Prior to race 1, the track was upgraded to a heavy 8.

Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Maiden Handicap 1666 metres

MASTER TYLER (NZ) – Jockey M Harley reported that after settling in a favourable position, his mount failed to run on as anticipated and was of the view that the gelding may not have appreciated the step up in distance.

METAVERSE – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.

SHORES OF GOLD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over raced early. Approaching the 400m, momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of ROGER EXPRESS.

READY SET ROLL – Checked near the 1200m and lost ground. Jockey R Jamieson, the rider of GODRA, pleaded guilty to AR131(a) in that near the 1200m, she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHAYSE ‘N’ STORMS, which resulted in that runner being forced inwards and onto READY SET ROLL which was checked. The licence of R Jamieson to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 9th of December and to expire midnight the 16th of December.

GODRA – Tightened between runners leaving the 600m when SHORES OF GOLD shifted out. Laid in rounding the home turn.

ROGER EXPRESS (NZ) – Over raced early. Approaching the 400m, awkwardly placed at the heels of the tiring BEYONDTASTIC and shifted out.

BEYONDTASTIC – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer N Hemmings was advised that in light of today’s performance, the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next racing.

CHAYSE 'N' STORMS – Tightened and carried inwards near the 1200m. Held up rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of BEYONDTASTIC. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, stable representative Ms M Kelly advised that the geldings first up run from a spell at the Gold Coast in the opinion of the stable was good and therefore second up from a spell had expected a forward showing on that occasion. Ms Kelly therefore advised that the stable was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance on that occasion, however based on the horse’s first up run, combined with its subsequent track work since its second up run, they had expected a far improved performance in today’s event particularly when racing up in distance. Stewards noted the explanation.

MASTER OF MENACE (NZ) – Slow to begin.

SLICK HEELS – Bumped on several occasions shortly after the start.

Race 2: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES OPEN Handicap 1200 metres

MORT DOYLE – Raced wide throughout.

DRAGON MISS – Laid out rounding the home turn.

Following the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a soft 7.

Race 3: 85 TROOP Maiden Handicap 1200 metres

VIKING FOREVER – Forced inwards and eased near the 1000m.

GREYLANDER – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice A Jones reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MR LANNIGAN– A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to have sustained minor abrasions to both hind bumpers.

BIG ROCAS (NZ) – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Over raced during the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Tightened for room and checked near the 1000m. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey M Hellyer the rider of DARKENED DESTINY was found to be guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that as the rider of that gelding, he permitted it to shift in when insufficiently clear of VIKING FOREVER, resulting in that runner being taken in causing, BIG ROCAS to be tightened for room and checked. The licence of M Hellyer to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight the 11th of December and to expire midnight the 19th of December.

COPPERCHINO – When asked to comment in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer T Churchill advised that the geldings best form previously was when racing first up from a spell, and for that reason in addition to the horses recent Beaudesert jump out win, she had expected a forward showing in today’s event.

Race 4: OSS Maiden Handicap 1200 metres

SINNAMON TOAST – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m, momentarily steadied after improving onto the heels of BENEDICT ARNOLD. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MR CICCOLINA – Raced three-wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CAPITAL GIRL – Raced three-wide with cover for the majority,

GLIDE ON BY – Hampered on jumping.

LEISURE GAMES – Near the 200m, momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of MR CICCOLINA which shifted in.

Race 5: SCHULZ'S WHOLESALE MEATS Class 1 Handicap 800 metres

This race was significantly delayed in order to recapture a horse that had broken lose in the float carpark and had made its way to the 600m mark outside the course proper.

LADY CUMBERLAND – Declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 1:50pm.

THE POWER OF ONE – Approaching the home turn, laid in and across the heels of BONGANI.

IGBO –Began awkwardly.

POCKETROCKET – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being kicked in the mounting yard and was passed fit to start. Slow to begin.

Race 6: EDDIES CHRISTMAS QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1100 metres

CLOVER'S PRINCE – Bumped heavily on jumping when DASHING GEE GEE began awkwardly and shifted in. Jockey M Harley reported that the gelding hung throughout the event and in his opinion felt short in its action and desisted from pressuring his mount in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. In light of today’s performance, trainer T Edmonds was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next racing, however should any abnormality become present in the days following today’s event which may have affected it’s performance, upon receipt of a veterinary certificate, stewards would reconsider the embargo placed on the gelding.

DASHING GEE GEE – Began awkwardly shifting in.

CRAIGLEA LA VIE – Began very awkwardly and as a result, lost ground.

Following the running of race 6, the track was upgraded to a soft 6.

Race 7: TAB Class 2 Handicap 1500 metres

BEDFORD SQUARE (NZ) – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J Orman stated that in his opinion the mare would take benefit from today’s run and also indicated that in his opinion it would be best suited to distances further than today’s event. Trainer J Bruce, whilst satisfied with the mare’s performance, indicated that it would now be his intention to step the mare up in distance. A swab sample was taken.

PEREGRINATION – Slow to begin. Approaching the 700m, momentarily raced in restricted room between GREYT INTENTIONS and TUHINGA, and was hampered.

SCENIC RIM – Began awkwardly.

POET'S DAY – As the gelding escaped its handler when being unloaded from the float, was examined by the veterinary surgeon after being recaptured and passed fit to start.

JIMMY NEUTRON – Bumped on jumping.

GREYT INTENTIONS – Over raced in the early stages.

Race 8: IPSWICH EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1666 metres

SPIRIT'S CHARM – Very slow to begin. Trainer D Groves was of the opinion that the mare may be resenting the cross over noseband and it would be his likely intention to remove that gear prior to next start with the expectation that it will begin better in the future. Held up approaching the home turn.

ABOVE THE LOT – Momentarily held up approaching the home turn at the heels of the tiring I’M HITCHIN’ BRO, before shifting nearer the rail to secure clear running. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J Byrne said the mare never travelled throughout and when placed under pressure, failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
