Race 1: EVERYTHING CABINETS QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1100M

FALVELINO – N. Tomizawa was questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance. He explained that the gelding travelled comfortably until he shifted three wide and applied pressure approaching the home turn and in his opinion the horse did not feel comfortable in its action in the early part of the home straight so when weakening he elected to ease the horse down.  Trainer T. Sears undertook to report to stewards in coming days anything that may explain today’s performance. Mr Sears was advised that FALVELINO would be required to compete satisfactorily in a barrier trial before racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, and a routine swab sample was taken.

BRAVE JEWEL – Inclined to hang out for some distance approaching and passing the 800m.

Race 2: T DWYER CARPENTRY CLASS 4 H’CAP – 800M

WHATEVER MISS – Held up rounding the home turn. Trainer B. Hudson was questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance. Mr Hudson explained that at its most recent start the horse was travelling very well but the saddle slipped approaching the home turn, which placed its rider on that occasion at a distinct disadvantage. He added that WHATEVER MISS has always raced well at Ipswich and he was not surprised that it was able to win convincingly today.

BRILLIANT DIVA – Taken wider on the home turn by another runner.

Race 3: MUCKERTS SAWMILL F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

JOMAR SAGA – Slow to begin. Unable to secure clear running approaching and rounding the home turn and again had to be steadied near the 250m when awkwardly placed at the heels of BUBBA ROCKER.

KANUI – P. Hammersley explained at scale that he could offer no tangible explanation for the horse’s poor performance. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that KANUI would be required to compete satisfactorily in a barrier trial before racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, and a routine swab sample was taken.

TONY’S PRINCESS – Due to transport difficulties, J. Morris was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement and was subsequently replaced by B. Grylls.

SWISS LOVE – Mr B. Gordon, representative for trainer B. Laming, was questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance today as compared to its most recent starts. Mr Gordon explained that the horse was second up today and at its previous start it was obliged to race wide and hung out in the home straight, which placed its rider at a disadvantage. He added that the filly had blinkers, a lugging bit and bubble cheeker on the nearside today, which in his view was advantageous to its performance. He added that SWISS LOVE was well ridden today when able to lead and dictate the tempo of the race. His explanation was noted.

Race 4: BENDWORX STEEL PRO C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

JUSTIFY – Had to work hard in the early stages to the outside of EXCEED ALL ODDS and when J. Byrne attempted to restrain the horse it commenced to overrace and he was unable to take a sit at the girth of EXCEED ALL ODDS. J. Byrne was questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance. Jockey Byrne explained that he had to work hard in the early stages outside of EXCEED ALL ODDS, which was sharing the lead on the fence. J. Byrne added that he became concerned from the 500m when he was asking JUSTIFY to improve and it was failing to respond to his riding and in the home straight was disappointing when it weakened under pressure. Trainer T. Gollan’s stable representative, Mr S. Fields, advised that he was also disappointed with the performance and indicated that the stable will report anything that may come to light in coming days to explain today’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abnormal upper respiratory noise. The horse will require a veterinary clearance, together with the results of an endoscopic examination, before it races again.

Race 5: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES/HARMONY TAPS QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

AUSBRED TRUMP – When asked to explain the horse’s performance, R. Plumb stated that after being a little slow to begin the gelding refused to stretch out in the early stages despite his urgings and trailed the field by a significant distance. He added that he considered retiring the horse from the race but from the 600m it started to make steady ground and in the home straight closed the race off quite well. Stewards noted his explanation.

OSMOND – Raced three wide throughout. Severely hampered and taken wider near the 500m.

FLYING MAGIC – Slow to begin. Steadied near the 800m when tightened for room by TOBASCO, which shifted in and away from OSMOND.

TOBASCO – Became awkwardly placed at the heels of TROMMELSCHLAGEN near the 500m, shifted out and made heavy contact with OSMOND.

THE RIDGE – Had some difficulty securing clear running at the entrance to the home straight.

Race 6: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES/RHEEM MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M

BUSCHINSKI – Raced three wide.

ALPHA CENTAURI – Apprentice J. Murphy explained at scale that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout and when placed under pressure in the home straight proved difficult to ride. He added that he had recommended to connections that the horse may benefit from the addition of winkers in future starts.

ROSEBERY AFFAIR – Jumped awkwardly. Held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

SHADOW QUEEN – Slow to begin and then hampered soon after the start.

EVENING – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES GATTON CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M

ABERLADY – Hung out rounding the home turn and proved difficult to ride. Trainer D. Duryea was advised that a warning would be placed against the mare’s racing manners.

BRAX – Commenced to overrace when surrendering the lead near the 1000m, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail and then shifted out. Continued to overrace in the middle stages.

MONACO SNOB – Restrained in the early stages from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.

CAVIAR GIRL – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

TE RANGI – Pulled hard in the early stages and near the 900m had to be restrained from the heels of TEYVE and shifted out and raced wide for the remainder of the event.

Race 8: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES IPSWICH BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1700M

The track was downgraded to SOFT 5 prior to the running of this race following light rain falling.

SHARP SPEEDO – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey M. McGillivray stated that he was able to take up a rearward position as instructed, however, added that the mare was unable to finish the race off as expected due to the slow tempo.

KERMANDIE STAR – Slow to begin.

Following the running of this event, which was run in heavy rain, the track was downgraded further to SOFT 6 retrospective.
