SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Doomben - 25 October 2025 - Race 9
Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons whereby RHUVAAL had to steady passing the 200m. It was found that passing the 200m RHUVAAL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OCEAN ZAR, which shifted out and away from EXPRESS PAYMENT, which was carried out by PERFECT PLAY, which was carried out by CHAMIERRO, which in turn shifted out under riding. Jockey J Huxtable, rider of CHAMIERRO, was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
Gold Coast – 4 November 2025
Stewards concluded an inquiry into a complaint about the conduct of licensed stablehand Leslie C Kelly during the adjournment of the protest hearing of race 7. Mr L.C.Kelly pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR228(b) in that on 4 November 2025, during the adjournment of the protest hearing in race 7 at Aquis Park Gold Coast racecourse, whilst in the weighing room, he being a licensed stablehand, engaged in improper conduct in that he made an inappropriate and offensive comment, in a loud and audible voice when referring to Apprentice Jockey C. Bellamy, whilst she was in close proximity. Mr L.C.Kelly was fined $500. When determining penalty, Stewards considered his guilty plea, clean record over a 32-year period in the industry, remorsefulness, co-operation during the inquiry, acknowledgement that his behaviour on the day was not acceptable and the need for the penalty to act as specific and general deterrent. Mr L.C.Kelly was further issued with a reprimand pursuant to AR228(b) for his conduct during the protest hearing, which was not up to the standard expected of a licenced person when attending such hearings.
Toowoomba – 4 November 2025
Trainer M. Nolan reported in the following days that BESEIGE (Race 3) had pulled up well with no abnormalities following its run and he would continue on with the current racing program with the gelding.
GENERAL
As rider J. Molloy was not riding due to injury, Stewards permitted the rider change(s) as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Rider J. Molloy was advised he would require a medical certificate prior to resuming riding.
Trainer J. Downes was reprimanded pursuant to LR 36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dual acceptor HIDDEN FUTURE (Race 5) by the prescribed time. In determining penalty, account was taken for his clean record.
RACE 1: VALE IAN LEAVERS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
CHAMPAGNE TOWER – Rider C. Graham reported her mount failed to stretch out and was not suited to the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
DOING IT – Approaching and rounding the home turn, laid out. After the running of this race, it was noted the mare had lost its near fore plate.
FRENCH RIVIERA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to near foreleg.
KOBABILITY – In the early and middle stages, raced wide without cover.
MAGICAL EYE – Raced keen early.
MISSISSIPPI DREAM (NZ) – Raced keen early.
STYLISH ANGEL – Began awkwardly.
BODHRAN – Began awkwardly. Trainer C. Anderson was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting a horse to the mounting yard with incorrect gear (without a tongue tie).
DA VINCI GLOW – Raced wide without cover for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery.
WINGEANDWIN (NZ) – Slow to begin.
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 2:22pm.
B. Thompson, rider of WINGEANDWIN (NZ) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that near the 300m, he rode his mount out when not clear, resulting in PREACHABULL being taken out off its running for several strides and rider D. Piesley having to take hold to avoid heels. Rider B. Thompson’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of eleven (11) days, commencing midnight Saturday 22 November 2025, concluding midnight Wednesday 3 December 2025. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record and the QRIC Careless Riding Guidelines.
RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
GLOBAL – Held up for clear running from approaching the 400m until passing the 200m.
INVINCIBLE CHOICE – Rider J. Taylor reported after beginning well and when inside runners did not show sufficient speed, he elected to ride forward and take the lead to avoid being caught wide. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress.
IT IS WHAT IT IS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to resuming racing from an extended period. In the early stages, race ungenerously and passing the 1000m, laid in towards the hindquarters of GLOBAL and was checked.
NICCONIUM – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
WHAT DID YOU SAY – Change of tactics - more forward. Settled on pace.
ATOMIC TIME (NZ) – Brushed near the 1000m. In the early stages, raced wide without cover before being allowed to stride and join the lead passing the 600m. Approaching the 100m, shifted out under pressure before being corrected.
FAR BEYOND – Resaddled upon arrival to the barriers. Slow to begin. Rider M. Hellyer reported the gelding raced flat.
