RACE 2: LAMINAR PLUMBING MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350 M
LAW MARSHAL – Had its head turned as the start was affected and as a result was slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
SATURDAYS GIRL - Stewards questioned jockey D Peisley regarding the tactics adopted on SATURDAYS GIRL, of particular concern to stewards was whether there was opportunity when passing the 700m to shift wider on the track to improve to the outside of SPEEGLE when the pace of the race had only been steady, and continue to improve from that point rather than follow SPEEGLE and improve to the inside of that horse passing the 400m. Jockey D Peisley explained that after obtaining a favourable position following SPEEGLE in the early stages he had given consideration to shifting wider at that point however was mindful of his instructions to not make a long sustained run and be strong late to the line and in the circumstances he felt in hindsight that he had taken the correct option. After considering the explanation and confirming the instructions that had been issued, stewards accepted the explanation tendered.
BOSSIRI – Began awkwardly.
DEFIANT MISS – Forced wider near the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards.
SPEEGLE – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have the Thumps.
SIMBA'S PRIDE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from near the 200m until near the 100m behind the weakening BAD FOREST.

RACE 7: CONGRATULATIONS JAKE + SHAKIRA CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1666 M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey D Peisley rider of EMPIRE OF ART (2nd place) lodged a protest against 1st place getter TRUMP CARD (NZ) ridden by B Lerena alleging interference passing the 200m. Stewards, after hearing evidence from all parties and on review of the official films, found that EMPIRE OF ART raced in restricted racing room after improving to the inside of TRUMP CARD (NZ) and to the outside of ABRAHAM. Stewards noted that the majority of the shift had come from ABRAHAM shifting out causing the restricted racing room and noted a marginal shift from TRUMP CARD (NZ). Furthermore, stewards were not satisfied that the shift from TRUMP CARD (NZ) was sufficient to alter the head margin, therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s numbers.
