from the outside barrier, the horse improved forward of its own accord and raced outside the leader.
DELNIELLO – Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Trainer K. Martin was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding before it is permitted to race again.
MOUNT PERRY – Slow to begin.