TRUST IN THE ROCK – Blundered shortly after the start. In the early stages, raced ungenerously and near the 1000m, brushed ATOMIC TIME (NZ). Trainer D. Dobbin will be advised a reprimand pursuant to AR106(2) will be recorded for presenting a horse to the mounting yard with incorrect gear (without a tongue tie).
ZHONGXIN KOALA – Approaching the winning post, steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of WHAT DID YOU SAY, which shifted in slightly.
RACE 3: GORDON'S GIN BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP 1950 M
UNCOMMON VALOUR – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
TROPIC SANDS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after making heavy contact with the gate leaving the mounting enclosure.
OUTBURST – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
GREY NORTHERN (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to the mare having raced at Gold Coast on 8 November 2025. In the early and middle stages, raced keenly and on a number of occasions, was checked to avoid heels. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
BLACK TYPHOON – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to the gelding having raced at Gold Coast on 8 November 2025. Change of tactics; further forward. Led. Laid out rounding the home turn.
ORCA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to the gelding having raced at Esk on 8 November 2025. Change of tactics; more forward. Sat behind the lead. Began awkwardly.
RACE 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1100 M
DR FARTHING – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SWEET PRETENDER, then shifted back in and was tightened onto MISHANI AZTEC, which in turn was tightened by SPIRITOF THE OCEAN, which shifted out. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced greenly in the straight.
SWEET PRETENDER – Bumped at the start.
MAKING NEWS – Change of tactics; to find cover from the gate. Settled at the rear.
LOVECATS – Held up for clear running from passing the 400m until the 250m.
MISHANI AZTEC – Tightened for room at the start between runners.
SPIRITOF THE OCEAN – As Apprentice J. Williams was unable to make the weight, he was replaced by rider M. Hellyer. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $200 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride and found to be overweight. Approaching and rounding the home turn, laid out.
RACE 5: TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M
WAYBURN – Near the 900m, steadied to avoid the heels of ENFORCEABLE (K. Wilson-Taylor), which shifted in when not clear. Rider K. Wilson-Taylor was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
MR DEMOCRAT – Began awkwardly and bumped with LADY BARBAROSSA. Raced wide without cover from the 900m.
BRIGHT OUTLOOK – Slow into stride.
ROSE OF CHANTILLY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
LADY BARBAROSSA – Began awkwardly and bumped with MR DEMOCRAT.
MISHANI WITNESS – When under pressure in the straight, laid in proving difficult to ride.
RACE 6: HAPPY BIRTHDAY KERRY NUTLEY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1680 M
The start of this race was delayed by approximately two (2) minutes due to DEEP DAWN proving difficult to load. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised a warning would be placed on mare for its manners
THE CATCH – Apprentice B. Youngberry could offer no explanation for the somewhat disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
CHASING JACKLEY – In the early and middle stages, raced wide without cover.
BURLEIGH MAGIC – Carried wider rounding the home turn by MOONSHINE RUN.
CASTERLY ROCK – Held up for clear running from the 200m until the approaching the 150m, before being shifted to the inside of FLYING BAT to obtain clear running.
SON OF BEEBEE – Slow to begin.
RACE 7: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350 M
SUBDUE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
SCOUNDREL – Heavily bumped at the start and had its hindquarters turned out. Held up for clear running from passing the 300m until the approaching the 150m. Trainer J. Bellamy was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting a horse to the mounting yard with the incorrect gear (with blinkers).
SWITCHBLADE – Rider M. Du Plessis reported the gelding laid in under pressure in the straight.
ALFA LILY – Shifted out at the start.
LA PITTRICE – Began awkwardly. When questioned, rider K. Wilson-Taylor explained he was asked to ride the mare a little further back than its previous start however, after beginning awkwardly and when it became apparent he would be caught wide, he elected to steady and take up a position near the rear of the field.
WANT TO BE PROUD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having the near hind plate refitted in the horse stalls. Rider B. Thompson reported his mount laid out from the 700m.
PORT RIVER BILLIE – Began awkwardly and heavily bumped SCOUNDREL. When questioned, rider C. Graham explained from the good gate she was able to take a more forward position.
GOOD PHILLY – Bumped at the start.
TRUCK STOP HONEY – Taken out at the start onto GOOD PHILLY and bumped.
ZELEZNY – Change of tactics; more forward. Settled midfield.
