RACE 2: AVS SECURITY MAIDEN PLATE 1710 Metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the start of this race was reviewed with Starter D. Jones after it appeared that prior to the start being effected all runners lunged at the gates. D. Jones stated that after her initial attempt to effect the start, there was a slight delay in the gates opening. On review, Stewards were satisfied that all runners were afforded a fair start.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, rider of second past the post GRATIFICATION (rider F. Larson) lodged an objection against first past the post KALAMIA KING (ridden by apprentice B. Wheeler), alleging interference in the home straight, in particular over the final 75m. After taking evidence from both riders and trainers W. Kropp (GRATIFICATION) and J. Zielke (KALAMIA KING). Stewards noted that leaving the 100m, GRATIFICATION had established a run to the inside of KALAMIA KING, the run continued to narrow when KALAMIA KING laid in when placed under pressure bumping with GRATIFICATION on multiple occasions causing that runner to be become unbalanced and jockey F. Larson being unable to fully pressure his mount. Stewards when considering the half neck margin, the manner of which both horses finished off the event and the interference to GRATIFICATION, Stewards upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the numbers 1-2-8-6.

GRATIFICATION (NZ) – Shortly after the start crowded between HOPEFUL CAUSE and UNDER ARREST. Shifted wider from the 900m. Raced in restricted room over the final 100m, bumped and became unbalanced. Apprentice B. Wheeler was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
