GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight –
 
Race 1: D. Smith +1kg (55kg)
 
As Apprentice J. Molloy and was unable to attend the meeting due to illness, replacements were made as per the race day summary. Apprentice J. Molloy was advised he would need to produce a medical prior to his next engagements.
 
Race 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP   800 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey A. Jones, the rider of the second placed RHUMB LINE against ACCELAR (C. Graham) being declared the winner, alleging interference approaching the 200m. Stewards after hearing evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage, found that near the 200m, Jockey A. Jones the rider of  RHUMB LINE  was obliged to stop riding her mount and shift across the heels of ACCELAR, which laid in, in order to obtain clear running. Stewards, when considering all circumstances, were satisfied that the interference suffered by RHUMB LINE was greater than the nose margin, and therefore upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers 4-5-1-6. 
 
MISHANI STORM – Raced wide throughout.
 
RHUMB LINE – Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 200m, was obliged to steady from the heels of ACCELAR, which shifted in, resulting in RHUMB LINE having to shift wider to obtain clear running.
 
ACCELAR – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when racing greenly near the 200m.
 
ASTIN LANE – Began awkwardly. Jockey R. Dolan reported that ASTIN LANE laid in near the 400m, making contact with the running rail and becoming unbalanced. Laid in during the early part of the home straight before being obliged to shift wider near the 150m to gain clear running. Continued to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
INVADING JILLY – Slow to begin. Lost its off-hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 2: IMPERIAL RACING COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE   1200 M
 
The start of this event was delayed after COMMANDORO became fractious in the barriers, and as a result underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. BETTER BE SLICK was then momentarily removed from the barriers and reloaded, after the gelding became awkward in the way in which it was standing in the barriers. 
 
JOHNNY UTAH – Bumped with COMMANDORO at the start.
 
NATIONAL INTEREST – Made contact with the inside barrier partition on jumping and as a result was slow to begin. Near the 100m, bumped with BETTER BE SLICK and shifted wider.
 
BETTER BE SLICK – Slow to begin. Near the 100m, when racing greenly shifted out, making contact with NATIONAL INTEREST.
 
COMMANDORO – Bumped with JOHNNY UTAH at the start. Ran wide approaching the home turn before being corrected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from the one nostril and to be displaying clinical signs of heat stress. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that prior to racing again, COMMANDOROwould be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward.
 
LABARNA – Bumped with ROCKINAHARDPLACE at the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
ROCKINAHARDPLACE – Bumped with LABARNA at the start. Jockey S. Collett reported that her mount felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off-hind leg. Trainer K. Purdy was advised that ROCKINAHARDPLACE would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 3: SEVEN FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE      1200 M
 
HI JULES – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer B. Wakefield was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare in relation to its racing manners. Trainer B. Wakefield commented that it was his intention to change the mare’s gear.
 
STANAGE BAY – Began awkwardly.
 
ANTILLES – Slow to begin and then bumped with SARA PRONTA.
 
CASEBOLT – Approaching the 600m, when the pace slackened, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor allowed his mount to stride forward in an attempt to obtain a position closer to the lead.
 
TORERA – Bumped at the start. Raced wide during the early stages. Near the 300m, was bumped by HI JULES, which laid out and shortly thereafter was obliged to steady from its heels. Jockey S. Collett was reminded of her obligations to stop and straighten her mount when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
WINNING EDITION – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping TORERA. Near the 500m, raced in restricted room to the inside of CASEBOLT, and had to be steadied. When asked to comment on the performance of WINNING EDITION, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated that it was his intention to settle in a more forward position, however as the filly was first up, he elected not to improve approaching the 700m when the speed steadied, and shortly thereafter was disappointed for a run. Apprentice B. Wheeler further added that he was not overly disappointed with the filly’s performance in today’s event.
 
SARA PRONTA – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled bilaterally. As this was the first occasion, Trainer C. Allardyce was advised SARA PRONTA would not be permitted to start in a race for a period of 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards or trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
 
 
Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         800 M
 
FLAMING CONQUEST – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
GLOBAL CITIZEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 700m, shifted in when awkwardly placed on the heels of BECAUSE THE NIGHT. Lost its off-fore plate in running.
 
