GENERAL

As Jockey D. Turner was ill, he was replaced in Race 2 on RHETORIC by Jockey R. Maloney. Jockey D. Turner was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again.
 
Prior to the running of Race 1, Stewards inspected the track and rated it a Soft 6 with the mouth of the 1350m chute being rated a Soft 7.
 
Following the running of Race 8, Apprentice J. McMurray was cautioned in relation to his conduct in the mounting yard post-race.
 
RACE 1:BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE      1350 M


BOOMTOWN LADDIE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Restrained near the 1000m to take up a position with cover at the rear of the field. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey M. Rodd reported that after beginning awkwardly he settled further back than intended and felt that BOOMTOWN LADDIE was one paced in the home straight and may appreciate a step up in distance at its next start.
 
MANSORY (NZ) – Jockey D. Boche was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

ST ANDREWS – Approaching the 1000m raced in restricted room and contacted the running rail when THRASH A BULLY shifted in when over-racing. Lost its near hind plate.

UNDER ARREST (NZ) – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Bumped with THRASH A BULLY on jumping away. Raced wide until being ridden forward to a position outside of the leader approaching the 900m.
 
UNIQUELY FAMOUS (FR) – Bumped shortly after the start.           Approaching the 1000m was severely hampered and became unbalanced when tightened for room by MANSORY (NZ), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
MISTEMBA – Hampered on jumping away.

SHEZA'S DESTINY - Began awkwardly and contacted the outside barrier partition on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
TASSORATI – When asked to comment on performance, Apprentice E. Lang reported that being first up, TASSORATI would derive benefit from today’s event and in her opinion may not have appreciated the soft track conditions.
 
THRASH A BULLY – Bumped with UNDER ARREST (NZ) on jumping away. Jockey G. Cartwright reported that in her opinion THRASH A BULLY may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions.


RACE 2:VINCE INSURANCE MAIDEN PLATE          1200 M

ATLANTIC COAST – Slow to begin.
 
FLASHMASTER – Hampered on jumping away.
 
ONLY CRUNCHIE – Bumped on jumping away. Approaching the 900m, steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room to the inside of VIDEO VIXEN, which was carried inwards by LAKE OF FIRE when that runner was steadied from the heels of ARISTOCRATIC GIRL. Jockey G. Cartwright, the rider of ARISTOCRATIC GIRL, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and post-race cough. Trainer N. Hemmings was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to racing again.

ARISTOCRATIC GIRL – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped FLASHMASTER.

FORTYSECONDSTREET – Began awkwardly and shifted out on jumping away. Hampered shortly after the start. Near the 900m had to be steadied from heels. Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 150m was obliged to shift in to secure clear running. Approaching the winning post had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of RHETORIC, which shifted in under pressure.
 
LAKE OF FIRE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped FLASHMASTER.
 
OPETAIA – Connections advised a change of tactics – settle further forward. Ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 900m had to be steadied from heels.


RACE 3:IPSWICH PARTY HIRE CLASS 2 HANDICAP          1200 M

BOLD BIDDER – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey D. Moor reported that BOLD BIDDER failed to muster speed as he would have anticipated in the early stages, never traveled comfortably and proved disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BREEZIN' – Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m. Leaving the 50m, was bumped heavily by CHERRABAH and as a result became unbalanced.

REWRITE – Bumped by BREEZIN' leaving the 50m.
 
WILIAMTHECONQUEROR – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up rounding the home turn. Improved onto heels near the 250m and was obliged to shift in. Disappointed for a run leaving the 200m. Improved onto heels approaching the winning post and was unable to be fully tested.
 
ALLEZE – Raced wide from the 800m. Laid out rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey J. Bayliss reported that being caught wide from the 800m may have had a detrimental effect on the colt’s finishing efforts. He further added that ALLEZE was inclined to hang out and race greenly when outside other runners.

GALPIN – Hampered on jumping away.

SUMMIT – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start. Near the 500m, shifted in after being momentarily tightened by WILIAMTHECONQUEROR. Raced in restricted room to the inside of WILIAMTHECONQUEROR for a short distance approaching the 400m. Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested.
 
CHERRABAH – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Near the 50m, shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with BREEZIN’. Jockey D. Boche was remined of his obligations to use his whip in a manner that is not forward of the horse’s shoulder.

COINCIDE – Slow to begin. Near the 500m raced in restricted room, contacted the running rail.

RACE 4:GORDON'S GIN BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP - ***WEIGHTS RAISED 2.0***        2170 M

PUNJABI LANDING – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced and carried wider near the 600m by OUR TURN NOW (NZ), which laid out.

OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Laid out leaving the 600m and rounding the home turn.

ROCK YA (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.  Jockey M. Rodd reported at scale that ROCK YA (NZ) raced keenly and peaked on its run over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PICKO ROCKS – Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.

ARTFUL GIRL – Raced wide throughout.         

ABOVEFORTY– Apprentice B. Osmond reported that in his opinion ABOVEFORTY may not have appreciated today’s soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

O'CALDINO – Began awkwardly.

