GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweights:
 
Race 6: M. Rodd +0.5kg (55.5kg)
Race 8: K. Wilson-Taylor +1kg (55kg)
 
As Jockey R. Maloney was ill, he was replaced as per the race day summary. Jockey R. Maloney was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to riding again.
 
Trainer C. Maher was fined $100 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of M. Du Plessis as the rider of SILVER WEDDING in Race 9.

Co-trainers C. & K. Geran were fined $200 pursuant to LR 37(7)(a) for failing to scratch CONNECTICUT by the prescribed time which was a dual acceptor in Races 2 and 7.
 

RACE 1:GREAT NORTHERN IPSWICH INCENTIVE SERIES - FINAL - CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1350 M

RED DEFCON – Slow to begin.

ORIENTE – Shifted out and away from HELLARIOUS at the start and bumped TRAFALGAR SQUARE. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

TRAFALGAR SQUARE – Hampered at the start.

MORE LOVE – Laid in near the 200m before being corrected by its rider.
 
ZOUSTROLOGY – Commenced to race keenly leaving the 600m. Held up approaching the home turn.

DAVIKAR - Held up approaching the home turn.
 
CHERRABAH – Over-raced in the early stages.           
 
HELLARIOUS – Shifted out on jumping away.  


RACE 2:GORDON'S GIN BUNDAMBA MILE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         1666 M

HARBOURMASTER - Bumped with DIANA'S AFFAIR shortly after jumping away. Raced wide. Tired over the concluding stages.

PISTON REBEL – Began moderately before mustering early speed. Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey T. Marshall reported that in his opinion, PISTON REBEL is better suited over further distances and when placed under pressure failed to let down as expected.Lost its off-hind plate.

DIANA'S AFFAIR – Trainer E. Fouchard was reprimanded pursuant to AR 106(2) for presenting DIANA'S AFFAIR to the mounting yard without pre-race earmuffs, which were part of its declared gear. Bumped with HARBOURMASTER shortly after jumping away. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, in particular settling in a leading position, Jockey D. Boche reported that as DIANA’S AFFAIR was stepping up in distance from 1350m to 1666m, he had intended to be more positive and after beginning well, settled in a leading position where he elected to allow the gelding to travel comfortably.

JUNE – Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D. Plessis reported that in his opinion, JUNE is better suited over further distances, although the gelding performed well last start at Doomben which he attributed to the rain affected track.
 
ADDITION (NZ) – Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.

RUBYDOO – When placed under pressure, was inclined to lay in, proving difficult for Apprentice C. Baker to ride out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.


RACE 3:RAY WHITE IPSWICH CLASS 6 HANDICAP           1350 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards reviewed the start, seeking comments from the Official Starter, D. Jones and Jockey T. Marshall (OCEAN ALPS.) Stewards upon reviewing the official video footage, were satisfied that the start was effected by the Starter. OCEAN ALPS, which was fractious in the barriers reared, pressing the gates as the start was effected. Stewards were satisfied that OCEAN ALPS did not gain an advantage.

YES LULU – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle more forward. Ridden accordingly.

ROBRICK – Stood flat footed as the start was effected. Trainer G. Doughty was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again.

DAGGERS – Bumped with QUOTHQUAN approaching the 100m.

QUOTHQUAN – Bumped approaching the 100m.        
 
DEEP RESPECT – Raced wide.
 
SET TO SHINE – Shifted in on jumping away. Near the 1000m, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of PANTELONE, which shifted in. Raced wide.

BLUEPINOT – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Stewart reported that BLUEPINOT failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and proved disappointing.

OCEAN ALPS – Became fractious prior to the start being effected and got its head up over the front barrier partition on several occasions. Reared as the start was effected, contacted the front barrier partition and lost ground. Trainer P. Shailer was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Following the running of this event, the barriers were retested without issue.


RACE 4:CHANNEL SEVEN STAYERS QTIS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         2500 M

RATTLE AND HUM (IRE) – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
THE IRISH (IRE) – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Rodd reported that in his opinion, THE IRISH (IRE) is better suited over less distance than that of today’s event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Obliged to shift wider rounding the home turn in order to secure clear running.
 
