GENERAL

As Jockey W. O’Connell was not riding due to injury and Apprentice C. Wells due to illness, Stewards permitted the rider change(s) as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Riders W. O’Connell and C. Wells were advised they would require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

Trainer M. Currie was questioned regarding the significant market movements of SUCCESSISMAGIC (Race 2). Trainer M. Currie indicated that at the gelding’s most recent start at Kilcoy, the stable had expected a good performance, however; after being forced to settle back in the field, the gelding was obliged to make a wide run and raced ungenerously. Trainer M. Currie further added, the gelding may have been unsuited to the tight turning Kilcoy track and that Apprentice B. Wheeler desisted from pressuring SUCCESSISMAGIC in the early part of the home straight when the gelding appeared to be out of contention. Trainer M. Currie stated that whilst SUCCESSISMAGIC had not had a trial or jumpout since its most recent start, it had undergone chiropractic treatment and had been working well. Mr Currie added that from a more favorable barrier today, he expects the gelding to race in a more forward position however did note he was unsure as to how the gelding may jump as it has not shown early speed in both of its previous starts. He also stated that SUCCESSISMAGIC should be better suited to a larger track and a step up in distance when also considering the gelding’s breeding. Mr Currie when questioned, confirmed that the gelding had been supported by his stable today and at its previous start at Kilcoy. Stewards interviewed Stable Foreman for Currie Racing Mr J. Leach regarding the gelding’s prior start and wagering. Jockey J. Huxtable confirmed the riding instructions. A pre-race sample was taken for analysis.