AL PAL'S GAL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
COSMIC SERENADE – Raced wide throughout.
 
BECAUSE THE NIGHT – Shortly after the start, blundered when racing between FLAMING CONQUEST, which laid out slightly and CAPITAL REIGN, which shifted in slightly before being corrected by its rider. Near the 200m was disappointed for a narrow run to the inside of FLAMING CONQUEST, which shifted in and thereafter had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
 
CABRINELLA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported at scale that CABRINELLA was inclined to hang in throughout.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CAMPAI - Raced wide throughout.
 
PIANIST – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 5: SCHWEPPES BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         1700 M
 
LEATHER JACKET LEW – Laid out rounding the home turn when placed under pressure.
 
JUPITUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in rounding the home turn, bumping with HOUSTON ROCKET and became unbalanced.
 
BASSAC LANE – Approaching the 450m, improved onto heels and put in an awkward stride and had to be steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be stepping short.
 
HOUSTON ROCKET – Rounding the home turn, when racing in restricted room to the outside of LEATHER JACKET LEW, which was laying out and tiring, was buffeted between runners.
 
KINETIC – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) – Began very awkwardly. Over-raced during the early stages.
 
 
Race 6: GORDON'S GIN CLASS 1 PLATE    1700 M
 
BLUE RAY - Bumped with PLEADEEL at the start.
 
NEW LEVEL (NZ) – Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Jockey J. Orman stated that NEW LEVEL (NZ) raced keenly during the early stages, however from the 600m, when asked for an effort, failed to respond and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MANNERHEIM – Bumped on jumping.
 
ROCK YA (NZ) – Hampered shortly after the start. Over-raced during the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 150m.
 
SAXON BRAVE – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. Raced very greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
PLEADEEL – Bumped with BLUE RAY at the start. Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 200m, shifted in and away from NEW LEVEL (NZ), which was laying in. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
 
LA SEULE – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the home turn, improved onto the heels of the tiring PER CAPITA (NZ) and was obliged to steady and shift out.
 
CHASSAGNE – Hampered shortly after the start when SAXON BRAVE shifted in.
 
 
 
Race 7: TAB CLASS 3 PLATE     1200 M
 
PIZARRO - Over-raced during the middle stages.
SPACE TRACKER (IRE) – Bumped with JOVITA on jumping and raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 50m.
 
TREPORTI –Began very awkwardly resulting in Apprentice B. Wheeler making heavy contact with the barrier partition with his right arm. Approaching the 1100m, steadied from the heels of AKEMI, which shifted in.
 
CARDONE – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition.
 
ORIENT'S SECRET – Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground. Near the 600m, was obliged to be steadied when over-racing.
 
JOVITA – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping SPACE TRACKER (IRE). Near the 250m, shifted out and brushed with I AM TAKINGTHELOT.
 
ONE 'N' ONLY – Began awkwardly.
 
DEEP FIRE – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide.
 
I AM TAKINGTHELOT – Began awkwardly and was bumped. Brushed near the 250m when JOVITA shifted out.
 
 
Race 8: FAMILY DAY RACES THIS MONDAY BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP       1350 M
 
BUTCH'N'BUGS – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200m.
 
DAMIANI – Near the 1000m, had to be steadied from heels momentarily and shifted out. Raced wide for the remainder of the event. Tired noticeably from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying sings of a slow recovery. Trainer G. Ryan was advised that the mare would now be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
SKYWRITER – Jockey R. Maloney reported at scale that his mount proved disappointing and felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stable representative B. Killion was advised that mare would now be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
PERSEVERE – Slow to begin and settled a significant distance from the main body of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to stepping short. Co- Trainer L. Peoples was advised that gelding would now be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
 
OUTBURST – Slow to begin. Trailed the field throughout at was uncompetitive. Jockey M. Harley reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding resented racing in blinkers for the first time. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer M. Lakey was advised that OUTBURST would require a veterinary clearance including the results of an ECG and must also barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
