GENERAL
Trainer B. Ahrens was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late rider declaration of apprentice Chelsea Baker on ZAMUNDA QUEEN in race 2.
D. Turner replaced C. Meehan as the rider of ZOUSLAYER in race 7, due to transport difficulties.

Race 1 - VINCE INSURANCE CLASS 1 PLATE 800 M
BETTERINDANUDE – Began very awkwardly with its head up and lost considerable ground. Passing the 600m steadied from the heels of SORT CHA MESS (App C. Lowe), which shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice C. Lowe was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
CHAYSE'N'SCOTTY – Began awkwardly with rider A. Butler contacting the gate with his left shoulder. Rider A. Butler reported some discomfort to his left shoulder but did not require any medical assistance.
SORT CHA MESS - Began awkwardly, bumped with DEEP KHARMA, became unbalanced and in doing so, badly unbalanced apprentice C. Lowe. Several strides after, App C. Lowe lost the use of her left iron resulting in the gelding shifting out abruptly, before she was able to regain the iron passing the 700m. Raced greenly when under pressure in the home, obliging App C. Lowe to stop riding and straighten the gelding on several occasions.
DEEP KHARMA - Bumped at the start.
LADY MILAN - Began awkwardly and shifted out.
Race 2 - BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M
APOLLO CREAM – Shortly after arriving on course lost both hind plates. After several unsuccessful attempts to re-plate the stallion, approval was given for APOLLO CREAM to race bare-footed behind. Slow to begin.
THE GRAND DUCHY – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
ZAMUNDA QUEEN - Apprentice C. Baker was reminded of her obligations regarding the use of the whip on horses when out of contention.
SCARLETT BLAZE - Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Raced greenly when under pressure in the straight.
MONEY ON MY MIND – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
THE FOUNDLING - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an abrasion in the offside nostril.
SWEET SEPTEMBER - Over-raced in the early and middle stages with its head up and near the 800m checked from heels.
GOLD STARS - Raced three-wide without cover throughout.
BLOODS A RUSHIN' - Raced three-wide with cover throughout.
Race 3 - TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD & FOUR-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1350 M
The start of this race was delayed approximately four (4) minutes when DESTINYS SUMMIT cast the near hind plate on route to the barriers and had it refitted. Subsequently, the gelding underwent a veterinary examination.
CHEVALLUM – Laid in when under pressure in the straight.
DESTINYS SUMMIT – Slow to begin.
MISHANI MOET - Reluctant to proceed to the mounting yard. Trainer D. Stanbridge was advised a warning would be placed on the mare. Began awkwardly and then bumped by FIRE BOMBER shortly after the start. Held up for a run from the 300m until passing the 100m, then held up again passing the 50m and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
THE TORQUE XPRESS - Raced keen in the middle stages.
HELLO DOLLY DIVA - Slow to begin.
HEART 'N' POWER - Held up for a run from passing the 400m until near the 200m.
Race 4 - FERTPRO RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 2150 M
The start of the race was delayed approximately two (2) minutes.
OLD FAITHFUL (NZ) – Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported the gelding hung out for the majority of the event.
BOW TIE AFFAIR - Rider A. Butler reported he was asked to go forward on the gelding, settling behind the leader. Commenced to give ground from the 600m and eased down from the 200m. Trainer P. Bobic confirmed the instructions, however; advised they were given by one of the owners. He was reminded of his obligations to notify Stewards of any proposed change of tactics that he is aware of. Further, he was notified BOW TIE AFFAIR would be required to Officially trial to Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again given the gelding’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.
HE IS THE KISS - Rider N. Heywood reported in his view, the gelding failed to run out the distance of today’s event.
I DROVE ALL NIGHT – Near the 500m eased from the heels of the weakening BOW TIE AFFAIR.
PENDING LIST – Rider B. Thornton reported the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action over the concluding stages and on return to the enclosure dipped near the crossing, so he elected to dismount. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore-leg. Trainer K. Jones was notified PENDING LIST would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
SEASONS OF MIST – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bowed its off fore-leg tendon and to be severely lame. Trainer R. Tyrell was notified the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. He advised the gelding would now be retired.