CHILLAXING (IRE) – Rounding the home turn, was awkwardly placed at the heels of CAPTAIN MAVERICK (IRE), which shifted out. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

FARWEST – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
 
DEMARCAY (GB) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

DON STEFANO (NZ) - Began awkwardly, was bumped and lost ground. Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 1600m. Near the 200m, steadied from the heels of FARWEST, which shifted out. Jockey C. Graham, the rider of FARWEST was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
MALECON – Shifted out on jumping away. Held up for clear running from the 400m until the 150m.
 
TRUMP CARD (NZ) – Hampered at the start and bumped DON STEFANO (NZ).
 
ARTFUL GIRL - Raced wide for the majority.
 
KALKANLI - Raced wide for the majority. Momentarily raced in restricted room, whilst tiring near the 100m when TRUMP CARD (NZ) shifted out.

WHATJEUDOIN' - Over-raced in the early stages.       


RACE 5:POCO VINO BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP  1200 M

HIDDEN MELODY – Raced wide.

SHOT OF WHISKEY (NZ) – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
ZOUBABY – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D. Moor reported that being first up, in his opinion ZOUBABY would derive benefit from today’s event.
 
SURPRISE HONEY – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Held up rounding the home until approaching the 100m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey C. Graham reported that after being held up in the home straight, SURPRISE HONEY failed to quicken over the concluding stages and proved disappointing.
 
ZAMBEZI KHAN (NZ) – Inconvenienced on jumping away and lost ground.
 
BALANCE THE BOOKS – Hampered on jumping away. Raced wide.

RACE 6:SCHWEPPES T L COONEY    1350 M

NAVY PILOT – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle more forward. Ridden accordingly. Bumped with CYBER CITY on jumping away. Over-raced in the middle stages.  In the early part of the home straight, was disappointed for a run to the inside of LOCKYER.
 
PLATINUM PANTHEON – Bumped approaching the winning post.
 
CALL DA VINCI– Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight and bumped with PLATINUM PANTHEON approaching the winning post.

HILLIER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 900m, whilst over-racing, improved onto heels when the pace of the race slackened and had to be steadied. Raced wide.

KOHLER KID – Raced keenly approaching the 1000m and had to be steadied off heels. Obliged to steady near the 900m and continued to over-race for some distance.

SPECIAL ARTIST – Began awkwardly and shifted in. 
 
LOCKYER – Raced wide.

SMEXY – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground. After being held up in the early part of the home straight, improved onto heels approaching the 200m and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
 
POWER REECE – Raced wide. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice E. Lang reported that POWER REECE proved difficult to settle prior to the start and may have been effected by today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
 
MISHANI MOET – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide.

CYBER CITY – Bumped with NAVY PILOT on jumping away.          
 
I'M NELSON – Raced wide. Carried wider rounding the home turn. Inconvenienced and awkwardly placed between MISHANI MOET and HILLIER whilst tiring. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.


RACE 7:TAB IPSWICH CUP        2150 M

MISS JOELENE – Shifted out on jumping away. Approaching the 1300m, was carried out after PRINCE LEVI improved onto heels and shifted out. Contuniued to race in a three wide position thereafter. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey C. Graham reported that MISS JOELENE proved extremely disappointing and, in her opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Schweida advised that consideration would now be placed into the future racing plans for MISS JOELENE and that he would report back on the condition of the mare in the days subsequent.
 
BELVEDERE BOYS – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Bayliss reported that he had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight which was detrimental to BELVEDERE BOYS finishing efforts.

TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) - Approaching the winning post on the first occasion was obliged to steady from the heels of SPEYCASTER (GB), which was carried in by ZOOLOGY (GB) which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice C. Baker the rider of ZOOLOGY (GB), was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding.
 
PRINCE LEVI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 1300m, improved onto heels, shifted out.

SPEYCASTER (GB) - Approaching the winning post on the first occasion was carried in by ZOOLOGY (GB).
 
KALUAKOI - Apprentice E. Lang was fined $200 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height.

THE DROVER – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted in the early stages, Jockey T. Marshall explained that after beginning well, THE DROVER raced keenly, and when it was evident that he would be trapped wide, he allowed his mount to stride forward and settle outside of the leader. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was advised that a veterinary certificate inclusive of endoscopic results would be required prior to THE DROVER racing again.
 
