SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Gatton 25/1/2026
Trainer T. Cowan reported that following the disappointing performance of BETA BETTER (Race 3), he conducted blood tests that revealed the mare to be showing signs of a recent viral infection and was now under veterinary treatment.
Stewards inquired into the reasons for jockey J. Murphy not riding at the meeting. After considering all evidence, including that of trainer J. Hubbard, Stewards accepted the reasons for J. Murphy not attending the meeting, citing some miscommunication and took no further action in the matter.
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 2: D. Boche +1kg (55kg)
Race 3: H. Shaw +0.5kg (56.5kg)
M. Hellyer +0.5kg (54.5kg)
Race 7: J. Lloyd +1kg (56kg)
As Rider C. Collis was unavailable for acceptable reasons he was replaced as per the Race Day Summary.
As Apprentice C. Lowe was injured at Dalby 30/01/26, she was replaced as per the Race Day Summary. Apprentice C. Lowe was advised a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again. In Race 1, as no apprentice rider was available and would be on course on time, Stewards granted permission for rider M. Savva to replace Apprentice C. Lowe.
Trainer S. Lee was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late race day declaration of T. Brooker as the rider of BRIGHT THE SUN in Race 6.
Trainer T. Pascoe was reprimanded pursuant to LR36(6)(a) for failing to withdraw MAZITA the dual acceptor in Race 6 and Race 7, by the prescribed time.
Stewards inquired into a report from the Compliance Assurance Team, who were performing race day morning checks, that BIG TECH engaged in Race 5 today was not at the registered stable address of Trainer D. Murphy. After contacting Mr. Murphy it was established that BIG TECH was in a location close by and as advised by Mr. Murphy, had been moved as the current stable location had been sold without his prior knowledge. The Compliance Assurance Team were able to view and inspect BIG TECH and were satisfied with the gelding’s condition for race day. Mr. Murphy advised that he had only recently moved BIG TECH and several other horses to the adjoining location but acknowledged that he had not advised QRIC Licensing and Stewards of the change. After consideration, Stewards permitted BIG TECH to take its place in the field and Mr. Murphy was severely reprimanded under AR101(1) for failing to obtain consent of the Stewards to have BIG TECH and other horses at a location other than his registered stable address.
