RACE 1: TAB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 800M

Due to lightning being detected in the vicinity of the racecourse, race 1 was rescheduled to be run at 1:35pm.
 
LEVAR – On arrival at the barriers, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on at the request of the rider and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.
 
TOYGER – Began awkwardly and bumped HEAVENLY AZ. Jockey L. Tilley reported the gelding will take benefit from the run and may appreciate a step up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
RUNAROUND SUE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALBION SQUARE (GB) – Jockey C. Graham reported that the gelding didn’t feel entirely comfortable in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HEAVENLY AZ – Began awkwardly and bumped TOYGER. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
RACE 2:GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE 1100M
 
ALMOND GOLD – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout.
 
MR STORMY – Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice O. Kendal reported her mount hung out for the majority of the race, placing her at some disadvantage. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Sheehan was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.
 
ZEAMAIZE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
APOLLO CREAM – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped COSMIC ARC. Raced greenly throughout.
 
ZALIQUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 800m, improved onto the heels of APOLLO CREAM and was obliged to shift out. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
ANDI DON'T CARE – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
COSMIC ARC – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a good 4.
 
Prior to the running of Race 3, lightning strikes were detected within the vicinity of the racecourse for an extended period, resulting in Stewards delaying the start of this race significantly. Following 20mm of rain, Stewards and a delegation of riders inspected the racing surface when safe to do so. Stewards had concerns with areas of the racing surface that had become water logged, particularly sections at the home turn and in the home straight, and as such, Stewards deemed the track unsafe to continue racing and called the remainder of the meeting off at 3:47pm.
