RACE 1:TAB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 800 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when PROFITEUR’S FIL proved difficult to load.
CATFISH – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the middle stages. Laid out over the concluding stages.
MISHANI OSCAR – Slow to begin and lost considerable ground.
PROFITEUR'S FIL – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout. Bumped by SHOTPOINT over the concluding stages when that runner was laying out. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported that his mount was unable to muster early speed and raced greenly in the middle stages. He added that the gelding did its best work over the concluding stages and would appreciate a step up in distance.
SHOTPOINT - Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
I'LLTELLYOUANYTIME – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI INFERNO - Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
PAULA – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
RACE 2:GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes when O’REILLY’S SHOUT required a resaddle on arrival at the barriers.
ICONIFY – Slow to begin. Cast the near fore plate.
BOMBUS – Cast the near fore plate.
ZOUSLAYER – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. A piece of saddle packing slipped off from under the saddle near the 900m. This had no material effect on the weight when jockey Meehan weighed in and therefore correct weight was declared.
O'REILLY'S SHOUT – Apprentice O. Kendal was reprimanded pursuant to AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance (1kg of 1.5kg allowance).
RACE 3:HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY GEOFFREY CONAGHAN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1666 Metres
VAN GHOST (NZ) – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a minor laceration to the inside of the offside nostril causing blood to be present.
NEIGHTHAN – Inconvenienced approaching the 500m when LOS ALAMITOS shifted in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LIGHTS WILL GUIDE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying signs of a poor recovery.
MEASURE OF TIME – Jockey M. Rodd reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout. Eased out of the race near the 400m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that MEASURE OF TIME must officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
RAINBOW GLITTER – Inconvenienced approaching the 500m when LOS ALAMITOS shifted in. Stewards questioned jockey K. Zechner regarding his riding from the 600m until leaving the 350m. Jockey K. Zechner stated that he was unable to pressure his mount during this period as when approaching the 500m, he was inconvenienced when NEIGHTHAN shifted in at that point. Following this, the filly felt awkward in its action and was inclined to hang out. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer V. Venkaya advised Stewards that it was his intention to have the filly examined by his veterinarian in the coming days and experiment with the addition of blinkers to the fillies’ gear before stepping it up in distance. Mr Venkaya was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for its performance and a report from his veterinarian will be required.
BOMB PERIGNON – Trainer’s representative for the C. Waller stable was advised that the stable would incur a $100 fine for negligence pursuant to AR227(a) in failing to apply for jockey K. Wilson-Taylor to ride 0.5kg overweight resulting in his replacement with jockey B. Thompson. Began awkwardly.
LA GRACIA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
RACE 4:HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT SHARPE CLASS 1 PLATE 1950 Metres
EMPIRE OF ART (GER) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and near the 50m rider was obliged to stop riding and straighten.
USE YOUR ILLUSION – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.
CERTIFY (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
OVAL OFFICE – Underwent farrier attention after casting the off fore plate enroute to the barriers. Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
EVADE THE GAME - When asked to comment on the performance and the tactics adopted, jockey R. Maloney reported that it was intention to obtain a midfield position with cover however, his mount was caught wide and inclined to over race in the early and middle stages, therefore he allowed his mount to stride forward to a leading position in the middle stages. He added that EVADE THE GAME was also inclined to lay out.
MONTEVECCHIO – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and obliged to alter course near the 150m to obtain clear running.
RACE 5:BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 2150 Metres
CHILLAXING (IRE) – Steadied from heels after passing the winning post on the first occasion. Rider D. Moor reported that his mount was inclined to lay in throughout.
SACRED BULL (NZ) – Slow to begin.
HEAVENLY LOVE – Obliged to steady from heels of CHILLAXING after passing the winning post on the first occasion when that horse was steadied to avoid the heels of VERMILION KIRIN which shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging its rider to stop and straighten.
WAVERLEY – Cast the near fore plate.
RACE 6:KELLY SCHWEIDA RACING BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100 Metres
GEEGEE JET BY – Slow into stride. Had difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m.
NO NAME FRANK – Inconvenienced and forced wider rounding the home turn when A TOUCH OF FAYT shifted out.
LUMENS LENNY – Raced wide whilst being ridden forward to the lead until passing the 700m.
GOODES – Improved onto heels approaching the 700m and had to be steadied.
THORMENDOUS MISS – Inconvenienced and forced wider rounding the home turn when A TOUCH OF FAYT shifted out. Jockey T. Marshall, rider of A TOUCH OF FAYT, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. Approaching the 200m, inconvenienced when NO NAME FRANK shifted out under pressure.
HANNABANA – Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced and forced wider rounding the home turn when A TOUCH OF FAYT shifted out.
RACE 7:SEVEN NEWS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes when BOLLINGER MISS dislodged its rider K. Wilson-Taylor on entering the track and galloped riderless for a considerable distance before being recaptured. BOLLINGER MISS was declared a late scratching at 3.48pm and Stewards ordered that all bets placed on BOLLINGER MISS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st MIDNIGHT DRIFTER 7c win, 10c place
2nd EL PENSADOR 9c place
3rd ARALETTA 10c place
Co-trainer C. Munce was advised that a warning would be placed on BOLLINGER MISS for its pre race manners. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was examined by QAS and cleared of any injury.
MIDNIGHT DRIFTER – Laid out rounding the home turn.
HOLY FLASH – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
ACAPULCO GIRL (NZ) – Slow to begin.
PRIME ASSET – Approaching the 1000m, steadied from the heels of GOLDEN CROSS when that runner shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. Murphy, rider of GOLDEN CROSS, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Laid out rounding the home turn. Held up for clear running over the final 100m.
ITZA CHARMDEEL – Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
TOOLATEMATE - Raced wide throughout.
GOLDEN CROSS – Near the 300m, when attempting to secure clear running became awkward at the heels of TOOLATEMATE and had to be steadied as a result. A short distance later, shifted out and was again obliged to steady when disappointed for a run between TOOLATEMATE and RUBYDOO which shifted in. Rider M. Murphy advised his mount failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 8:SCHWEPPES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
RAGING – Raced wide throughout. Near the 200m, was steadied when placed in restricted room between CLUBHOUSE and GRANDEUR ROSE which shifted out away from DECADAD.
READY TO IGNITE – Leaving the 1000m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SURE START which shifted in. Apprentice C. Sutherland, rider of SURE START, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Near the 700m, forced wider and raced wide from this point onwards when DECADAD shifted out away from the heels of SURE START.
YEAH COPY – Approaching the 800m, had to be checked from heels when the pace of the race slackened. Had to be checked near the 300m after improving onto the heels of ROCKRATA. Obliged to alter course near the 200m to secure clear running.
DECADAD – Near the 800m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SURE START which shifted in.
SURE START – Apprentice C. Sutherland reported that it was not his intention to lead however when he was going to be caught wide he pressed forward to lead the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off hind consistent with being galloped on.
SAVE THE ROSES – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
BEE EXACT – Apprentice O. Kendal dropped her whip near the 150m.
MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Slow to begin. Obliged to alter course to secure clear running approaching the 200m.
DUCHESS BREE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and obliged to alter course near the 200m to secure clear running.
GRANDEUR ROSE – Raced wide throughout.
