GENERAL
Stewards inquired into the circumstances around jockey R. Jamieson being dually engaged on two runners in race 6. After considering the circumstances, and her clean record in relation to this rule, jockey Jamieson was reprimanded pursuant to AR127(1).
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 800 Metres
FEMME FATALE – Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Orman stated the filly was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and failed to run on as expected. A post race veterinary examination revealed FEMME FATALE to be displaying a slow recovery.
TOUTE SWEET – Approaching the winning post, laid in and steadied from the heels of CHAKRA BOY.
FIND YOUR OWN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: CONTRACT CHEFS AUSTRALIA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1690 Metres
UNITED FRONT – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1400m, steadied from the heels of ENTERPRISE FUSE, when that horse steadied in front.
SLAVA IOLA MYIOLIO – Began awkwardly and was bumped by THE GARF, which was tightened and taken in by LUCIFER THE CAT, which jumped in.
LUCIFER THE CAT – Jumped in at the start.
THE GARF – Bumped on jumping.
NASSAU COUNTY – Raced wide during the early stages before being allowed to stride to take up a position outside the leader passing the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
DELORME – Near the 1350m, steadied when tightened by SLAVA IOLA MYIOLIO, (J. Taylor), which shifted in before being corrected. Jockey J. Taylor was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
Race 3: BLONDIES POWDER COATING MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
After the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a Soft (5).
PRADO – Near the 1000m, raced ungenerously and despite the efforts of rider J. Huxtable, attempted to take running to the inside of SUKKARY where there was insufficient room. Consequently, PRADO was severely checked. Made the home turn awkwardly when racing wide.
WHAT A WEEKEND – Bumped on jumping.
REEL GRACEFUL – Began awkwardly.
MISS ANACHEEVA – Bumped on jumping.
OH WHAT A GEM – Held up for clear running passing the 500m until the 200m.
Race 4: SAMMUT BULOW CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
STAR GAMBLE – Raced keenly during the early stages.
JUST SUPER – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, App C. Graham reported she was asked to be more positive in the smaller field, sitting just behind the leader. She said she niggled her mount on leaving the gates, and when she attempted to allow other runners to press forward, JUST SUPER commenced to race keenly and she was then obligated to lead.
ALMIGHTY RISING – Raced keenly during the early stages. Rider M. Cahill reported the gelding would be better suited to a race with a more even tempo and he was not overly disappointed with the performance today.
Race 5: TAB CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
Following the running of race 4, the track was upgraded to a Good (4).
FENTON – Jockey J. Guthman-Chester reported from the wide draw, he was hoping to be midfield but after beginning well and being caught wide, he was obligated to press forward and lead.
FLOP TURN RIVER – Began awkwardly.
THE POWER OF ONE – As M. Murphy was not riding for personal reasons, he was replaced by jockey S. Cormack. Bumped and lost ground.
BULLET FORCE – Raced wide throughout. Near the 500m, was inconvenienced by TRAITOR’S GATE, which rolled out slightly when close to the heels of TERESHKOVA. When questioned, jockey D. Thornton explained it was his intention to be in a handy position however, when it was clear from the wide draw he was unable to be forward, he elected to steady and try and find cover. He added that FLOP TURN RIVER improved quickly to his inside obligating him to then race wide without cover throughout in a rearward position.
TERESHKOVA – Shifted in and bumped THE POWER OF ONE.
Race 6: SIRROMET BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 800 Metres
BARONESSA – Began awkwardly, contacting the outside barrier partition. Raced wide throughout.
NEVER PAID – Slow to muster speed on jumping.
SEQUESAY – Began awkwardly and bumped with PIANIST.
PIANIST – Began awkwardly and bumped with SEQUESAY.
ELKA ELEVEN – As the mare had not raced for a significant period of time, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.
SHIPS AHOY – Jockey A. Spinks reported the gelding laid out in the home straight.
Race 7: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1690 Metres
ENCOMPASS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DUNZOOMING – Raced keen in the early stages.
WEST CORK – Began awkwardly. Raced keen in the early stages. Jockey N. Evans was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m.
TOOLATEMATE – Raced wide without cover from the 900m.
JESTER STATEMENT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Race 8: RAY WHITE IPSWICH BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
SURIN BEACH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
JERONIMOS (NZ) - Slow to begin.
STAR SEEKER – Apprentice J. Williams was fined $700 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m. In considering penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, the whip penalty guidelines and his poor record in relation to this rule. (13th occasion in the last 6 months).
SIR PICCOLO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 9: GREAT NORTHERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
THE GOLDEN SOUL – Raced wide throughout.
CRAZY EYED FRED – Jockey M. Hellyer reported his mount laid out for the majority.
ARCHER'S GAME – Apprentice E. Lang was fined $400 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted and two of which were consecutive. In considering penalty, account was taken of her guilty plea, the whip penalty guidelines and her record.
TOP BABE (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
PARISIAN LADY – Approaching the 1000m, steadied to avoid the heels of ARCHER’S GAME. Approaching the 50m shifted in slightly to avoid the heels of ARCHER’S GAME.
STRIKE THE NIGHT – Raced wide throughout.
CANNON HILL – Held up for clear running in the home straight.
