GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 1: Jagg Guthmann-Chester +0.5kg (56.5kg)
Trainer J. Judge was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare the rider of DOLLY DISCO by the prescribed time.
RACE 1: DARREL BELL - 45 YEARS SERVICE QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 M
TROY BOY – Bumped at start.
DISCO DIAMOND - Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SUPER SWAZEY, which in turn bumped TROY BOY.
PIXIE LANE – Raced greenly in the middle stages and near the 500m, got its head up and hung out.
SUPER SWAZEY – Bumped at start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a laceration to its near foreleg.
RACE 2: GREAT NORTHERN CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1100 M
IKASARA – Raced three-wide without cover early. Rider B. Thompson reported, to avoid racing wide without cover early, he elected to steady near the 700m and come back and race behind JUNGLE LAW. He added the gelding did not travel as expected, although made some good ground late and may appreciate having blinkers added.
BEAUTY RISING - Began awkwardly and then knuckled. Apprentice J. Franklin reported the mare was under pressure from the 500m, failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
NEW HAMPSHIRE - Held up from the 450m until the 250m.
RACE 3: POCO VINO OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M
LUBRICATION – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the second time. Trainer M. Dunn was advised the gelding would now incur a lifetime ban from racing.
RICHON – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having raced for an extended period.
TROIKA - In the middle stages raced keenly.
JEMELDI – Slow to begin. Approaching the winning post raced in restricted room.
COMMAND APPROVED - When under pressure in the straight laid out.
RACE 4: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP 1666 M
MR RACING - Slow into stride.
DUAL MASTERY - For some distance passing the 1400m, raced keenly and got its head up when being steadied from the heels of TIGERMOTH.
MONAKEED - On leaving the gates shifted in.
RUBICK'S SHADOW - For several strides near the 400m was held up for a run.
RUSTY TYCOON - Rider B. Thompson reported after being caught wide early and when the pace of the race slackened passing the 1400m, he allowed his mount to stride and take the lead near the 1000m.
AWEIGH – When questioned rider M. Du Plessis said it was the intention to be positive if the mare began well. He added as the mare did begin well, he was able to cross and lead near the 1400m, however; when asked for an effort approaching the 500m, AWEIGH did not respond to his riding, became awkward in its action and weakened quickly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Thornton was notified the mare would be required to Officially trial to Stewards satisfaction before racing again.
EVADE THE GAME - Knuckled on leaving the barriers, unbalancing rider J. Bayliss and losing ground. Held up for a run from passing the 500m until near the 300m.
FIVE OF US - Change of tactics, attempt to find cover. Settled worse than midfield. When making ground passing the 400m, momentarily steadied from the heels of EVADE THE GAME and was shifted in to obtain clear running.
HOPETOUN PARK – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after kicking a rail behind the barriers.
RACE 5: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1100 M
ONIGIRI (GB) – When being steadied to find cover on leaving the gates, got its head up. Near the 1000m steadied when tightened by SO BRIGHT (N. Tomizawa), which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider N. Tomizawa was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Approaching and the rounding the home turn was held up for a run behind EXCEED THE SKY.
BRAVE HORATIUS – Near the 800m steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of LE CHOCOLAT.
BIG DEMEANOR – Began awkwardly.
DOLLY DISCO – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
RACE 6: GORDON'S GIN COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BM60 HANDICAP 1350 M
HE'SGOTTHESAY – Trainer G. Thornton was reprimanded pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting the gelding without winkers, which are a part of its declared gear.
BETTER DRAW (NZ) – Held up for a run from passing the 500m until near the 300m.
HEROIC BEACH – Held up for a run from passing the 500m until near the 300m.
SAVE THE ROSES - Near the 250m checked from the heels of the weakening STYLISH JOKER.
STYLISH JOKER - Rider B. Lerena reported the gelding raced very keenly and despite his efforts in the early stages to restrain, established a considerable lead on the rest of the field passing the 900m. He added he has recommended to connections the blinkers be removed for the gelding’s next start.
GOLD MERCHANT – Rider M. Hellyer reported the gelding laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 7: BARRIER REEF POOLS FILLIES AND MARES BM60 HANDICAP 1350 M
The running of this race was delayed 3 minutes owing to MAGIC MOZ refusing to load and subsequently being declared a late withdrawal at 4:41pm.
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MAGIC MOZ be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply:
1st - RATENOTICE 7c win 6c place
2nd - SHE MOVES TOO 6c place
3rd - DIVINE DIAMONDS 7c place
Trainers C. & K. Geran were advised the filly would be required to Officially trial to the Stewards satisfaction before racing again.
THE ROOKIE - Laid in near the 900m. Eased down from the 200m. Rider Y. Lewis reported the filly raced flat and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and mild lameness in off foreleg. Trainer G. Neilsen was notified a veterinary certificate would be required prior to THE ROOKIE racing or trialling again.
HELLO IN THERE – Raced wide without cover. Rider M. Du Plessis reported after beginning well the mare took up a more forward position in the early stages, than its most recent starts.
MISHANI QUEST – Near the 1100m shied, shifted out and momentarily unbalanced both horse and rider J. Guthmann-Chester. For a short distance approaching the 900m raced tight to the inside of THE ROOKIE, which was laying in.
BRUTAL SUE – Approaching the home turn was held up for a run behind SHOUTS ALL DAY, before shifting to the inside of that horse on straightening; and then approaching the 200m, was again held up behind MISHANI QUEST, before being eased and shifted out across that filly’s heels to obtain clear running.
HEY CHARDONNAY – Raced three wide with cover in the middle stages
COCO JEWEL - Reported after the race, to have lost its off fore plate.
RACE 8: VINCE INSURANCE BM60 HANDICAP 1666 M
REGGIE'S FOLLY- Laid in when under pressure in the home straight.
AUTUMN MISS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
FIRE AND LIGHT - Slow to begin. Over the final 100m laid in under pressure.
CANARA - Change of tactics, settle further forward from good barrier and with blinkers back on. Settled in a handy position.
LEXY ROSE - Apprentice J. Franklin reported after beginning well, the mare settled in a more forward position then its previous start.
OUR JEWEL - Near the 1400m got its head up when being steadied from the heels of CANARA.
PROPOSE - Held up for a run for a short distance approaching the 400m.
QUEEN OF TAYRONA - Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Held up for a run from passing the 400m until the 300m.
KEEP IT LOKI - Slow to begin.
HEADSTRONG - Began awkwardly.
CHEERFUL CAT- Rider D. Boche was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race, where possible.
