Fradd explained that after racing in a rearward position for the majority of the event he was unable to improve after passing the 600 metres when BERNIE’S TIGER had improved to his outside and he was held up on the back of RATHER SALUBRIOUS. He further added that he was of the opinion that the gelding is one-paced and was unable to sprint once clear in the home straight and may appreciate being able to make its run earlier and a step up in distance may also be suitable for future starts. Trainer K. Hickmott advised Stewards he did not issue any specific instructions and agreed with the comments of rider R. Fradd, however was of the opinion that the gelding would have appreciated being put into the race earlier. When asked to comment on his vigour used over the final stages, rider R. Fradd explained he felt the gelding was labouring but doing its best. Stewards noted the explanations and reminded rider R. Fradd to fully test his mounts to the finish line.