FLAMING GENESIS – Raced keen early.
PAPAL MISS - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to the frequency of race starts in a 30-day period. Approaching the 400m, checked from the heels of the weakening BOW TIE AFFAIR and shifted in. SEERESS, which was following, was hampered.
SEERESS – Due to transport issues, arrived very late on course and underwent a veterinary examination. Hampered near the 400m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from 350m before being shifted out passing the 100m.
SILVERTAIL - Late being presented in the enclosure as the mare was presented to race in visors and not the declared blinkers. Trainer L. Wanless was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(2) for presenting a horse to race with the incorrect gear. Slow to muster early speed.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Good 4 at 2:44pm.
Race 5 - GIBSON ARCHITECTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP 1666 M
SCOUNDREL – Bumped at the start. Raced keen early, before going forward passing the 1400m to join the POUR BEEN in the lead near the 700m.
ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR - Began awkwardly, bumped with SCOUNDREL and then bumped with NO DOUBLE DIPPING. Rounding the home turn SCOUNDREL became badly unbalanced and shifted out after being bumped heavily by LOCH AWE (App C. Baker) which was attempting to shift out. This resulted in ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR being checked and carried out across the heels of BRINGME, which shifted in slightly. STORMSTOUT, which was following ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR clipped the heels of the runner and blundered. After considering all the circumstances App C. Baker was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 50m and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
MAPLE DOOR - Slow to begin.
POUR BENN (NZ) - When asked about his tactics, rider B. Lerena reported after beginning well and to avoid being trapped wide, he elected to push forward and take the lead.
TULONG - Change of tactics; to settle further forward from the inside barrier. Settled behind the leaders. Rider M. Hellyer was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race, where possible.
LOCH AWE – Approaching the winning post checked when tightened onto the hindquarters of POUR BENN, which shifted out slightly and BRINGME(A. Keeley), which shifted ground when laying in, despite the efforts of rider A. Keeley to straighten the gelding. In the circumstances Stewards were satisfied rider A. Keeley had shown sufficient effort to correct his mount in the situation and therefore no action was taken.
STORMSTOUT - Slow to begin. Held up for a run from the 500m until passing the 400m. Passing the 300m clipped heels and blundered.
BRINGME - In the straight laid in obliging rider A. Keeley to correct the gelding on several occasions.
NO DOUBLE DIPPING – Bumped at the start.
Race 6 - IPSWICH TRIBUNE TODAY BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1100 M
SURFERS ROYALE – Approaching the winning post steadied when awkwardly placed to the inside of LUMENS LENNY (A. Keeley), which shifted in before being corrected. In the circumstances, rider A. Keeley was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding and was notified he must stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion.
RUN LUCY RUN - Change of tactics, settle further back. Settled at the rear of the field. Trainer G. Thornton was reminded of his obligations to notify Stewards of any proposed change of tactics sooner than he did on this occasion.
CUTEPI - Slow to begin.
MISHANI EXTREME – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously with its head up early.
APOLLO TEN - Slow to begin.
LUMENS LENNY - Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging rider A. Keeley to stop and straighten on two occasions.
Race 7 - POCO VINO RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1350 M
BERTUS - Slow to begin.
THE TORQUE FACTOR - Passing the 50m was contacted by CANTANKEROUS (J. Bayliss), which laid out, and then continued to shift slightly under pressure. Rider J. Bayliss will be advised to make a greater effort to always keep his mounts straight.
CLUBHOUSE – Slow to begin. Near the 1100m was tightened by BERTUS, which was racing tight to the inside TOOLATEMATE, which was laying in and away from HIDDEN FUTURE, which was improving around the field. Held up for run from passing the 400m until passing the 300m.
CANTANKEROUS - Held up for clear running from passing the 400m until approaching the 200m.
HIDDEN FUTURE – Raced three-wide without cover for the majority. Rider J. Guthmann-Chester reported the mare was obliged to cover ground and may not have been suited by the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer J. Downes advised the mare would now be spelled.
ZOUSLAYER - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at the Sunshine Coast on August 2nd. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider D. Turner reported his mount hung out throughout.
