SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Wednesday 7 May 2025 – Eagle Farm – Race 7
Trainer T. Gollan reported on returning to the stable and following a vet examination on Thursday 8 May 2025, DEVASTATING was found to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer T. Gollan was advised the gelding would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
GENERAL
Following a report from the QRIC Compliance Officers, Trainer J Sweeny was questioned regarding stable practices leading into today’s event, after taking evidence Stewards noted the explanation and subsequently I AIN’T NO CHICKEN (Race 4) underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was pre-race swabbed.
Race 1: TAB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M
MANPOWER – Shifted out at the start and then hampered. Commenced to over race leaving the 1000m. Continued to over race for some distance. Near the 900m, when over racing, steadied from the heels of NELSONS BAY which shifted in slightly before being corrected. Continued to over race for some distance and approaching the 800m, raced in restricted room between HARD AS BROK which laid out slightly and NELSONS BAY which shifted in slightly. Continued to race with its head in the air for some distance.
MEET GEORGE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CARBONARA – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
CLOSE TO THE EDGE – Bumped on jumping.
MISHA QUEEN – Began awkwardly. Stewards questioned Trainer A. Chau in relation to MISHA QUEEN being presented to race in visors which was not part of the approved gear for the filly. Trainer A. Chau pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting and racing in the incorrect gear was fined $200.
OUR GIRL SCARLETT – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and dislodged Apprentice C. Vitler. Apprentice C. Vitler was assessed by QAS officials and cleared to fulfill the remainder of his engagements following Race 2. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida was advised a warning would be placed on the filly for its barrier manners.
VALADORE – After the running of the race, it was noted the filly had lost its off hind plate.
Race 2: JOHN RYAN FREIGHT SERVICES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately three (3) minutes due to HONKYTONK HUSTLE requiring farrier attention behind the behind the barriers.
ASSATATE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival to the barriers after taking charge of the rider for a short distance and was subsequently cleared to start. Slow to muster early speed. Trainer J. Livingstone was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its pre-race manners.
DAY TO REMEMBER – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority.
MR PLAYTIME – As Apprentice C. Vitler was being assessed by QAS officials, he was replaced by Apprentice J. Williams.
FULLY SUBSCRIBED – Began awkwardly.
GREYT PERFORMER – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider. Raced wide for the majority.
HONKYTONK HUSTLE – Required farrier attention behind the barriers.
LEUCAENA – Raced wide for the majority.
Race 3: HILLS FENCING MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
WHISKEY GLASSES – Rounding the home turn was severely checked and hampered when tightened by BETTER DRAW (L Tarrant) which had improved into a tight run to inside of THE MESSIAH (M. Philpot) when that filly was taken in by PHOINEX STORM (J Taylor) which had laid in before being corrected. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination wand was cleared to race. Jockey L. Tarrant was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
JUSTAFEVER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to the 4YO mare having its first race start since a trial in 2023. Lost its near hind shoe which was unable to be re-plated pre-race. Permission was given by Stewards to remove the off hind plate and race bare behind. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LILY'S DASH – Began awkwardly.
MISS IMPRESSIVE – Raced wide for the majority. Raced greenly in the home straight.
DELIGHTED DEELER – Apprentice S. Champkin reported she had concerns with the filly’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be shin sore. Trainer I. Turner was advised DELIGHTED DEELER would require a Veterinary Clearance if DELIGHTED DEELER has a race within 6 weeks.
GALAXY SUNSET – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
Race 4: AMPAC FIRE DETECTION BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2150 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately two (2) minutes due to AROUND THE BUOY (NZ) undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming momentarily cast in the barriers and was subsequently cleared to start.
GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Tightened at the start when KENSHIN MARU shifted in.
