GENERAL
 
Due to the extreme heat forecast, all races were brought forward and rescheduled to the below times and run in accordance with the QRIC extreme heat policy:
 
Race 1: 9:05am
Race 2: 9:35am
Race 3: 10:05am
Race 4: 10:35am
Race 5: 11:05am
Race 6: 11:35am
Race 7: 12:05am
 
As jockey R. Hutchings was not riding at today’s meeting for personal reasons and apprentice C. Krahnen was ill, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Apprentice Krahnen was advised that she would require a medical clearance prior to next riding.
 
Due to a Sky camera operator requiring the assistance of QAS just prior to the running of race 5, all runners were returned to the tie-up stalls and races 5-7 were all put back one time slot with the last race rescheduled to be run at 12:40pm.
 

RACE 1: TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP         1680m

QUARTZOPOLIS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was bumped.
 
PELLINOR – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 1500m. Approaching the 400m, bumped by WHATA SORT which laid in. Cast its off-hind plate in running.
 
LEICA LEMON – Began awkwardly.
 
WILDSPITZE – Apprentice J. McMurray advised his mount didn’t travel comfortably and when placed under pressure, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Co-Trainer M. Sears could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and advised she would have the gelding scoped and bloods taken on return to the stable and would report back to Stewards with the results.
 
GLAD I MET YOU – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped WHATA SORT.
 
WHATA SORT – Change of tactics; to be further forward if circumstances permit. Bumped at the start and was hampered and as a result settled at the rear of the field. Approaching the 800m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied. Laid in approaching the 400m and bumped PELLINOR.
 
FAR CRY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PARADISE AS USUAL – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 1500m. Near the 1400m, checked when tightened for room to the inside of PELLINOR (B. Lerena), which shifted in whilst racing greenly to the inside of GLAD I MET YOU. Jockey B. Lerena was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident. Near the 500m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
 
 
RACE 2: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 4 HANDICAP         1680m

The start of this race was delayed approximately 8 minutes initially when riders in the preliminary identified a dislodged plate from the previous race close to the inside running rail which was found by the ground staff. The start was further delayed when PRETTY RHO cast its near fore plate behind the barriers which required refitting. PRETTY RHO subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 1500m. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRETTY RHO – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide from the 700m. Approaching the 600m, attempted to savage GREAT ASPIRATIONS. Approaching the 400m, attempted to savage LISSARO. Trainer R. Chatterton was advised that the mare would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
 
WHISTLIN' RULER – Made the crossing awkwardly near the 1500m. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 

RACE 3: SEVEN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 800m

The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes when ALBION SQUARE became fractious in the barriers and cast for some period of time. The gelding was subsequently removed and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 10:08am. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ALBION SQUARE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st place SPARTUS – 0c the win, 3c the place
2nd place COINCIDE – 7c the place

Trainer B. Gentle was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain two consecutive barrier certificates prior to next racing.
 
KWAMI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
I'M LUCKY TWO – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after being delayed arriving on course due to transportation difficulties and was cleared to start.
 
COINCIDE – Slow to begin.
 
HOKUSAI – Began awkwardly.
 
 
RACE 4: GORDON'S GIN CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200m
 
BRUCKHEIMER – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from one nostril. Trainer A. Campton was advised that the gelding would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.
 
I'M ZAC – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Cast its off fore plate in running.
 
JEROME – Began awkwardly and then hampered shortly after the start. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SONIC ARROW – Began awkwardly.
 
DELORIS – Bumped on jumping.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Soft 6.
 

RACE 5: TEMPUS TWO FILLIES AND MARES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350m
 
TECHNA – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
WEXFORD MISS (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly whilst being restrained to obtain a position with cover near the 1000m. Near the 400m, bumped and became unbalanced when GOOD PHILLY shifted out.
 
ACE'S IN BLOOM (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near fore cannon.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Near the 400m, steadied and lost ground after being hampered by GOOD PHILLY.
 
GOOD PHILLY – Near the 400m, improved onto heels, shifted out and bumped with WEXFORD MISS and as a result became unbalanced, shifted back in and hampered ECHO HUNTER. Apprentice O. Kendal was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
LA PITTRICE – Approaching the 300m, bumped with TSUKINO. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have heat stress and subsequently received treatment by the oncourse veterinarian.
 
TSUKINO – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PRETTY LITTLE LASS. Approaching the 300m, bumped with LA PITTRICE. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRETTY LITTLE LASS – Bumped on jumping.
 
TRUCK STOP HONEY – Began awkwardly.
 
SAKURA MAGIC (NZ) – Placed under pressure from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have heat stress and subsequently received treatment by the oncourse veterinarian.
 

RACE 6: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE 1350m
 
ENIDZEL – Near the 1200m, inconvenienced and taken wider by MONAROMA. Raced wide throughout.
 
LAAN – Began awkwardly and bumped. Leaving the 1000m, momentarily steadied from the heels of SUBTERRAIN (R. Maloney) which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey R. Maloney was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
MEADOWBROOK (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
MONAROMA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
VICTOIRE D'AMOUR – Bumped on jumping.
 
VAN DE BAN – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
 

RACE 7: MAGIC MILLIONS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350m

The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes when HAKATERE became fractious in the barriers and cast for some period of time. The gelding was subsequently removed and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:41pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on HAKATERE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st place CLUBHOUSE – 7c the win, 7c the place
2nd place KRUMAC – 6c the place
3rd place BEE EXACT – 11c the place
 
Trainer representative for M. Freedman was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain two consecutive barrier certificates prior to next racing.
 
FUTURE SOLDIER – Near the 400m, shifted out to improve and bumped with SWITCHBLADE.
 
QUEST OF QUESTS – Began awkwardly and bumped. Momentarily crowded leaving the 100m.
 
CLUBHOUSE – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced ungenerously approaching the 800m. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KEEP IT LOKI – Began awkwardly. Laid in leaving the 100m, having to be corrected by its rider to avoid the inside running rail. Apprentice J. McMurray advised the gelding hung in throughout.
 
SWITCHBLADE – Raced wide from leaving the 700m. Bumped by FUTURE SOLDIER near the 400m.
 
FLYING ROTHE – Raced keenly whilst being restrained near the 1200m. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels near the 1100m.
 
BEE EXACT – Bumped on jumping.
 
KRUMAC – Slow into stride.
