Race 3: RIVER 949FM Maiden Handicap 1200 metres

Stewards prior to this event had monitored the Bureau of Meteorology website and Energex Lightning Tracker and were satisfied that storm activity in the area was sufficiently distanced from the course to allow this event to proceed. However, whilst runners were being loaded into the barriers for this event, heavy rain began to fall and lightning strikes occurred in the vicinity.

HALLSIDE MARTINI was unable to be loaded into the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 2.13pm. Shortly after the withdrawal of HALLSIDE MARTINI the barriers opened due to a malfunction caused by the lightning in the area, this resulted in OUR ROCKETMAN and ASTUTE both jumping from the barriers, causing S Thornton to be dislodged from OUR ROCKETMAN and both horses galloping a lap of the course. Both horses were scratched by order of stewards at 2.13pm. The remaining runners were then ordered to return to the enclosure. Following a significant delay and continued heavy rainfall Stewards inspected the track and deemed it unfit for racing, postponing the remainder of the meeting at 2:45pm.
