Due to a predicted maximum temperature of above 35 degrees this race meeting was conducted within the provisions of the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat Level (1). Policy.
Race 1– GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE 1100 Metres
ROCK’N BUZZ (NZ) – Under provision of the non-tab meetings overweight directive and after gaining approval, Rider D. Ballard rode the gelding one and a half kilograms above the allocated weight. Began very awkwardly.
MATCHFOX – Stood flat footed as the start was effected losing considerable ground. Shifted out near the 200m to obtain clear running. Trainer J. Bawden was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.
JABAL TARIQ – Bumped with CATE RULES on jumping. Approaching the 800m the gelding became awkward in its stride. Jockey T. Hill advised that the gelding resented the kickback. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
CATE RULES - Bumped with JABAL TARIQ on jumping.
MARNUS (NZ) – Jockey R. Hancock reported that the gelding resented the kickback throughout. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
Race 2– MCKINLAY SHIRE COUNCIL CLASS B HANDICAP 1100 Metres
FAST CHIPS – Began awkwardly.
FANDRAL – Began awkwardly. Had to be restrained near the 700m when a runner to the inside commenced to hang out.
TOTAL DISDAIN (NZ) – Tightened between runners on jumping.
NINEONEONE - Approaching the 800m began racing very ungenerously. Despite the efforts of Jockey J. Babarovich the mare commenced to hang out badly which resulted in several runners being interfered with. SILENTUS had to be restrained off the heels of NINEONEONE which resulted in BELAR BLUE, OUR MARIE, FANDRAL and TOKAIMEIGETSU all having to be restrained. After taking evidence from all relevant parties and viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards could not be satisfied that any rider could be held responsible for the incident. Trainer K. Krogh was advised that NINEONEONE would be required to trial satisfactorily in the presence of a Steward prior to again being able to start in a race.
Race 3 – DAVID JONES MEMORIAL CLASS 3 PLATE 1200 Metres.
WALLACH – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Esser reported that the gelding was never comfortable in running and resented the kickback despite being taken wide.
SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN - Raced wide in the middle stages.
BACCHUR - Raced wide in the middle stages.
IGNITE THE MAGIC – Raced wide rounding home turn.
WARRAMBUNGLE - Raced wide rounding home turn.
FLOSSY TOP - Raced wide rounding home turn.
Race 4 –TANYA JOHNSON MEMORIAL JULIA CREEK OPEN HANDICAP 1350 Metres
KAPSET – Bumped with CHARLIE CAT on jumping.
CHARLIE CAT– Knuckled and bumped with KAPSET on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
TRY ‘N’ RUN A MUCK – Raced wide throughout.
MASKING – Raced wide in the middle stages.
COROGLEN – Apprentice R. Shred reported that the gelding had felt awkward throughout the race and had contacted the inside running rail several times near the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5 – COREY GILBY MEMORIAL QTIS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1350 Metres
CAPTAIN’S PICK – Began awkwardly.
MISS SIZZ – Bumped with TWO OF A KIND on jumping.
TWO OF A KIND - Bumped with MISS SIZZ on jumping.
EXPLOSIVE MISSILE – Buffeted between runners on jumping.
AMERICAN SUMMER – Raced wide for the majority.
KING SOLOMON - Raced wide for the majority.
ISA PRINCESS - Raced wide for the majority.
BRAVE JEWEL – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
NITRO CITY - Raced wide rounding the home turn.