RACE 5:GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP          1350 M

The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 mins owing to SAVAII becoming fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected, rearing and becoming cast with its forelegs on top of the barrier partition. SAVAII was subsequently backed out and underwent a veterinary examination and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:55pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on SAVAIIbe refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st SAINT ALDWYN 7c win, 5c place
2nd MORE LOVE 7c place
3rd FALCON OF MALTA 14c place
 
Trainer representative Miss H. Gregory was advised that SAVAII would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
SUPER DUCK, which was drawn adjacent to SAVAII was subsequently withdrawn from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and found to have been contacted in the head by SAVAII and therefore declared a late scratching at 2:55pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on SUPER DUCK be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st SAINT ALDWYN 7c win, 5c place
2nd MORE LOVE 7c place
3rd FALCON OF MALTA 14c place

SWEET PROPOSAL – Blundered on jumping away.

OUTAKANDY – Slow to begin.    
 
SAVAII – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its off hindleg. Trainer A. Archibald was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
WHY WE DRINK – Raced keenly in the middle stages.        

OLD SONG – Began awkwardly and lost ground.


RACE 6:TAB CLASS 4 HANDICAP       1680 M
 
EASY LOVE – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
WOWZINO (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages before being permitted to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 800m. Laid out rounding the home turn.

SUBTERRAIN – Bumped with BIG TICKET BOY on jumping away. Jockey B. Thompson reported at scale that he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated and being the geldings first attempt over this distance, he was satisfied with how SUBTERRAIN finished the race off.
 
MATAWAI (NZ) – Slow into stride.
 
BIG TICKET BOY – Bumped with SUBTERRAIN on jumping away. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight.

BOLLINGER MISS – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.

KICKUPHIGH - Raced wide until the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to its off hindleg.
 
MILES OF GLORY – Near the 1300m, after being taken out marginally by WOWZINO (NZ), had to then be momentarily steadied from the heels of KICKUPHIGH, which also shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
 
THEBARBEROFSEVILLE – Laid in under pressure approaching the 100m, obliging its rider to stop and straighten the gelding.
 
DRAGON SONG – Near the 400m eased from the heels of EASY LOVE which shifted out to improve. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester, the rider of EASY LOVE, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.


RACE 7:AVS SECURITY BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP          1100 M

Prior to entering the mounting enclosure, ITSI STAR became fractious in the tie up stalls and reared over. Underwent a veterinary examination which revealed abrasions to its near foreleg and was declared a late scratching at 3:55pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on ISTI STAR be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st TOWN CRIER 31c win, 27c place
2nd FIRST MISSION 27c place
3rd RALPHIE 29c place
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 mins owing to SYNERGY IN MOTION becoming fractious in the barriers and attempting to burrow under the front barrier partition before then rearing and becoming cast. SYNERGY IN MOTION was subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:08pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on SYNERGY IN MOTION be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st TOWN CRIER 13c win, 13c place
2nd FIRST MISSION 12c place
3rd RALPHIE 14c place
 
Trainer A. Campton was advised that SYNERGY IN MOTION would require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
RALPHIE and ALDOLFITO, which was drawn adjacent to SYNERGY IN MOTION were subsequently withdrawn from the barriers, underwent veterinary examinations and cleared to start.
 
STATE IN TEXAS – Began awkwardly, contacted the outside barrier partition and bumped THELWELL.

THELWELL – Bumped on jumping away.

ANTONITO (NZ) - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ALDOLFITO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
THE GAMBLING GREEK – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to secure cover. Ridden accordingly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CRESSBROOK – Began awkwardly.
 

RACE 8:POCO VINO QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD & FOUR-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP        1100 M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the official patrol footage of the start to determine if MANUKAU was afforded a fair start. After doing so, Stewards were comfortably satisfied that MANUKAU’s head had not been restrained when the barriers opened and it had turned its head of its own accord and as a result Stewards declared correct weight on the Judges numbers.

HEARTS ARE BETTER– Became fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Trainer M. Hoysted was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare in relation to its barrier manners. Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start became severely crowded and lost ground when CLIMACTIC was taken outwards after being bumped on the hindquarters by SECRET SORT and BELLOVE that was taken in by THUNDERING SOUL. Apprentice T. Fenlon the rider of THUNDERING SOUL was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Steadied near the 900m from the heels of MANUKAU, which shifted in. Apprentice J. McMurray, the rider of MANUKAU was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CLICK CLICK BOOM – Began awkwardly.

CLIMACTIC – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
THUNDERING SOUL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, resulting in its rider having difficulty being able to fully test the gelding. Steadied approaching the winning post from the heels of MANUKAU, which shifted out. Apprentice J. McMurray the rider of MANUKAU was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and clinical signs of the thumps. Trainer P. Webster was advised that THUNDERING SOUL would be required to officially trial prior to racing again.

MANUKAU – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer M. Freedman was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare in relation to its pre-race manners. Slow to begin.
 
PETITE PALACE – Bumped on jumping away and shifted out for a short distance despite the efforts of its rider. Over-raced in the middle stages.

SATISFIED MUGS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.

SECRET SORT – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was severely crowded and lost ground when tightened between PETITE PALACE, which shifted out and CLIMACTIC.

BELLOVE – Steadied from the heels of THUNDERING SOUL shortly after the start and as a result was taken inwards. Raced wide for the majority.Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that BELLOVE never travelled comfortably at any stage and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
NATURALLY LIT – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced wide from the 700m. Over-raced in the middle stages.
