GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweight at today’s meeting:

Race 1: CHAMPION CONTRACTING MAIDEN PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1200 Metres
LA SUERTE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SALTCLAY– Stood flat footed when the start was affected and as a result lost ground. Jockey N Morton reported that SALTCLAY travelled well throughout the event but the amount of ground that was lost at the start proved detrimental to the mare’s chances. Trainer M Pitman was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of the mare.
Race 2: GRAHAM HILL MAUNSELL MEMORIAL QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1200 Metres
DIRTY MERCHANT – Slow to begin.

ARMSTRONG BAY – Slow to begin.
BOURBON LANE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
WAYFARER'S WAY – Lost the near hind shoe in running.
Race 3: SNOW MARY HALL MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
YEMEAN – Blundered on jumping resulting in Jockey R Faehr making contact with the offside barrier gate with his foot.
ARABIAN SOO – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. Jockey E Bell reported that ARABIAN SOO blundered at the start and became unbalanced for a short distance resulting in the mare losing ground, which in her opinion proved detrimental to the overall performance of the mare in today’s event.
CONSORTING ONE – Began awkwardly.
SIMPLY SMASHING – Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination at the request of Trainer M Pitman, which revealed no significant findings and the filly was subsequently passed suitable to start. Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Jockey N Morton reported that SIMPLY SMASHING began well and although the filly tailed the field, in her opinion SIMPLY SMASHING was not suited by the step up in class of today’s event and will perform better in races of her own class. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
Race 4: O'BRIEN'S GARAGE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
Correct weight was delayed allowing the rider of second placegetter FREDDIE EDDIE, Jockey R Faehr and Trainer D Rewald to view the photo finish. After viewing the photo and Trainer Rewald, Jockey Faehr and Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

BOSTON OF TUFFY – As Jockey N Morton was to be overweight and the were no other riders available at the meeting, Stewards permitted Jockey Morton to ride the gelding 0.5kg over the allotted weight. Jockey Morton was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3) in that she accepted a ride when overweight. Slow to begin. Trailed the field. Jockey Morton reported that after being slow to begin, BOSTON OF TUFFY resented the kickback from today’s racing surface and was reluctant to respond to her riding until shifting wider on the track to avoid the kickback.