CAVALRY MAN – Raced wide.    
 
CONNECTICUT - Hampered on jumping away. Near the 1600m was obliged to steady when awkwardly placed between PRINCE LEVI and MISS JOLENE.
 


RACE 8:BARRIER REEF POOLS EYE LINER STAKES        1350 M

REGAL ZEUS - When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Rodd reported that  REGAL ZEUS dropped the bit after being crossed passing the 800m and from that point commenced to lay in and weaken.
 
CIFRADO – Held up rounding the home turn. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. Near the 150m, was obliged to check and lost its rightful running. Stewards inquired into this incident. After taking evidence from Jockey B. Thompson (BOOMTOWN BOSS), C. Graham (JOHN RAMBO), M. Harley (MELODY AGAIN) and B. Thornton (CIFRADO) and reviewing the official video footage, it was established that near the 150m, MELODY AGAIN, which was improving directly behind BOOMTOWN BOSS was obliged to shift out momentarily to avoid the heels of that runner, which stepped out before being  corrected by its rider. MELODY AGAIN, after shifting out, bumped with JOHN RAMBO, resulting in that runner shifting out despite the efforts of its rider, ultimately resulting in CIRFRADO becoming awkwardly placed to the outside of JOHN RAMBO and having to be checked. Stewards also noted that SHA OF GOMER, which was improving to the outside of CIRFRADO, stepped in slightly. Stewards in assessing this incident could not be comfortably satisfied that any rider could be found culpable and noted the incident.
 
BOSUSTOW – Hampered on jumping away.
 
ROCKRIBBED – Raced wide. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted today, in particular leading, Apprentice J. McMurray stated that from the wide barrier, he intended to settle in a position midfield with cover however, after racing keenly in the early stages and being trapped wide, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and settle in a position outside of the lead. He further added that on straightening, his mount commenced to weaken.   
 
MELODY AGAIN – Inconvenienced rounding the home turn when DANCE TO THE BOOM shifted out. Jockey J. Bayliss the rider of DANCE TO THE BOOM was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Improved onto the heels of ESJAY approaching the winning post and was unable to be fully tested.
 
BOOMTOWN BOSS - Raced wide. Near the 150m, shifted out momentarily before being corrected.            
 
METALART – Held up rounding the home turn until approaching the 150m.
 
SHA OF GOMER – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped BOSUSTOW. Obliged to steady from the heels of LA ROJA, which shifted in. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor the rider of LA ROJA was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

ESJAY - Raced wide.         
 
RESTONICA – Raced wide early.

SOOTHSAYER - Raced wide.       Laid in under pressure over the final 150m.
 
JOHN RAMBO – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. Bumped and shifted out near the 150m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

REDFORD– Shifted out on jumping away and bumped BOSUSTOW.

CASTILLIAN (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Leaving the 200m when weakening, raced in restricted room between JOHN RAMBO, which laid in slightly and MELODY AGAIN, which shifted out slightly.


RACE 9:FERTPRO GAI WATERHOUSE CLASSIC    1200 M

CHICA MOJITO (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid in in the early part of the home straight. When asked to comment in the performance, Jockey M. Rodd reported that after beginning awkwardly, he was obliged to settle at the rear of the field and in his opinion may appreciate racing over further distances.

CIGAR FLICK – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle more forward. Ridden accordingly. Held up rounding the home turn. Had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200m.

GIVE GIGGLES (NZ) – Laid in over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to its near hindleg.
 
COCO JAMBOO (IRE) – Slow to begin.Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.
 
 
GUMDROPS – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SILVER WEDDING. Over-raced in the early stages and had to be steadied after improving onto heels near the 1000m. Raced wide.
 
SPRING LEE - Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.

ZOUPERB - Hampered on jumping away.         
 
NAIFAH - Shifted in shortly after jumping away and bumped ZOUPERB.
 
MANOLO BLING – Over-raced in the middle stages. Obliged to alter course near the 250m in order to improve into clear running.

SILVER WEDDING – Connections advised a change of tactics – attempt to settle more forward. Ridden accordingly. Hampered on jumping away. Raced wide.
