GENERAL
 
The track was downgraded to a Soft 6 at 11:00am.
 
RACE 1: THE INDUSTRY SCHOOL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M
 
The start of this race was effected manually.
 
MAGIC INVADER – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
HIT THE KEY – Near the 200m, steadied to avoid the heels of SAN GIMIGNANO (App O. Kendal), which shifted in under riding. Apprentice O. Kendal was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
MISHANI SENORITA – Turned its head slightly to the left as the gates opened whilst being assisted by an attendant and was slow to begin.
 
MOMORY – Dipped near the 250m.
 
WORTHY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
RACE 2: TAB MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
 
SAMPHIRE GREEN (IRE) – Slow to begin.
 
CERETTI – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider A. Jones was unable to offer an explanation for the disappointing performance of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MISS ADRIFT – Began awkwardly.
 
UNSURE MISS – When weakening approaching the 400m, laid out. Passing the 400m, steadied when awkwardly placed between LAUNCHER and CERETTI.
 
RACE 3: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE MAIDEN PLATE 2200 M
 
CYPHER PRINCE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Eased out of the race near the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an off fore suspensory ligament injury. Trainer M. Morrison was advised CYPHER PRINCE would require veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
SCUTI – When asked about the tactics, rider G. Cartwright stated she was asked to have the gelding in a mid to rear position, however; SCUTI did not travel throughout the event and failed to finish the race off as hoped. Trainer S. Morrisey stated after the gelding’s disappointing run last start in going forward, he asked rider G. Cartwright to attempt to settle SCUTI worse than midfield. Trainer S. Morrisey was reminded of his obligations pursuant to AR100 to notify Stewards about any change of tactics from the horse’s previous start.
 
COOLOUNDRA – When making ground quickly near the 350m, checked when disappointed for a run between BLIGHTYS HOPE (GB) and WANNA KISS, which rolled in away from PROMISES MADE (NZ).
 
BLIGHTYS HOPE (GB) – When asked about the tactics, Apprentice J. Franklin stated from the wide gate and after beginning well, he was obliged to press forward and lead. He said the mare weakened from the 800m, noting this was BLIGHTYS HOPE (GB) first attempt over the 2000m distance. He added the mare is better suited when ridden with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
ISLA DELILAH – Near the 450m, became unbalanced when bumped heavily by WANNA KISS (F. Larson), which rolled out.
 
PROMISES MADE (NZ) – Connections advised a change of tactics; attempt to be closer from the good gate. Settled midfield. Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 350m.
 
RACE 4: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
MELDUBIOUS – Began awkwardly and bumped RUSTIC TZAR on the hindquarters, which shifted in.
 
RUSTIC TZAR – Bumped on the hindquarters at the start and became badly unbalanced. Approaching the 400m, steadied and shifted out across the heels of SOME STYLE (A. Jones). Rider A. Jones was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
CLUBHOUSE – Hampered at the start.
 
SIR MAURICE – Held up for clear running from the 450m until the 350m.
 
SOME STYLE – Rider A. Jones could not offer an explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
EXPRESS BARBIE - Shifted in at the start. Raced keenly in the lead.
 
RACE 5: GORDON'S GIN RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
NATIONAL INTEREST – Near the 600m, steadied from the heels of BOLD AS BRASS (J. Lloyd), which shifted in when not quite clear. Rider J. Lloyd was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Near the 200m, steadied for several strides when STYLISH JOKER rolled in before being corrected.
 
ANCIENT SCENT – Slow to begin then hampered when ESPRIT DU JOUR shifted in at the start after brushing with STYLISH JOKER. Raced ungenerously and got its head up on a number of occasions throughout the event. Near the 150m, steadied from the heels of BOLD AS BRASS, which rolled out slightly under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BOLD AS BRASS – Shifted in near the 600m. Rolled out slightly under pressure near the 150m.
 
ESPRIT DU JOUR – Shifted in at the start after being brushed by STYLISH JOKER. Raced keen early.
 
STYLISH JOKER – Raced keen early.
 
ALL TOO FOXY – Trainer P. Campbell was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. 
 
RACE 6: RACING AND SPORTS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2010 M
 
FIRE AND LIGHT – Tightened at the start between runners. Raced keenly in the middle stages, and passing the 700m steadied from the heels of CALL ME LEGEND. Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 300mn.
 
SACRED BULL (NZ) – Apprentice L. Martyn rider of SACRED BULL (NZ) was fined $500 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip nine (9) occasions prior to the 100m. Apprentice L. Martyn was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for the use of her whip in consecutive strides on two (2) occasions prior to the 100m.
 
DOWN UNDER STUNNAH – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running approaching the 400m until on straightening near the 300m. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
HELL FOLLOWS – Tightened at the start between runners.
 
PAPAL MISS – Shifted in at the start.
 
CLASSIQUE GAL – Rider D. Boche was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip in an action above shoulder height.
 
SLUGWORTH – Shifted out at the start. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
RACE 7: SCHWEPPES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1710 M
 
MAZITA – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
SPICY WINGS (NZ) – Held up for clear running for several strides passing the 100m when CLEARLY GEORGE (H. Shaw) shifted in under pressure. Rider H. Shaw was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Rider D. Turner stated the gelding failed to let down as expected and although he held up slightly passing the 100m, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the off-hind fetlock consistent with being galloped on.  
 
OCEAN DIVA (NZ) – Rider B. Lerena stated the mare travelled comfortably for most of the race, however; when asked for an effort from the 200m, failed to respond and weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Slow to begin.
 
CASANOVA MAN (NZ) – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m, and near the 200m shifted to the inside of CHANCE WITH WOLVES to obtain clear running.
