Race 1: Searles Garden Products QTIS 3yo Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1200m
SHOWASHADOW – Forced wider by another runner near the 800m.
MILLY MUNCHER – Hung out near the 800m.
CONSPICUOUS – After leading the event, tired over the final 300m, finishing in last position. Stewards questioned jockey J. Orman regarding the poor performance of the horse. Jockey Orman stated that he was instructed to assume the lead if possible and attempt to get the gelding to settle, however it overraced badly before tiring from the 500m. A post race veterinary examination determined that CONSPICUOUS was significantly dehydrated, which may have had an effect on its performance. Stewards advised trainer Mr B. Lockwood that today’s performance was unsatisfactory and directed the gelding to requalify in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
Race 2: Somerset Regional Council F&M Maiden H’cap – 1060m
STASH THE SILVER – Fractious when loading. Hung out noticeably approaching the final turn and had to be steadied from heels. Stewards questioned trainer B. Hudson regarding the horse’s manners after QRIC veterinarian Dr A. Murdoch was unable to obtain a pre-race blood sample. Mr Hudson stated that STASH THE SILVER does become quite agitated with this procedure and claimed that as it was having its second start today it had not previously been subjected to a pre-race swab. Mr Hudson gave an undertaking to attempt improve the manners of the mare, however stewards advised Mr Hudson that they would give consideration if any further action was warranted.
NANCY BIRD – Tightened between runners shortly after jumping away.
SHE’S FOR RANSOM – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout before tiring over the concluding stages.
Race 3: Kilcoy Pastoral Company Class 1 H’cap – 800m
IMA FARMBOY – Lashed out in the gates, sustaining lacerations to both hind legs, and acting on veterinary advice was declared a late scratching at 3.06 pm, with the following deductions applicable.

SILVER GUMS – Blundered as the gates were released.
ATOMIC MISSILE – Delayed the start when farrier attention was required. Slow to begin.
ANXPENSE – On being eased down broke down in its near fore fetlock. Acting on veterinary advice the gelding was euthanased on humane grounds.
Race 4: IDA Moffett & Dining Room Girls Class 2 Plate – 1900m
THE AROD – Slow to begin.
ISLAND SUNSET – Slow to begin.
ALCAZAR – Slow to begin.
COME BY CHANCE – Led the event and ran off approaching the 1200m. Hung out near the 600m. Overraced and refused to settle throughout the event.
TOBACCO ROAD – Disappointed for a run near the 600m.
Race 5: Butler McDermott Lawyers Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1500m
LEGS UNBARRED – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
OVER THE VENTURE – Hung out near the 600m. Shifted in approaching the final turn.
HIGHTOWER – Rider lost his whip rounding the final turn.
CRYING CHEETAH – Tightened for room and steadied on the home turn. Jockey Z. White reported that after jumping well, her mount overraced and refused to settle. Miss White added it was her intention to take cover on LEGS UNBARRED, however the gelding’s racing manners prevented her from doing that.
Race 6: Kilcoy Exchange Hotel Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1060m
GENERAL KINGSMAN – Slow to begin.
OVERGROWN – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the run to the finish.
MARANETTA – Inconvenienced near the 800m.
MAGIC STREET – Stewards inquired into an incident near the 800m where the gelding was severely checked and lost ground. It was established that LISA FASHIONISTA shifted ground marginally, bumping ALMAZAN, which tightened the racing room of MAGIC STREET, and contributed to the interference suffered. Stewards also noted that LAST ROUND, which was improving wider on the track, hung in despite the efforts of its rider, and also contributed to the interference. Stewards noted the incident.
MARANETTA – Approaching the home turn was tightened, severely checked and lost its position. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Hodge, rider of OVERGROWN, was charged and pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge under AR137(a), in that approaching the home turn her permitted his mount to shift ground outwards, placing MARANETTA in restricted ground, causing it to be severely checked. Mr Hodge’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, to commence midnight, 29 December, and to expire at midnight, 10 January, 2018.
