ZOE SHARK – Laid out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

RACE 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M

GOLDSBOROUGH (NZ) – Tightened approaching 800m.

SAILOR'S SECRET – Change of tactics, further forward from the good barrier. Shortly after the barriers opened, knuckled badly and lost considerable ground, settling at the rear. Approaching the 800m steadied when tightened by GOLDSBOROUGH, which was taken in by TROIKA, which after steadying across the heels and improving to the inside of LAYDOWNLILY, then received some tightening from that runner before LAYDOWNLILY was corrected. Rider T. Brooker was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. It was noted the gelding had lost its off fore plate following the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of general lameness. Trainer K. Schweida was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.

KRAKARIB – Fractious in the gates prior to the start. Apprentice L. Martyn could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of the gelding. RACE 4: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 M

Rider M. Rodd asked to view Steward’s patrol footage of the start to ascertain whether LAW MARSHAL had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the official footage, it was established after becoming fractious in the gates LAW MARSHAL was assisted to by an attendant. When the gates opened and still being assisted by an attendant the gelding got its head up and was very slow to begin. As Stewards and rider M. Rodd were satisfied that LAW MARSHAL had been afforded a fair start and further, that the actions of the barrier attendant were in the interests of safety, the gelding was deemed to be a starter.

LAVARACK – Steadied rounding the home turn.

LEAN WARRIOR – Raced three wide without cover for the majority.

POISED TYCOON – Rounding the home turn held up for clear running before shifting out passing the 400m, causing LAVARACK to be steadied. Rider F. Larson was advised to exercise greater care.

ICYMISS – Hampered early and carried very wide from the 600m and around the home turn.

LAW MARSHAL – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. When the gates opened, got its head up and was very slow to begin, losing considerable ground.

VILLANDRY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.

SHAQUE D'AMOUR – Commenced to hang out from passing the 1100m and in so doing caused some inconvenience to ICYMISS in the early stages before carrying that runner off the track passing the 600m and around the home turn. Trainer T. Costiopoulos was advised SHAQUE D’AMOUR would be required to Officially trial to Stewards satisfaction before racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations in its mouth.

RACE 5: SEVEN NEWS BM58 HANDICAP 2180 M

The start of this race was delayed due to an interstate race running behind schedule.

VERMEER – Slow to begin. When being steadied from the heels of QUICK SHOT approaching the 1700m, shifted out, hampering MAURITA and PREACHABULL, obliging both of those runners to race wider for a short distance. Raced keen early. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and passing the 300m, steadied when disappointed for a run between QUICK SHOT and PAPAL MISS, which rolled in slightly. VERMEER then had difficulty obtaining clear running for the remainder of the race and was not fully tested.

HAMILTON BROWN – Laid in rounding the home turn and in the straight and near the 150m bumped with MAURITA.

FLYING ROTHE – Slow to begin. Apprentice O. Kendal pleaded guilty to a charge under rule AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip 12 times prior to the 100m and 15 in totality. Apprentice Kendal’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 21st February 2026 and end midnight 2nd March 2026. When considering penalty, account was taken of Apprentice O. Kendal’s guilty plea, her record in relation to this rule and the QRIC penalty guidelines for whip breaches.

RACE 7: RACIING AND SPORTS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M

SIR WINNIE – Raced four wide without over throughout.

GOZO – Reluctant to leave the mounting enclosure. Stable representative for trainer R. Heathcote was advised a warning would be recorded against the gelding for its pre-race manners. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Near the 600m, steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of SIR WINNIE. Rider V. Duric could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance other than being caught wide may have proved detrimental to the gelding’s finishing effort. Rider V. Duric reported some discomfort to his right shoulder after being dislodged in the mounting yard. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and some soreness in both hind legs. Further a respiratory noise was detected. Stable representative for trainer R. Heathcote, O. Peoples, was advised a veterinary certificate inclusive of an endoscopic scope prior to the gelding next trialing or racing.

GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Slow to begin.

SMOKIN MATCH – Began awkwardly. Eased down from the 400m. Rider M. Murphy could offer no explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer S. Croxford was advised the gelding would be required to Officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.

TRUSTY BANDIT – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

BRIGHT THE SUN – When questioned about leading the event, Apprentice B. Youngberry stated she was instructed to be more positive on the mare and to obtain a forward position, which she was able to do, however; when the initial leader steadied and her mount was to its outside, she allowed her mount to roll forward and cross to the fence and take the lead near the 1200m. Trainer S. Lee stated the instructions where to sit in a handy, mid position given BRIGHT THE SUN was second up over the distance and expressed his disappointment in that the mare eventually led the event.

CLASSIQUE GAL – Trainer B. Brown explained he was happy with the mare’s previous start at Ipswich 21st January 2026 and being back to a more suitable class of race, felt that CLASSIQUE GAL was a winning chance.
