GENERAL
 
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
 
Race 3: Rider B. Lerena +0.5kg (55.5kg)  
Race 3: Rider A. Sewell +0.5kg (54.5kg)
 
 
Trainer B. Gentle was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for the raceday declaration of M. Hellyer on PRIVALOVA in Race 6.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 1 - VALE BRIAN CHRISTENSEN MAIDEN PLATE      800 M
 
 
VEGA FIVE – Began awkwardly and bumped at the start. Rider T. Marshall reported that the gelding was beaten for early speed but when placed under pressure from the 400m, responded to his riding and finished the race off well. He added that the gelding will appreciate racing over a further distance than today’s 800m.
 
CLIFFS HANGER – Apprentice M. Apel reported that her mount slipped behind when leaving the barriers.        
 
IT'S KAOS – Apprentice K. Johnston was reminded of her obligations when shifting ground in the home straight.

LUMINOUS GIRL – Shifted out on jumping and bumped VEGA FIVE. Held up from the 400m until passing the 200m and then again held up for clear running from approaching the 50m and was unable to be fully tested going to the line.  
 
SUNSET ADIOS – Began awkwardly.

LADY ESTELLE – Began awkwardly. Near the 200m had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
 


Race 2 - TAB MAIDEN PLATE 1666 M
 
 
BRASS BAND – Shifted out on jumping and bumped KING EMPEROR.

CHANCE DE LUNE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

I SAY I SAY – Shifted in on jumping and bumped STEPLIKA LION then bumped by THE HINDUSTAN, which had began awkwardly.
 
IRON BULL – Slow to begin then hampered when in restricted room.
 
KING EMPEROR – Bumped at the start.
 
STEPLIKA LION – Began awkwardly and then bumped and hampered between runners. Raced keen early and then over-raced in the middle stages. Raced three-wide without cover throughout.  

THE HINDUSTAN (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping and bumped I SAY I SAY.

AMAZARA – Lost near-fore plate.          
 
MISS FIRESTAR – Raced keen early.
 
O'REILLY'S SHOUT – Apprentice O. Kendal reported that the instructions were to settle in a handy position, however after beginning well and showing superior speed to the horses to her inside, she found the lead with little effort.        
 


Race 3 - FERTPRO BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 2150 M


KERKORIAN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider J. Bayliss was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(a) for using his whip forward of the horse’s shoulder.  

LAUNCHER – Rider K. Zechner reported that his mount raced flat in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer A. Chau advised it would now be the intention to send the gelding for a spell.    

MAKAMAE (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced on the 9th of August 2026. Inclined to lay out throughout. Rider B. Lerena’s whip was accidentally knocked out of his hand by rider J. Bayliss near the 200m.   
 


Race 4 - VALE BARRY 'KEITH' SELF BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 800 M
 

BEFORE ANYONE ELSE – Rider E. Lang was reminded of her obligations under AR132(6)(b) regarding using her whip above shoulder height. Rider E. Lang could offer no explanation for the mare’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

KING OF GERALDINE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

WAX ON WAX OFF – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running approaching the 100m until approaching the 50m.
 
SLEEPY JOE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 500m, had to be checked and became unbalanced after improving onto the heels of WAX ON WAX OFF (T. Brooker) which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider T. Brooker was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. Shortly after was steadied and got its head up when close to the heels of WAX ON WAX OFF. Rider L. Tilly reported that the gelding was agitated pre-race and when being loaded, which he felt was detrimental to the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery.         
 
I AM GONE – Fractious in the tie-ups and very difficult to saddle up. Trainer J. Wallace was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s pre-race behaviour.

Race 5 - SEVEN NEWS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1666 M
 
 
CAPO STRADA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 1300m, when racing keenly, was steadied from the heels of BETTER YET. Near the 700m, commenced a three-wide run.

HAZEY HILL – Rider R. Maloney reported that the gelding may not have appreciated todays track condition. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

LUCONI – Shifted out on jumping and bumped YUKANUMA.
 
YUKANUMA – Bumped at the start. Bumped and hampered near the 1300m when ENIDZEL (T. Brooker) shifted out abruptly. Shortly after, shifted back in bumping ENIDZEL unbalancing both YUKANUMA and ENIDZEL. Rider T.  Brooker was reminded of her obligations to straighten her mount when shifting ground. Raced three-wide without cover from the 800m.

ENIDZEL – Over-raced in the early stages and shifted wider near the 1300m, bumping and hampering YUKANUMA, becoming unbalanced. Raced three-wide from that point onwards, being allowed to stride forward and settling in the lead near the 800m.
 


Race 6 - GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
 
HOLY FLASH – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running from the entrance to the home straight. Passing the 200m, briefly raced in restricted room between SAVEUR, which shifted in marginally, and FIFTH FORCE.
 
DON'TCHA THINK – Began awkwardly. Commenced to over-race near the 1000m. Raced three-wide without cover from that point onwards.
 
HEROIC MISS – Shifted out shortly after jumping and hampered SHES A BELLE. Apprentice M. Goring reported the mare raced quite dour. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off-fore and a slow post-race recovery. The training partnership of A. & D. Simpson was advised the mare will need to obtain a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.         
 
FIFTH FORCE – Raced three-wide without cover throughout.          
 
KUNDABUNG (NZ) – Change of tactics – to race further back if circumstances permit. Settled behind the leaders. Held up for clear running from passing the 400m until passing the 200m. Rider R. Maloney confirmed the nature of the instructions provided to him which was to be slightly further back than its previous start, adding that his mount jumped well from the inside gate and as a result, settled further forward than intended.

ECHO HUNTER – Began awkwardly.
 
SAVEUR – Approaching the 1100m, had to be eased when close to the heels of HOLY FLASH which shifted in marginally. Rider E. Lang was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for using the whip above shoulder height on three occasions.    

SHES A BELLE – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up for clear running from passing the 400m until approaching the 200m.
 


Race 7 - TEMPUS TWO CLASS 1 PLATE 1200 M
 
 
CHIBA – Rounding the home turn, rider A. Thompson had to adjust his off-side stirrup when his foot became loose.

KINKI FISH – Rider reported that his moutn was inclined to hang out throughout.         

FORGOTTEN SPIRIT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery
 
TAM NA GHAR (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Rider B. Thompson reported his intentions were to settle in a handy position with cover, however after beginning on terms, elected to restrain his mount to find cover rather than potentially racing wider than necessary.

POWER HIT – Fractious in the barriers.