FIREBOLT – Approaching the 200m, eased to avoid the heels of I AIN’T CHICKEN and lost its rightful running. Jockey J. Morris rider of I AIN’T CHICKEN pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) in that approaching the 200m, permitted his mount to when insufficiently clear resulting in FIRE BOLT (App J. Williams) having to ease to avoid the heels of I AIN’T CHICKEN and losing its rightful running. Jockey J. Morris’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) days, commencing midnight Saturday 17 May 2025, concluding midnight Saturday 24 May 2025. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and the QRIC Careless Riding Guidelines.
I AIN'T CHICKEN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.
JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced wide for the majority.
KAYLEEN'S PROFIT (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Jockey D. McGillivray reported the mare raced flat throughout the event.
KENSHIN MARU – Shifted in at the start tightening the running of GOT YOURSELF A GUN.
BRAVE DEEL – Began awkwardly. Apprentice C. Sutherland reported he had concerns with the gelding’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Patton was advised the gelding would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
CHERRY LIPS – Shifted out on jumping tightening the running of MAJESTIC ANGEL (NZ).
MAJESTIC ANGEL (NZ) – Tightened at the start when CHERRY LIPS shifted out and lost ground.
Race 5: NGU REAL ESTATE IPSWICH BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 800 M
KRAKARIB – Raced wide for the majority.
SONNY DAZE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised SONNY DAZE must not, without the permission of the Stewards, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognised training track, private training establishment, or other place; (b) must not start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
SHE OURS – Slow to begin.
INTRECCIATO – Slow to begin.
Race 6: JIM LIVINGSTONE FABRICATIONS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1666 M
BURLEIGH MAGIC – Began awkwardly.
IRON GRACE – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey G. Cartwright stated her mount travelled only fairly in the early and middle stages. She further added that rounding the home turn, the mare took a few awkward strides and for that reason she elected not to pressure her mount for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinical signs of cardiac arrythmia for the first time. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised IRON GRACE would require veterinary clearance inclusive of the satisfactory results of an electrocardiography (ECG) prior to a 1000m gallop or trial prior to resuming in a race.
ARISTELLA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
DARLING HEART – Raced wide from the middle stages.
Race 7: TRIDAN ELECTRICAL SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP 1350 M
TYCOONIST – Raced wide for the majority.
DON'T STOP – Blundered at the start. Raced wide for the majority.
ELLA TE AMA – Began awkwardly.
TONNEOFGRIT – Began awkwardly.
PATTON – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200m was steadied when awkward on the heels of FLASH AHH (B Thornton) which was taken out by WITHOUT REVENGE (L Dempsey) which shifted out. Jockey L. Dempsey was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
Race 8: WALKERS TURF SUPPLIES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350 M
MAJESTICS REQUEST – Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice S. Champkin reported her mount laid in.
MIGHTY JUDD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with the winning stalls in the enclosure and was subsequently cleared to start.
THREE GONGS –Slow to begin and then hampered. Held up rounding the home turn until the 200m and then shifted in before becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of MIGHTY JUDD and shifted out to obtain clear running. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted B Lerena explained after receiving interference early he settled further back than anticipated and did not have any luck throughout the race. When further questioned in particular to his riding near the 200m, Jockey B. Lerena stated when PRETTY LITTLE LASS (L Dempsey) had improved quicky in front of him he was obliged to shift to the inside of that mare in an attempt to gain clear running. Stewards noted the explanation tendered.
PLATINUM GIFT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
PRETTY LITTLE LASS – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced.
CLASSIQUE GAL – Carried out on jumping and inconvenienced.
STRUAN LAD – Slow to begin.
Race 9: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
KEEPMEINTHELOPE – Bumped at the start.
BACKSTAGE – Began awkwardly and bumped with KEEPMEINTHELOPE.
NOBLE DECREE (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
MORE FOR READY – Over raced for a short distance passing the 900m.
MUSIC FEVER – Raced wide for the majority.
WOOSH KA BOOM – Began awkwardly.
CARRAVILLA – Began awkwardly.
CHOSEN LEGEND – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 250m until approaching the 150m.
FLYWHEEL – Raced wide for the majority.
