GENERAL
As A. Merrit was indisposed, N. Evans was substituted as the rider of Shot Of Happiness in Race 4.
Due to a misunderstanding W. Costin was shown as the rider of Lady’s Command in Race 8 when A. Collett was to ride that horse.
Jockey B. El-Issa was found guilty of a charge under AR175(q) of improper conduct following the running or Race 1 in that he used inappropriate language and made accusations towards steward James Williamson in the weighing room. B. El-Issa was fined $500.
Race 1: David Cohen & Jill Jones 2yo Maiden Plate – 800m
HEROIC LASS – Slow to begin. Inquiry re poor performance. Rider A. Collett agreed the performance was disappointing and stated she believed the filly would appreciate a firmer track.
CRAIGLEA SWIFT – Slow to begin.
FLYING EMPIRE – Bumped shortly after the start.
CLOUT – Hung out rounding the home turn.
LADY ATHENA – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. Raced wide throughout.
Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Slow 7.
Race 2: Arthur Gray Class 1 H’cap – 800m
SQUEEMI – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
HENNY’S HOPE – Slow to begin.
THIS TIME LORD – Shifted out near the 700m and made heavy contact with another runner.
CAST OUT – Brushed the running rail and became unbalanced leaving the 300m.
MIDNIGHT BEAUTY – Held up for clear running in the straight until the 100m.
KARMA FORCE - Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
A DEAL OF HONOUR – Bumped heavily near the 700m. Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Butler McDermott Lawyers Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1060m
ARAWAK – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with another runner. Became awkward at the 200m.
DWAN – Slow to begin and bumped heavily at the start. Steadied from heels of a tiring runner near the 200m.
GOING GOING GONE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
BAM’S BOY – Raced wide without cover.
ZEEVA – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Jack Hughes Champion Kilcoy Old Timer Maiden Plate – 1200m
VERSACE MISS – Slow to begin.
PROMISES – Blundered on jumping away.
ZANY LASS – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
WATERBELLS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn, making contact with another runner. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
SHOT OF HAPPINESS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
PINTERRA – Bumped rounding the home turn.
MORINGA’S TOOTSIE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race without cover. Inquiry into improved performance. Trainer S. Jones reported the filly had won a barrier trial in the lead up to today’s event on a rain effected track and he believed the improved performance could be attributed to the soft track conditions today.
Race 5: Carlton Mid Class 2 H’cap – 1200m
FAYEZ – Slow to begin. Checked near 1000m.
SWEET AND SAVAGE – Apprentice E. Ljung was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in near the 1000m she permitted her mount to shift in, taking Queens’s Legend in on to Fayez, which had to be checked and lost ground. E. Ljung was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 March, and to expire at midnight, 14 March. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Ljung’s poor recent race riding record.
MOUNT PERRY – Clipped heels and blundered near the 800m. At a subsequent inquiry stewards could not attribute blame for this incident to any one rider and did not take the matter any further.
Race 6: Ian & Di McCauley Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap - 1900m
BREWING – Connections advised that from barrier 1 and with the addition of blinkers today the horse will be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse subsequently settled in a position midfield.
UTMOST FAITH – Raced wide in the early stages. Steadied from heels at the 500m.
SUITS US – Made heavy contact with the running rail approaching the 1000m.
PATENT PENDING – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Kilcoy Exchange Hotel Ratings 0-62 H’cap - 1500m
PERISHA – Slow to begin. Bumped at the 1200m.
CEBILE – Overraced in the early stages. Bumped at the 1200m.
BALINESE BOY – Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
CONTRAVENTION – Made the turn at the 800m very awkwardly.
LADY’S COMMAND – Had to be steadied momentarily leaving the 400m.
COUNT ROMANO – Tightened for room briefly when weakening leaving the 400m.
WITHOUT GRIEF – Inquiry into improved performance. Trainer P. Jenkins explained it was only the horse’s second start for his stable and he was anticipating an improved performance as the gelding had been working well leading into today’s race.
