SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Beaudesert 13.2.22

Stewards today conducted an inquiry in relation to Jockey Josh Adams’ actions in relation to his whip use as the rider of TOP BIRD in Heat 4 of the Gold Coast Barrier Trials on 31.01.23.

Stewards after taking evidence from Jockey Adams subsequently found him guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR228(b), which reads;

A person must not engage in:

(b) misconduct, improper conduct, or unseemly behaviour.

The particulars of the charge being, that Jockey Adams as the rider of TOP BIRD, in Heat 4 of the Gold Coast official Barrier Trials on 31.01.23 did engage in improper conduct by altering his whip action at a point approaching the 200m in an attempt to deliberately strike or impede TAVISAN, resulting in TAVISAN throwing its head in the air as a consequence of Jockey Adams’ action.

Jockey Adams’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 weeks with the period of suspension to commence at midnight Sunday 19.02.23 and to expire at midnight Sunday 19.03.23.

In assessing penalty Stewards considered the possible safety ramifications Jockey Adams’ actions presented to both himself, Jockey Mallyon, the rider of TAVISAN, and both horses in the trial. Stewards further noted the potential for this incident to have a negative impact on the image of racing.
