GENERAL
Due to current covid restrictions, Stewards permitted the following weight variations:
Race 4 – FAIRY DELL – M Hellyer (+1kg)

Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old
BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1666 metres
 
ILIKEIT ILOVEIT – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
HATS – Weakened over the concluding stages. Rider S Galloway reported the gelding felt fine in its action, however he was disappointed in its performance. Trainer J Wallace advised the gelding will now be sent for a spell.  A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
SEA RIPPLE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.
 
Race 2: MEMBERS & MATES RACEDAY Maiden Plate 2150 metres
 
BURN THE BOATS – Slow to begin. Leaving the 900m shifted out to improve and raced wide for the remainder.
 
DIAMOND BEANS – Performed below market expectations, jockey T Marshall reported that the gelding travelled well throughout however near the 600m failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
 
GENERAL ELLIOT – After being caught wide in the early stages restrained to a position at the rear of the field closer to the rail.
 
JAKK'S RIGHT (NZ) – Tightened between runners on jumping. Near the 1400m whilst over-racing jockey R Fradd elected to shift three wide due to the moderate tempo and stride forward.
 
POWER PUNCH (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m shifted out to improve and raced wide for the remainder.
 
ROYAL GEORGE – Change of Tactics - Trainer L Gersekowski advised that the gelding will be ridden further forward circumstances permitting. Ridden accordingly. Raced three wide throughout.
 
SPIRITUAL – Began awkwardly.
 
THE RED DANCER – Restrained from heels near the 1400m when racing keenly.
 
DEEL OF FORTUNE – Near the 300m laid in and was steadied from the heels of THE RED DANCER. Continued to lay in for the remainder.
 
Race 3: OKTOBERFEST @ THE BARN 2 & 3 OCTOBER BENCHMARK 68
Handicap 800 metres
 
HALLSIDEHANKYPANKY – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running between the 200m and the 100m.
 
PATENTED – Buffeted between runners on jumping. Over the concluding stages steadied when improved onto heels.
 
SHINSHINTO – Rider C Bayliss lost the use of his nearside iron in the early stages, placing him at a disadvantage.
 
TRIP THE LIGHT – Began awkwardly.
 
SOCIAL - As the mare had not started in a race for over 12 months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Bumped on jumping. Jockey R Maloney reported the mare may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination identified a minor laceration to the off fore leg.
 
ASHZAYA – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 4: BEERS, BUBBLES & BRUNCH THIS SUNDAY Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
ASCOT EXPRESS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shortly after blundered when contacting the heels of RAFFALLI which shifted out.
 
BARONIAL – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced three wide with cover. Stewards question jockey B El-Issa in regards to the tactics adopted from the 600m until the early part of the straight. Jockey El-Issa stated that from the 600m he was tracking WORDS UNSPOKEN until a point near the 400m where he had improved to position inside the heels of that runner. He added that rounding the home turn NIC ME SOME, laid out and he was then obliged to race between runners until obtaining clear running entering the home straight. He further added that BARONIAL only finished the race of fairly. Trainer K Fogden expressed her disappointment in the geldings performance and advised that she will have the horse scoped and undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent which may have had an effect on the horses performance in the days subsequent to the event.
 
FRAZZLED – From the wide barrier was restrained to a position at the rear of the field closer to the rail.
 
RAFFALLI – Began awkwardly
 
MY SHAMANA – Near the 900m raced in restricted room.
 
NIC ME SOME – Laid out round the home turn.
 
WORDS UNSPOKEN – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Lost an off hind plate in running.
 
FAIRY DELL – Began awkwardly.
 
ANGELIC ARCHER - From the wide barrier was restrained to a position at the rear of the field closer to the rail.
 
Race 5: ITC MEMBERSHIP NOW OPEN Class 4 Handicap 1350 metres
 
XANTHUS – Bumped on jumping. Near the 900m improved onto heels of PARKO and had to be steadied.
 
RUSSIAN ROMEO – Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Approaching the 1000m whilst over-racing was placed in restricted room to the inside of WAKE UP VICTA which shifted in marginally. Near the 450m laid out and bumped with WAKE UP VICTA.
 
WAKE UP VICTA – Began awkwardly. Near the 450m whilst laying out was bumped by RUSSIAN ROMEO. Jockey M GRAY was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for use of the whip on consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 6: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Class 1 Plate 1200 metres
 
The start was delayed when AVOLONTE reared and became cast and as a result the filly underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:05pm. All monies invested on AVOLONTE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4:05pm

Trainer S Kendrick was advised that the filly would be required to obtain another barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
Jockey K Wilson-Taylor was assessed by the QAS and was cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.
 
DOCTOR TEEKAY – Began awkwardly.
 
HAPPY BABE – Bumped shortly after jumping.
 
MONTE SANTO – After being kicked by AVOLONTE which had reared and became cast as a result underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Bumped shortly after jumping.
 
KUSAMA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
LOLAROSIE – Slow to begin.
 
COLLAY'S SPIRIT (NZ) – Bumped rounding the home turn.
 
HERTZKA – Stood flat footed and lost ground.
 
Race 7: IPSWICH EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE BENCHMARK 70
Handicap 1666 metres
 
After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, L Tilley, the rider of GOTTA BE FIRST, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against DESTINY’S OWN being placed 1st, alleging interference near the 400m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that rounding the home turn GOTTA BE FIRST was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of DESTINY’S OWN which shifted out to improved. As Stewards could not be satisfied that the extent of the interference to GOTTA BE FIRST was greater than the margin separating both runners at the finish, they dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. Apprentice A Jones was reprimanded under AR131(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear.
 
CONQUER THE STARS – Began awkwardly. Apprentice M Castle was fined $300 for use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, which is 1 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

DESTINY'S OWN – Tightened between runners on jumping.
 
GENUINE AL (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m was placed in restricted room to the inside of CLASS OF ROYALTY.
 
CLASS OF ROYALTY – Raced three wide throughout.

TREASURE OF GOLD – Held up for clear running in the home straight.
 
HARMONY NATION – Bumped on the hind quarters on jumping.
 
CELTIC TIGER (NZ) – Slow to begin. Near the 1400m raced in restricted room to the inside HARMONY NATION which was taken in by CLASS OF RAOYALTY and as a result Jockey L Dittman was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident.
 
Race 8: MELBOURNE CUP TIX ON SALE NOW RATINGS BAND 0 - 58
Handicap 1666 metres
 
The start was delayed when GET ON BOARD became fractious in the barriers reared and as a result underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.
 
BENT BENNY – Over-raced in the early and middle. Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider.
 
GRAND SHANGHAI - Rider J Baylis reported concerns with the horse’s action rounding the home turn and eased the gelding down for the remainder of the straight. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormal findings. Trainer L Gough was notified that GRAND SHANGHAI will be required to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to the horse racing again.
 
MINOR LUCK – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Forced wider rounding the home turn.
 
WHILE WE CAN – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
BRACKEN – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
DUBLE GAZE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced throughout. Held up for clear running from approaching the home turn to a point near the 100m.
 
GRATSIE – Tightened on jumping.

DAYTONA DANICA – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and the early part of the home straight.
 
STELLAR WAY – Began awkwardly.
