SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight(s) –
Race 3 – M. Palmer +0.5 kg (56.5kg)
Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5 at 12:30pm.
RACE 1: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1700 M
ELROND - Began awkwardly and shifted out.
PARISIENNE PIPER - Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination, which revealed no significant findings.
LA GRACIA (NZ) – Rider H. Van Der Hoven, reported his mount laid out when put under the pressure at the 600 meters.
POWER REECE – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced.
DIVINE DI – Near the 200m disappointed for a run and was inconvenienced when ELROND (C. Bellamy) shifted out and LA GRACIA (H. Van Der Hoven) shifted in. Both riders (C. Bellamy and H. Van Der Hoven) were advised to show greater care and stop and straighten their mounts in future circumstances.
HAPPY COFFEE – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination, which revealed minor lacerations to its near hind, consistent with speedy cutting.
PHYLISS – Over raced throughout.
RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1350 M
GELATIN – Slow to begin.
GAMBINO – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up over the concluding stages. Rider C. Collis was asked to comment on the tactics adopted in today’s event. Jockey C. Collis stated that after beginning poorly he was obliged to settle further back than intended. Near the 600m, attempted to shift the runner to his outside (BURLEIGH MAGIC), wider, which was unsuccessful. Approaching the home turn when trailing RAMPTANT LION (K. Wilson-Taylor), which commenced to shift out, rider C. Collis then elected to improve to its inside. Leaving the 200m RAMPANT LION then shifted in, resulting in GAMBINO being awkwardly placed on that runners heels and was then obliged to steady. Stewards, when considering C. Collis’ explanation noted his comments.
BURLEIGH MAGIC – Required farrier attention to its off-hind plate prior to entering the mounting yard. Subsequently underwent a veterinary examination prior to the running of the event and was passed suitable to start.
RAMPANT LION – Inclined to shift out, in the early part of the home straight, before momentarily shifting in, near the 200m.
SMART SHAZZA – Rider R. Maloney reported the mare began better than expected and allowed his mount to stride forward, and when no pressure was applied he elected to hold the lead.
HELL OF A LAD – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.
CHAMPAGNE ROUGE – Held up over the concluding stages.
RACE 3: GORDON'S GIN QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M
GALACTIC STAR – Shifted out on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
PORELAIN PRINCE – Hampered on jumping. Near the 900m raced in restricted room.
MISHANI INFINITY – Raced wide throughout.
CRASH THE PARTY – Hampered on jumping. Near the 900m, after improving to the inside of TAPAGAL, brushed the running rail. Held up rounding the home turn until the 200m.
SUPER JOHNNY JOYA – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the middle stages.
TAPAGAL – Hampered on jumping. Near the 900m raced in restricted room and was steadied. Held up rounding the home turn and had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
RACE 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M
LET'S GET BUSY – Began awkwardly. Trailed throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer M. Hemmings was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before resuming.
CARDONETTE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 600m was obliged to steady when awkwardly placed on the heels of OUR GIRL SCARLETT, when the pace slackened. When asked to comment on the fillies performance, rider B. Thompson stated that despite being unsuited by the tempo of the race, he was slightly disappointed with the fillies finishing effort.
YOUMEANDDUPRE – Began awkwardly.
MILDURA LAD –Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn, before continuing to hang out for the entirety of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer H. Norman was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to resuming.
LEBANESE – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Approaching the 600m over raced when the pace slackened, before momentarily racing in restricted room between MILDURA LAD and CARDONETTE which shifted out before being corrected.
ELUSIVE DOMINA – Raced greenly in the early stages when attempting to restrain for cover, before being permitted to stride forward by its rider. Raced wide throughout.
OUR GIRL SCARLETT – Leaving the 700m steadied when crossed by YOUMEANDDUPRE.
HEART 'N' POWER –Began awkwardly and lost ground.
BLUEY'S CHOICE – Raced wide.
RACE 5: THE DON MOORE MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M
The start of the race was delayed approximately 4 minutes due to monitoring storm activity in the area.
Stewards inquired in to an incident near the 1000m. After taking evidence from T Brooker (GUNNIE GUNFIGHTER), G. Cartwright (MEDIA BRIEF), App. J McMurray (HELLARIOUS), A. Mallyon (CELTIC BRAVE) and A. Jones (EXCELOQUENT) it was established that leading up to the incident, HELLARIOUS when racing greenly shifted in and away from CELTIC BRAVE, which resulted in both GUNNIE GUNNFIGHTER and MEDIA BRIEF being buffeted and racing in restricted room. Stewards noted that whilst A. Mallyon (CELTIC BRAVE) had shifted in slightly, he was unable to relieve the tightening, after being carried in by A. Jones (EXCELOQUENT). Stewards when considering the incident in its entirety and noting the racing manners of HELLARIOUS also issued, a reprimand to A. Jones, pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in that A Jones should’ve made greater effort to prevent her mount from shifting in.
GUNNIE GUNFIGHTER – Near the 1000m raced in restricted room and was buffeted to the inside of MEDIA BRIEF.
ROSA KISS – Began awkwardly
BETTA BEING SINGLE –Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having started for an extended period and was passed suitable to start. Stewards in the presence of jockey advocate, M. Cahill questioned Apprentice C. Bellamy, regarding the tactics adopted on her runner. App C. Bellamy stated the instructions were to lead on BETTA BEING SINGLE. Apprentice C. Bellamy when considering the early pressure and the manner in which she rode the mare concluded that in hindsight she may have been to aggressive and subsequently was not able to restrain the mare, despite her efforts. Stewards when assessing Apprentice C Bellamys’ ride, with the view that she did err in a matter in which in she rode BETTA BEING SINGLE in the early stages, which may have had an effect on its finishing effort.
ABLESHEEBA –Slow to begin
CELTIC BRAVE – Near the 1000m was taken in slightly when awkwardly placed at the heels of EXCELOQUENT (A. Jones). Rider A. Jones was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR 131 (a).
ETOILE FAYRE – Trainer J. Kuhn reported that in her opinion the filly was exhibiting signs of shin soreness and advised that it would go for an immediate spell.
EXCELOQUENT – Near the 1000m was obliged to steady off the heels of BETTA BEING SINGLE. Apprentice C. Bellamy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131 (a) for careless riding.
HELLARIOUS –Near the 1000m commenced to shift in and away from CELTIC BRACE (A. Mallyon), tightening runners to his inside, loosing its position, shifting wider and racing ungenerously.
MEDIA BRIEF - Near the 1000m raced in restricted room and was buffeted between GUNNIE GUNFIGHTER (T. Brooker) and HELLARIOUS (App. J McMurray), which shifted in and away from CELTIC BRAVE (A Mallyon).
RACE 6: RACING AND SPORTS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1700 M
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Laid in at various stages throughout the event
EXPECTANT – Blundered at the crossing, shifted in and contacted the rail shortly after the start. Entering the home straight was inconvenienced and taken inwards when BOVIDAE laid in.
MARENARO – Slow to begin.
PREPOTENT – Laid in when put under pressure in the home straight.
SMART ACTION – Laid out noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
